Introduction

Life sometimes changes in a single moment. One decision, one misunderstanding, or even one accident can turn a normal day into a story that lasts forever.

This book tells the story of a poor young boy whose life changed in the blink of an eye.

He was not a criminal. He was not looking for trouble. In fact, he was simply trying to do what many people would consider the right thing—stop a thief.

But life does not always reward good intentions.

One night, a young man named Akin crossed paths with a thief. What began as a simple act of courage quickly turned into a tragedy no one expected. In the middle of the struggle, something went terribly wrong. The situation spiraled out of control, and before anyone truly understood what had happened, the story had already taken a dark and painful turn.

Soon, the boy who tried to stop a crime was the one standing in court.

Confusion filled the courtroom. Fear clouded his thoughts. Words that were meant to explain the truth were misunderstood. A single answer—spoken under pressure—was interpreted in a way that changed everything.

In that moment, fate sealed his destiny.

This story is not just about guilt or innocence. It is about how quickly life can change. It is about justice, misunderstanding, human emotion, and the consequences that sometimes follow even the best intentions.

It is also a story about strength.

Strength to endure hardship.

Strength to survive in places where hope seems impossible.

Strength to grow, even behind prison walls.

As you turn the pages of this book, you will follow Akin’s journey—from the streets where everything began, to the courtroom where his fate was decided, and finally to the prison where he must learn to live with the consequences of a moment that changed his life forever.

But one question remains:

Was he truly guilty… or simply misunderstood?

Guilty Or Not ? A poor boy stops a thief, but a tragic accident leads to court, one misunderstood answer seals his fate forever
In a small ghetto in Shagamu, there lived an 18-year-old boy named Akin. Akin is uneducate because life had never really been kind to him. His father died when he was still very young, so it was just him and his mother trying to survive each day. His mother worked hard, but things were never easy. Some days they barely had enough to eat. Growing up in that kind of life made Akin understand struggle very early. But instead of joining the other boys who spent most of their time roaming the streets, Akin chose a different path. He was quiet, respectful, and always calm. People in the neighborhood liked him because he was humble and never caused trouble. More than anything, he believed strongly in God and always tried to do the right thing. There was also something special about Akin, he loved martial arts. No one really taught him properly at first. He mostly learned by watching videos on his phone and practicing by himself whenever he had time. Sometimes, an old man in the neighborhood who once knew martial arts would guide him and show him a few techniques. Little by little, Akin became really good. His movements were sharp, his focus strong, and his discipline impressed many people around him. Occasionally, he would gather some kids in the area and teach them simple self-defense moves for a small amount of money. It wasn’t much, but it helped him support his mother and put food on their table.Even though life was tough and the future was uncertain, Akin never allowed his situation to break his spirit.Somewhere deep in his heart, he still believed that one day, things would change for the better. One evening around 8 PM, Akin was walking home through the dimly lit streets of his neighborhood. The area was noisy like it always was, generators humming, To get to his street, Akin had to pass through a path between two old fences. It was a shortcut everyone in the area used.He held his phone in one hand, and tucked under his arm was his large 60,000 mAh power bank. The thing was big enough to look like a small cooler. It was very important to him. Because the neighborhood transformer had been damaged for weeks, electricity was scarce. So Akin made a little money by charging people’s phones with it. It wasn’t much, but it helped him support his mother. As he stepped into the path, Someone moved quickly beside him. Before he could even react, The thief has already snatched the power bank straight from his arm. For a second Akin froze. Then he pick up is courage “Hey! Stop!” he shouted. But the thief didn’t slow down. Without even thinking, Akin took off after him.His heart began pounding hard as he ran after the thief. Akin had trained in martial arts for years, and it showed. He ran faster, closing the distance between him and the thief.Soon he was close enough. In one quick instinctive move, Akin stretched his leg forward and swept the thief’s leg from behind, a move he had practiced many times during training. The thief stumbled. He tried to regain his balance, staggering forward awkwardly. But he couldn’t. He fell hard. What happened next took only a second… As the man fell, his head slammed into the edge of a concrete culvert. A sharp iron rod was sticking out from it. The rod went straight through his right eye and deep into his skull. Everything suddenly became quiet. The thief stopped moving immediately.Akin stood there, frozen. His whole body went cold. His hands started shaking.“Oh God…” he whispered to himself. “What have I done?” Slowly, almost unwillingly, he stepped closer. The man lay completely still on the ground, blood spreading around his head. There was no movement. No sound.Panic rushed through Akin.He quickly picked up his power bank, looking around nervously to see if anyone had witnessed what had just happened. Then, without another thought, he turned and ran home. This was witnessed by a woman called Madam Kofi, but she didn’t see the full scene. Madam Kofi quickly called the police and reported the situation. Less than 15 minutes, the police arrived at the spot. They found a lifeless body on the floor. They removed the iron from the skull and took the body to a nearby hospital. They started investigating immediately by asking people around the area, and they called the woman who made the report. Hello Ma, calling from Shagamu Police Area Command. I’m Inspector Kelvin. Ma, we got to the location and found the body. According to our questions, we found that you are the only witness to the crime. We will appreciate your cooperation. Madam Kofi froze. Fear hit her hard, and her first thought was to say no. “I can’t get involved in this,” she murmured, almost hanging up. She worried they might accuse her, lock her up, or drag her into something she had nothing to do with. The officer’s voice was calm. “Ma’am, nothing will happen to you. You’re just a witness. We need your honesty. Did you know the murder? Please help us. She was confused “I know him,” she replied. The next morning… Voices echoed outside the house. “Here is the house,” someone said. “His name is Akin.” Then came a loud knock on the door. BOOM. BOOM. BOOM. Akin’s heart started racing. He panicked and quickly hid under the bed. His mother hurried to the door. “Who is there? Wait, I’m coming!” She opened the door. Two police officers stood outside. “Good morning, Madam,” one officer said. “We are from the Area Command. Are you Akin’s mother?” “Yes, I am,” she replied. “Your son Akin has been alleged to be involved in a crime last night. We need him to follow us to the station for questioning.” Her eyes widened. “No… no… there must be a mistake. My son is a good boy.” But the officer interrupted her. “Madam, please allow us to do our job.” Akin slowly came out. The officers took him away. His mother cried loudly. “My son! My son!” The neighbors gathered outside, shocked and whispering among themselves. At the police station, Akin sat inside a questioning room. Across the table sat Officer Maya, a strict looking police officer. She stared at him. “So,” she said, “tell me what happened last night.” Akin explained everything honestly. His voice shaking as he spoke. I didn’t mean to hurt him,” Akin cried. But Officer Maya frowned. “You said you practice Taekwondo, right?“Yes… but....” “So you are trained to fight,” she interrupted. Akin remained silent. Meanwhile, his mother was outside the DPO’s office, crying and begging. Trying to explain Akin’s innocence. But the DPO shook his head. “Madam, the case has already been forwarded to court.” Her heart sank. “Akin will appear in court on Monday.” He looked at her seriously. “You should find a Sound lawyer.” Her legs felt weak. Tears streamed down her face. “My son…” she cried helplessly (Stay tuned for the next episode.) The courtroom has spoken, but is the story truly over? One answer changed Akin’s life forever, but the question still remains in the hearts of everyone who witnessed that moment. Was justice truly served, or was a terrible mistake made? Will Akin spend years behind bars for something he never meant to do, or will the truth finally come to light and set him free? In the next episode, the courtroom drama continues as new voices rise, hidden truths begin to surface, and the fight for justice takes an unexpected turn. The question still stands: Is Akin truly guilty… or not guilty? Stay tuned.
