Harbinger: The Four Knights

First Lecture

The next day, the three of them came to the academy a little early since from the moment they woke up, the maids and the butlers have already prepared everything they will ever need for a day in the academy and they all have left to do is shower and eat. “That head merchant’s ability is scary. I did not think that it would be possible but for him to pull off something like that. Where the heck did he get those maids and butlers. They even exceed the abilities of the ones at home.” Marcus whispered to himself silently as they walk pass the gates.

               Everyone is looking at him with weird expressions after seeing the face that he is making. Some of the students around them recognizes them and talks about the results yesterday.

               CHATTER! CHATTER! CHATTER!

               “Well, I guess they would not forget what happened yesterday huh?” Abel muttered after noticing that some of the students, boy or girl are glancing at them constantly. “Let them be Abel, you know well how the evaluation works so it would be really convenient for us to be at the lower class but its still a waste though, the higher classes have more talented and strong people.” Amon said instantly regretting not being able to have a decent fight. “Don’t get discouraged Amon. If you want to fight someone there is a system for that. And that would be a official duel. There won’t be something fancy as points or whatever but everyone will recognize your abilities. Lower class or higher class doesn’t matter, result does.” Marcus said when all of the sudden the young lady from yesterday appeared in front of them right after they turned the corner.

               “Young master Marcus, it looks like we are in the same class. Do you want to go to the room together?” both Amon and Abel immediately turns to Marcus who is surprised. “I don’t think I can come with you, I will have to show this guys to their room after all.” Marcus tried to deny her offer but then Amon and Abel told him that they will be fine on their own and reminded him that they are not kids anymore. “Nah- we are fine on our own big brother. And it is a good time to get acquainted again with someone you know right?” Amon said as he pat his big brother’s back while Abel on the other hand gives him a weird smile. [I don’t know her though.] Marcus think to himself as he stares blankly at Abel’s figure.

               [This guy is definitely thinking of something- I just know it- even Amon is making the same face. Don’t come crying to me later if you get lost you pricks.] Marcus forcedly walks with the young lady as the two flashes a smile on their faces that Marcus can tell even without looking at the both of them. “Well, I guess we are on our own right now. So let’s head to the map first and look at where we are going.” Abel saw the map posted o the bulletin and found where they are and where they are going.

               The two memorized the map immediately and followed the right path and arrived at the room earlier than expected. “That was fast, I did not think that we are able to arrive without getting lost.” Amon said as he knocks on the door.

               KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!

               There are some distinct noises of people talking inside the room but no one opened the door so they opened it themselves but the moment the two entered, a pail full of water that was set by some of the students who were waiting anxiously for an unsuspecting victim fell but Amon was fast enough to catch it before the water drenched the both of them.

               “WOOPS! That was close.” Amon said with a smile as he puts the pail outside the room. Abel looks at the disappointed faces of the students when their fun was spoiled.  [Look at the look on their faces. Pitiful humans. Their evaluations are low and even their behaviors reflect on their evaluations.] Abel deliberately flashes them a smirk before they found a seat. “What do you think we will learn here Abel? I am excited to meet people my age hahah!” Amon states his delight and excitement about the idea of learning with other kids his age as Abel nods his head in agreement. “Yup- I can’t wait as well.”

               The guys who planted the pail on top of the door approached them both with such hostility that Abel and Amon could sense it a mile away. “Oi- who told you to catch that pail earlier? Can’t you see we are having fun?” a student taller than both Amon and Abel said with an arrogant tone. “Ah, I apologize. So that was your pail but I don’t understand. Where was the fun in that?” Amon asked with a smile on his face. “Oi- you sound funny. Which cave are you from? You both look like you are bumpkins. We set that pail to have fun and how dare you put it away, you should just let that pail fail and get drenched.”  The student said as he leans down to Amon to show the difference in high but Amon remained cool.

               “I did not think being in the lower class would be this interesting.” Amon said as he was about to ask him for a duel but Abel stops him. “Stop it young master, he is not clearly worth your time. Pebbles should just stay on the sides and stay as pebbles.” Abel said without any care for what they think and who they are. “Yeah- I guess you’re right. I can’t just let my habit get the better of me.” Amon said as he sits back down. The student got pissed and wanted to punch Amon in irritation after ignoring him but a student stops him from doing so. “I sure hope you know what that will result to. I don’t let injustice go unpunished you see.” A student with a badge on her shoulder said and it turns out to be the same person that the three of them met yesterday.

               “Tsk!” the student clicked his tongue and left with his friends after seeing the badge on her shoulder, disciplinary committee. “Hmmmm, I did not think you both are going to be in the lower class at all but I guess you have your reasons to hide your abilities.” Amber said as she enters the room as the two of them greets her. “Good day senior. Thank you for helping us just now. If you are looking for big brother then he is at his room right now.” Amon said as he bows his head. “There is no need to be courteous, I just happened to pass by and witness that so there is no need to thank me. It’s part of my responsibility after all.” She said as she waves her goodbye. “Well, then I will be on my way. Both of you take care, there are many students like that here so watch out.” She reminded. “Thank you senior.” Both Abel and Amon bow their heads.

               “Woah- they are even acquainted with Amber Sand? And the other calls the other a young master. Is he a son of a noble after all?” the other students immediately talked about what happened as the students who we got angry earlier are even more angry after seeing that Amon and Abel has some connection.

                A few moments later and the instructor arrived with a load of books that he brought and a few seconds later,  more students cone inside the room for the lecture. “Now that everyone has arrived I will not discuss the first part of my lecture but before that I will introduce myself first. I am Norman Price and I will be your homeroom instructor this year. I have with me the list of the names of all the students that should be in this class. I will call our your names and say present if your name is called.” The instructor ordered with a gentle tone.

               Everyone was present in his list so the instructor proceeded to start the first part of his lecture.

“Now, I know everyone is familiar what magic is. But do any one of you know the reason behind the strong manifestations of some magicians? Have you all wondered about it?” the instructor ask which made the entire room filled with noises as the other students murmur to each other about their experiences about what their instructor had said. But among those students, Amon and Abel were the only ones to be waiting for the next thing that he is going to say. [Interesting, they both don’t seem to be interested in my question nor had any experiences to make them wonder about it. Why don’t I ask one of them.] he thought to himself as he pointed at Amon.

               Amon was surprised that the instructor pointed at him, nervous that he might not be the one, he turned to look behind him. “He is clearly pointing at your young master.” Abel said that stops Amon from doing anything more embarrassing. Other students were chuckling at the hilarious moment that clearly shows that he is nervous. “What do you think is the reason behind it? Can you tell me your thoughts?”                        Amon clears his throat and faced the instructor as he states the reason why. “I think there are a lot of reasons why, but it all amounts to strength.” The students that were angry at them earlier laughed at his broad answer as the others followed them and laugh aside from Abel and the instructor. Some of the students noticed this and stopped laughing. “Class, I don’t think there is a reason for you to laugh at his answer it is all that matters after all just like he said and I think that is the sole reason as well but hearing what he said earlier, do you have other reasons?”

               “In my experience, our abilities in using magic depends on our mana pools, imagination and training. A mastery of a spell is far more beneficial and useful than having to know more spells that you can’t even master.” Amon responded as he sits back. [Heh? So he really has some experience about that sort of thing huh? My question is something that is really basic but complex but for those who do not understand the principle behind it and this kid is clearly knowledgeable about it.]  Norman thought to himself as he thanks Amon for his answer.

               “For those who did understand his answer, that is basically the reason why people are different than each other and those are the main reasons why. So if you want to improve your abilities, you need to stick to those things and improve them otherwise you are just wasting your time.” The instructor said as he flashed as smile. “Then how about we give it a demonstration yeah?”
