Chapter 7
The sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows over the ancient ruins. Mira took a deep breath, steadying herself as she stepped forward. The weight of the past and the uncertainty of the future pressed heavily on her shoulders, but she refused to waver.
Kai stood beside her, his expression unreadable. "Are you ready for this?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
She nodded. "I don't think I have a choice."
The entrance to the ruins loomed ahead, its worn stone walls covered in creeping vines. The air inside was thick with the scent of damp earth and something else—something ancient and powerful. As they stepped inside, their footsteps echoed against the cavernous walls, disturbing the stillness that had reigned for centuries.
A sudden gust of wind sent a shiver down Mira's spine. She turned to Kai, who had drawn his weapon, his eyes scanning the darkness. "Stay close," he murmured.
The deeper they went, the more oppressive the air became. The walls were covered in carvings depicting battles and rituals, their meanings lost to time. Then, without warning, the ground beneath them trembled.
Mira gasped, reaching for the nearest pillar as dust rained down from above. "What was that?"
Before Kai could answer, a low growl echoed through the chamber. They weren't alone.
A pair of glowing eyes appeared in the darkness, followed by another, and another. Shadows shifted, taking form. Creatures unlike anything Mira had ever seen began to emerge from the depths.
Kai tightened his grip on his weapon. "Looks like we woke something up."
Mira swallowed hard, her heart pounding. This was it. The real test had begun.
