Elara's POV
I stared at Damon, my heart beating real quick. The silence was far longer than I thought, and I knew and understood something. Damon would follow the elders' suggestions.
My mind raced with multiple questions, will he actually reject me? He wouldn't, right? But, I was scared. I knew following the elders' suggestions was an obligation. An obligation he had to follow no matter what.
I stared blankly, tears made their way into my eyes, but I just held them there. I could not risk crying in front of the elders. I couldn't show my weakness, I couldn't show that I was weak. I needed to prove to them that I was far more powerful than they thought.
“ Mr. Wilson.” Damon called,
At that moment, my eyes snapped at Mr. Wilson himself. He just stared coldly at me, his face was expressionless. But then he spoke up,
“ Moira,” he called, his voice low.
“ Yes, my lord.” She answered bowing curtly.
“ I don't think you have the right to take on any decisions here.” He said to her,
“ I don't accept this suggestion and that's final,” Damon said beside him.
I could feel the heat radiating from him. A spark of rage ignited inside of me, and I felt it. I felt him, he was angry. Mad.
I turned to look at him just to find out he was staring down into my soul. He felt it, he felt whatever distrust I had felt through the bond.
And for once, I knew I had made a mistake. A big one, I had touched him in the very spot that hurt him the most. I had proved that I had no trust in him. Trust was a very big deal for me.
He wanted to stand up, but he just sat there not knowing what to say nor do…
The silence in the room had become slightly unbearable, but as I was about to speak Wilson beat me to it.
“ And the last I remembered, you were not supposed to dictate unwritten rules.” Wilson paused, “ and there were no rules against chosen mates.” He added.
I stared quietly, I felt a sharp pain in my heart, and along with that, a wide smirk appeared across my lips. Finally, Moira was kicked back to her place.
“ Mr. Wilson,” I said , my voice low. “ I think it's best to ask for your opinion.” I said,
“ In my opinion, whatever is happening currently should be solved with wisdom,” he said.
“ Okay,” I said. “ I think the council should take matters into its hands then.” I added, “ it's practically the only choice.”
As soon as I said that, I felt my instinct yelled at me to take back my words but I kept quiet. I turned my head to look at Damon, only to find out he was vibrating on that chair
Almost immediately, I knew I had done the worst I could ever do today. The worst.
But, there was a darker reason why I had placed that important role into the hands of the council. They were the best choice, and the reason behind it weighed a lot.
‘ I am sorry, but it was the last option.’ I said to Damon through the mind link.
Sadly enough, I was expecting an answer but he didn't even answer me. He just shrugged me out of his mind and blocked the connection. And no matter how hard I tried, I could not get through the mind link.
“ I appreciate your wisdom, Luna.” Wilson said,
Before I could open my mouth to say another word, Benjamin beat me to it this time. He was seated right beside Moira
His blue eyes reflected the light from the chandelier as it beamed against the mirror behind me.
“ May I have a say, my Lord.” He said,
Wilson raised his chin staring directly into Benjamin's eyes. “ Go on,” he said.
“ I think Elder Moira here is right,” he said. “ Because Elarー” before he could finish the word a loud growl erupted through the room.
I turned my head to see Damon, half transformed. He placed his hands on the desk, his fangs protruded while his claws also elongated. I watched him, I could not help but smile.
My eyes snapped back at Benjamin, he had a smug look on his face, he flinched for a second. I could see it, I knew he was scared. I knew it.
“ E.. el.. ela… ela… Elara.” He stuttered finally managing to say my name while daring Damon.
“ She has no place in decision making, and she is the root cause of the pack's loss.” He said,
Wilson interrupted him quickly. “ If only you knew who she was…,” he paused all of a sudden before continuing. “ I said, this will be addressed by the council.” He said,
For one moment I felt like asking the question, who was I? He had always been mentioning this simple thing, but he would never open up.
“ Alpha Damon, we will take responsibility for finding a solution to this.” Wilson said,
“ Thanks council head,” Damon said, his voice low. “ The meeting is here by adjourned while we wait for the council decision.” He bellowed,
He stood up to his feet, and immediately turned to leave the room while Raine followed him closely.
My jaw dropped, stunned. He didn't even wait for me. This wasn't him. I stared blankly at the door.
I could feel Moira's sharp gaze as she headed out of the room. She had that snuggled face pinned on me.
As soon as they all left, I was left alone with the council head. He sat there, hands crossed above his chest.
“Embrace yourself, you will have an encounter.” He said,
“ Why not stop speaking in riddles and just make me understand what you're hinting at.” I snapped,
He just stared at me, he smiled. “ You will understand soon but it's not time.” And as if he was a vampire, he vanished, and the door? It was left open.
My jaw dropped, my mind filled with multiple questions. Questions I had no answers to, questions about my identity.
Who am I? That was the first question that came up. What is he talking about? Why is he talking in riddles? If I managed to get Kade to surrender will it not stop? Will I still be facing all this?
Everything was just connected, but I just didn't understand how to put them together. That was the problem, that was the thing I was trying to escape from.
I stood up, heading out of the room as I made my way straight to the palace's throne room.
When I stepped inside the throne room, I didn't find Damon there, it was empty. Immediately, I headed back to our room.
As soon as I entered the room, I saw him sitting right on the bed, staring blankly at the lamp light.
“ Dear, please calm down.” I whispered moving closer to him, “ the council will get her back.” I said,as I stretched forth my hands to touch him, he turned toward me, his eyes sparking with rage. He was locked inside, his eyes were pitch black.
“ What am I to you?” Be asked his voice low.
“ You are my mate, “ I said calmly.
Right inside, I could feel the heat. I could feel the pain he had felt. My heart had forgotten how to beat for some second. I stared into his eyes, hoping. But, no matter what, he would never change that thing in his head.
“ What am I to you?” He said, “ Answer me!” He yelled,
“ You are my Mate!” I said my voice out loud.
“ Is that really true?” He asked, his voice trembling.
What was happening? Why did he become so emotional? I hadn't done anything wrong, I had only jumped into conclusions.
“ Did you just think I was going to reject you?” he said.
Now I understand. I had understood the meaning of what he was going through, he had read my mind. He was telepathic so he could read my mind, but I couldn't help but ask myself how he was able to do it without my knowledge.
From the beginning, he had taught me how to know when he was evading my head all because of my safety, and I have practiced and become perfect.
How did he do that without my knowledge? I stared at him, I couldn't say anything. The silence stood there for long. No words. Just silence.
“ Why did you read my mind?” I asked, my voice cold.
“ So you have always thought I would reject you?” He asked
“ No, I just assumed it “ I said
“ So it's true, you've never had fate in our relationship.”he said
“ What?” I asked, “ You are taking this too far!” I half yelled.
“ So Kade was right all along,” he said.
“ What do you mean?” I asked, spreading my hands.
My heart was already pounding wildly in my chest. It was as i
f I was going to faint any moment soon.
Kade? What did Kade tell him?
