Bad Day
Ivy. I ran as fast as my legs could carry me. I was a little scared and I didn't want to be caught but at the same time I was used to this. This was my second failed attempt today. What is happening? Though, some days were like this. There were days I met just smart people, picking things from them are usually difficult and they were days dipping my hands into people's pocket was so easy. I put my hood that had fallen while I was running back on to cover my face, and fixed my headphones on comfortably around my ears as my favorite song, Rocking Around The Road blasted loudly. The rocking of the kick drums in the beat timed my steps as I walked faster to leave that area when in the heat of the moment, I felt the buzz of my phone. It was Mom. Luckily, I was in a safe place, and could answer. "Mom?" I answered. "Ivy, where are you?" Mom asked in a worried voice. I stopped walking to answer her. "I stepped out of the house." I said, looking around to be sure no one was following me. "Yes I know. Where?" She pushed further. "Out... mom." "Ivy?..." "Mom is there something you'd like to say?" I said, a little harsh. I was already in a bad mood because I was out of cash and today has really been bad. "Clara came here a few minutes ago asking about you. Are you still friends with that girl? I don't like her. I thought I told you to stay away from her." She said, sounding a bit pissed. I sighed. My mom dislikes Clara, in fact she dislikes all my friends. She feels they're bad. "Mom, I'm an adult. I can choose my friends." I defended. "Not when they're a bad influence on you." She pointed out. "And I'm a good influence?" I asked, raising my voice a bit. I knew she wanted what was best for me, but Clara has been my friend since elementary school. "Ivy? This isn't you. This isn't the daughter I trained. Quit this friendship and get a decent life. Stop these bad habits. Those people you call your friends are not going to give you a good life or help you get one. You don't even have a job, Ivy. You're not even thinking of going back to school. Please..." "Was this why you called, Mom? To tell me how messed up my life is. To tell me how much of a disappointment I am to you." "Of course not. I just want you to change for good. You know I always want the best for you, for us. You're all I have Ivy." She said with a pleading voice. She was starting to get emotional as always. I rolled my eyes at that. I knew this night would be one of those night she would want to preach to me. I'd rather stay out tonight. "I won't be home tonight. Don't keep dinner waiting for me." And with that I ended the call, ignoring the little bit of guilt gnawing at the corner of my chest while sighing deeply. We've had this conversation countless times. I wasn't ready to go back to school. School is just a place where you get stressed out just to get a couple of numbers and letters called grades. Unlike what my mother thinks, I actually wanted a good life for myself, a much better life but I was too scared to try. So I lived my life one day at a time, letting all my dreams get drowned by my fears. I pushed my thoughts to the side as I nodded my head to the music. I was fine with my life this way. My phone buzz again and I groaned. Who could it be this time? It was Clara. "Clara?" I called. "Ivy? I've been looking for you. Will you come over tonight?" She said, going straight to the point. Clara doesn't beat around the bush. "Missing me already?" I asked jokingly. "You wish. There's a party tonight." She said again without wasting time. "Whose party?" "Dan's cousin. So, are you going to make it?" "Sure, I'll be there." "Great, see you later." She said and ended the call abruptly. Clara loved parties and she keeps me updated on the latest ones. She is really fun to be with and I can call her my best friend. Mom had tried everything she could to break us apart but our bond was strong. After walking for a few minutes, I spotted a huge store. Maybe I should try here. While I was still contemplating on whether to go in or not when I a flashy car stopped a little far away. A man on shades came out looking ravishing. I couldn't see his face properly but it was obvious he was rich. Before my brain could think things through, my legs were already moving towards the store. I walked past the doors, my eyes making a quick scan for my first target. I checked some things on the shelves with their prices but I quickly looked away as I wasn't interested in any of those. I turned from one side to the other. I saw lady but before I could take a step, her husband came out of the other end. "Today is really a bad day." I said to myself and groaned inwardly. This was a waste of my time, I should just leave. I was about to leave the store as I had given up on my search for a target when I saw him. His face was down as he was admiring the red teddy bear on the shelf. His head was down but I knew he was handsome as I could see the side of his straight jawline and thin lips. Something drew me to him, not to steal though. But the moment a sales representative walked up to him, I saw it as a golden opportunity to do what initially came here for. So I decided to try again for the third time today as I walked to Mr Handsome, hoping his pocket would be as handsome as he was.
