Chapter Two Things that he could never control   Third Person’s Point of View Leighton had finally arrived.  In the distance away from Blue is a man wearing a black trench coat to a humid and scorching hot place. He was unsure whether to feel bad or laugh at his Alpha, seeing that he was a clear reminder that he does not belong in this weather. It would not be a surprise that this man is from another country, one that is colder than where he was by the second. Despite the heat coursing through the land, his hair was still slicked into perfection. His face’s structure speaks nothing but a mixture of dominance and supremacy, a look that could make any bad girl kneel in her knees to serve him. The look that he could have into people would either make them intimidated into his stare of fall below his knees. There was no in-between. People kept whispering, eyeing the man as if he was candy. Blue had only watched in the distance, holding a sign to gather the man's attention. If it were in a normal situation, people would be cowering in his arrivals. Seeing humans see the man as a god was comedic.  They are simply interesting species in this realm.  “Excuse me,” one human approached him. Blue grinned, surprised at the courage of that small being that stands before the very man who is known to kill whoever breathes the wrong direction in his way.  Unbothered, Leighton passed through without a word.  Leighton Wright is the epitome of dominance, and there was no denying it. He did not build his empire at the young age of 14, only to be deemed as a soft and easy man. To all the wolves who are aware of his structure, he is known to be the most dangerous Alpha that had ever existed in the land. The man the well-known royal persecutor, killer of anyone who opposes the palace. He was the only man in his young age who had spooked a lot of powerful beings into his presence. Despite him only turning 20 a week ago, his very existence could scare men that might be in their 30s. Spotting the car that was meant for him, he had entered inside the damn car and only leaned on his seat with a frown. “This weather in this place is bloody hell. How do people live in this area and not die from the weather?” He muttered as soon as he could. Upon not having an answer, he had taken the chance to look at Blue, one of his warriors who had settled first in the area.  Blue chuckled, shaking his head in fascination. “I could not believe you are wearing such attire to this place, Alpha. No wonder you are feeling the heat. You are well aware that we would be visiting a hot country, but you are dressed in a fashion fitted for the pack.” “This is barely anything,” Leighton replied.   “Not in this place, Alpha.”  He could very much see that.  Despite his warrior being unknown to such a humid climate, he is wearing what seemed like cargo shorts and some cotton shirt to save him from sweating like bullets. It was not a surprise that the man was prepared for the trip as he was enjoying the feeling of basking in the sun.  His Alpha, on the other side, does not want to enjoy anything that surrounded him. Heat is a bad thing for him. It set his beast course into nothing but pure anger.  “Are you sure you did not take me to your hometown, Blue?” He bickered, insinuating that his warrior had dragged him into the pits of hell. Being familiar and had grown with the Alpha, the man only offered a teasing grin in his direction, ready to serve some spice. “I live in the pack for all my life, Alpha.” Leighton only sighed as he leaned his head on the seat, trying to calm his mind to all that will happen by this day in such bloody weather. Eyes looking to the wind that blows through the car, he was surprised that it could barely give him any cold breeze. He needed to visit more of the allies that he had to talk about private affairs. Then again, Leighton would not have done this if the Queen Mother did not require him to do such a tedious and unnecessary job. Even if he wanted to be back in his pack and hold his own people, it seemed like it was not allowed. Blue wondered the very words of the Queen Mother. “You would have found your mate in that way.” She said in nothing but a sweet manner, clearly telling him to settle down. Despite the man’s brute and rough ways, he has a tender spot for the woman. Graced by her kindness and wisdom, she had the power to appoint Leighton as the palace's main force.  If he were not fond of the Queen Mother, he would have rejected her offer. But the man did not say a single word of rejection.  Alpha Leighton had indulged the idea, but Blue was not sure that counting to see his mate is one of the things that Leighton wanted to anticipate to happen in this overseas adventure that the Queen Mother had let him venture. If ever, he would see this as a subject to see if people who had flocked over his care were useful to him or not. They know that Leighton does not really neglect to have his Luna soon, but he does have a fair share in ignoring those who would pose any interest in him. With the history that had happened in the past, it would only be her who could calm and possibly make their Alpha to the same man that he was before. But was he prepared for something like that? “What pack had the bad luck in grazing my presence?” Leighton asked if he has something unsettled business with such a pack in need of some preparations. “Evergreen pack,” Blue replied calmly.  Great. That bloody pack.     Leighton did an excellent job repressing his groan to hear such pain.  He did hear how the pack’s successor was a great baby due to some s**t that he did not meddle knowing, and he could not wait but to deal with that asshole. In his paper, the records state that the deal they have been giving to his pack was getting less and less as the day grew. By their records alone, they would hold no value to the pack after a month or so.  They are basically useless. Why is he wasting his time?  Due to the Alpha reaching his old age, Leighton was getting less of what he used to contribute. While werewolves are strong species, there are things that they are not capable of doing upon reaching a certain age. That being said, it was not ending well in his record. “Maybe don’t scare anyone today, Alpha,” Blue murmured, seeing the glint in his Alpha’s eyes even with just basking through the files. Leighton simply but frowned, still flipping his pages of the report that was prepared by the Alpha of that pack. “The man that I am supposed to face is an Alpha. Why would he be scared of me?” The man only crackled to the words, causing his Alpha to release a small glint in his eyes. Both were aware of the danger in his words, knowing the disasters that the man had made even with his fellow leaders. Alpha Leighton is someone who did not hesitate to punch an Alpha from before, and he also had a record that was close to cutting another leader with a knife due to his reports’ stupidity. It is not wise to oppose a man with his power.  Leighton Wright has a strong history of scaring anyone who faces him; even if that person is an Alpha himself, he simply does not give the second ounce of crap. If they pissed him off, he would react to what he thinks is right. When he needed to, Leighton would not hesitate to show his violence, and all were aware of how dangerous he could be. If he only got one thing that he does not approve of, everyone knows that he will not be afraid to inflict damage. Leighton stilled as he saw a page filled with women who are unmated in that pack. It was a normal thing to be attached to any folder since he does not have his mate in his arms. It also seemed mandatory for a pack to hand this piece of information to any unmated high officials who will visit their pack. While it was a normal thing, he does not understand if they were foolish to do something like this. Are they not aware of who they were sending this to? Seeing the flood number of women in that pack, his brows twitched. Gently closing his eyes, the man had done all the possible means to compose himself as his beast was gathering some low growls. From the second that his other side had realized that they would be traveling in a pack filled with such unmated she-wolves, it was not happy.  That was not a f*****g new thing in the system, and he had forgotten about this whenever he travels. All packs hold unmated females. Not a surprise there. He was just confused about why there ten pages of unmated females in this pack.  It seemed like the stories of how he still did not have a mate were again spiraling around. People would think that a pack that holds his mate still has some merit in his liking, unaware of the large scale danger that his mate would have if she had made the mistake of finding him. “Did you tell them that I do not like to have visitors around when I talk to Alphas, right?” Leighton questioned, skipping the number of females that were sent to him. For once, he was thankful that he had the patience not to rip the whole report in half. Blue grinned, knowing the main remark in his works. “Yes, Alpha. I have told them that there would be no unmated females around.” The truth was, that fact did slip from Blue, and he only held onto the fact that people were aware of who they were meeting.  “Any report from my beta?” He questioned. Blue kept his eyes on the road, but his ears listened well to his superior. “I am afraid not, Alpha. He still had not contacted me from the second you had left, saying that he can handle his affairs without you babysitting him every second.” A loud scoff came from the man, clearly amused by the balls of his beta.  It was true that he does worry a lot of times, but he always leaves things for his beta as he was aware that he could handle all the affairs that he could have missed.  Leighton closed the folder as he looked around the place filled with people who were basking the sun, enjoying the heat that it had provided them like it was not uncomfortable at all. It had always made him wonder about the beauty that the sun provides. His people enjoyed the cold weather, and his beast enjoys the comfort of the cold, slightly the basking heat that the sun could give. “I suggest you take that trench coat off as you head out the car, Alpha.” His warrior had whispered as he was busy driving him around. “The pack that we were visiting seemed to gather more heat than where we currently are. I doubt that you would prefer to be sweating at the end of the day. Sweat is the last thing you would want to make you uncomfortable.” In translation: Blue did not need another reason for him to flip the f**k out.  Leighton replied with a scowl but listened regardless. He took his time taking his trench coat off, carefully laying it to his side. From the second that Blue reached a red stop, he offered a glance to his Alpha. As if in a cue, he had burst out laughing upon seeing that Leighton was still wearing a vest and long sleeve top under that trenchcoat.  “I must have been very lenient to you, Blue.” He glared.  Unfazed, the man continued to laugh. “I believe I have told you to dress properly, Alpha.” To his words, he simply scoffed. Not that it was Leighton’s problem. As someone who was used to traveling in cold climates, he does not hold any clothes that will not protect him from the cold. The weather in the place where he was headed only came into his realization when he felt the humid air greeting him. Leighton is a busy man, and his beta had also missed reminding him of such a trivial thing.  “Should I stop to gather you some clothes, Alpha?” Blue questioned. The man frowned, pulling the sleeves until it reached his elbows. “No, do not mind. I don’t want to waste more time than we already did.” Not only that, but he had been feeling weird since they were drawing close to that forsaken pack. Maybe it was because he would be facing a much terrible heat as he headed out of the car… …but he was sure that it was something that was bugging him. And he was not sure how he would react to that. “You have been here for a day, Blue. How do you report on the place?” Leighton asked as he could not shake that uncertainty inside of him. “Something you would not want to visit again, Alpha.” He all but reported, knowing the intense heat that was served in this place. Leighton nodded at those words, clearly agreeing without a second thought. Despite him telling people that cold was something he was used to, it became his comfort level. A man like him, who is prepared for everything, has only one weakness. It is stepping out of his comfort zone. “I already know that from the second I step out the plane.” He replied. His beast stirred inside of him as they drew close, making him pissed at how the animal inside of him was acting. To how he was feeling, it was discomforting. Never had he felt anything like this. Not only was that a surprise, but he was sure that this was the first time he had felt like his beast was perceptive than before.  From the second they had entered the pack, he swore that his beast almost growled.  He only held his temple as he watched everyone in the pack gawking at the luxury car that was strolling into their way. Unlike the current pack, he was more successful. His pack is thriving and on its peak from others, close to hitting most who are the ruling pack in this land. The name that he holds already scares most people; his pack's intensity and strength are also emasculate for him to have such respect even from those who are supposed to be above him. The news of his arrival did not take long before Carson was aware that the Alpha that he needed to babysit was already inside the pack.  Fucking great. . . Mint was struggling with everything that was ordered for her. She was not sure how the man expected her to cook too many dishes for a single man, especially with little to no time. All this time, Mint did not think twice but to act though. Trained to listen to orders was like her specialty. It felt natural for her to listen to orders. She was a perfect version of an omega.  That being said, something was weird today.  Maybe it was simply because this was the first time Carson had asked for her help, so she was sure that some big shot was coming.  “You are cooking all of this food in the short time that I have given you.” Carson threatened, voice as thick as they could. “As soon as you’re done, have that placed in the counter, and you’re walking back down. Is that clear?” She nodded, almost immediately. “Ye… yes. I understand.” “Good.” He accepted, transfixed at her beauty. It took him a while to snap at it, back to showing her that he has control over the situation. “At least you are aware that your friends still live in this pack, and it is effortless to cast them off of here and into the place filled with rogues.” That is the only thing that he holds on her: he is dangling her friends’ life in her face like they are but a small chain. For she could efficiently run away from the place and let her wolf be in control, but the fact that he will have them killed by merely doing that is something that terrifies her.  Like a naïve child, her mind believed every threat came out of his mouth. As he had walked out of the kitchen and into the dining room, he had almost taken a step back as he looked at Alpha Leighton. He had been too focused on his own life to remember that this man is an embodiment of nothing but dominance and violence. Electric blue eyes followed him like hail and storm, making him nothing but shudder to his intensity even with the distance between them. “Do you want me to walk in your direction and bow to your feet?” Leighton questioned, snapping the man back into reality. Carson automatically walked to where the man was and bowed. Like what he was expecting for this child, this pack that will soon be in his demise. If this man would be the Alpha of this place, he should just burn it to the ground. Every Alpha in the world would step on him like spit. Leighton needed to rethink the bond that he has with this pack. While this weak ass man’s father is a good leader and bought him nothing but good supplies, he doubts that this man, who reeks another female other than the one he meets and claims as to the Luna, could ever do half of what he had done for him. “I am sure you are well aware of why I am here,” Leighton announced. The man looked at him as if he is a lost soul, already making him lose his patience for the man. Not only does his place not hold any air to cool him down, but this future Alpha's stupidity is also something that was pissing him the f**k off. To how he was able to greet him despite not being aware of what he needed to do is stupid. “We are here to talk about the reports of your pack. It is decreasing by the last two years, and we need to make sure that we are not profiting any loss by being an ally of your pack.” Blue had replied, mincing the anger that was boiling to his Alpha. Patience is not the man’s strongest suit. Carson could almost curse everyone out. Why would his father put him in such a position, knowing that he is unaware of the pack’s current situation? Let alone one that would allow him to report why he should be their ally. Alpha Leighton is their most influential backer. If he ever pulled his tab on them, a lot of packs would raid them like babies. Carson had become proud from the second they were allied to this pack, and a lot would want him to cower in their hands if the situation had flipped.  Crossing his arms, Leighton noticed it. “Are you unaware of what is going on?” “My father is still raising the pack on his own. All the business that I am involved in is training to be his successor,” Carson replied smoothly, wanting to seem at peace with them. “Then in translation... you are saying that you are nothing but a useless man who has a title.” He called, not really fond that he wasted the entire time he was basking in the heat to talk with such a piece of trash. As the clock continued to tick, so does his tolerance. “Then bloody call someone who will report data to me.” Carson all but bowed before glancing at his side. “Someone call my mate, and hurry.” “A woman?” Leighton almost sneered. Leaning both his elbows on the dining table, he looked at the man opposed to him dead in the eyes. “She knows more about what you do in the pack you’re supposed to lead?” Despite the venom in his words, Carson had quickly answered the question. “She is the future Luna of the pack, and she needs to know the pack as much as I do.” “But you know nothing. I am sure everyone knows more information than you.”  What walked towards the room was a mated woman who seemed to handle her position much as the man would, having him straight his back as she sat close to her mate. He frowned, seeing not mark on her neck or a scent that recognized their union. She was unmated, but they were mates? Now, that was interesting.  The woman seemed fierce instead of the Luna figure that most will succumb to. At least someone has the backbone in this pack. “Report.” He said, wanting to limit the conversation to a woman as much as he could. Louise responded, already aware of what he needed to know more than her mate ever could. “Unfortunately, our Alpha had been tricked by another Alpha in the south. A long deal was made without Alpha Waden realizing where he was being dragged into. Even with that information, he had been conned, and the pack had been robbed of a lot of trades. It was the reason he had been out of the pack, as he needed to make sure that the funding he had given would not seek loss and start starving in the pack.” Alpha Leighton frowned at these words.  He had heard a lot of Alpha's report to the King about someone scamming them into signing a treaty. Leighton received a copy of that bullshit of a paperwork, and he had scowled reading the whole thing. If a man had offered such good things, one ought to question why. He was not aware that this was happening in this area. Since he is the royal persecutor, he needed to know more about this.   After all, it will only take a couple of days before he is called back into the palace to handle these affairs. “And who is this pack that conned a pack that I am allied with?” “Crosswinds.” She replied softly. Leighton did not seem fazed, only disappointed in what he had heard. If that i***t tricked the old man, it seemed like his time of ruling a pack is already on the table. Could he be the reason for the other Alpha that had been conned? He was not sure about that.  Even still, the issue is different here.  Fathers usually let their 18-year-old handle the affairs of the pack. What is stopping this man from taking his throne? . . On the other side of the drywall, a woman is shaking strongly. Mint was not sure as to what she needed to do. She had been told to serve the food, but there are people outside, and the man who had been hiding her for two whole years is present on the other side. What if she gets whipped or worse—her friends suffered for her stupidity? “Where is the rest of the food?” She jumped upon hearing a sharp voice, enough to cut anyone in her path. An answer came from Carson, and before he can stand up and grab the food like he wanted to do from the start, he was stopped. He paused, not wanting the man or his mate to see Mint. “There are servers.” Louise frowned, confused at how the man is acting. She only gritted her teeth as she linked him carefully, wanting to give him some warnings about how his actions are being too uncivil. “It is disrespectful to get out of his face, especially when all the talk is getting through me. Do you want to offend him?” Leighton was also unsure why he had stopped the man. But it seemed fishy, and something from inside him wanted to see the scent that had been lingering on the closed door. While it had a lingering smell of the cuisine back at his home, it also holds something delicious. One that seemed quite foreign and unique. His wolf was nothing but alert, making him unsure if it was a threat or just some delicious dish. “Is there a problem here?” He challenged, patience turning thin. Not having enough place to speak, Carson let his Luna ushered the server out of the door. Not even aware of the surprise that will happen to her, the woman was forced to take the orders as normal. Hearing a call, she carefully holds onto the dish, trying her best not to quiver when she realized that she would be forced to serve people. Maybe someone could save her. As she had walked out of the door, she stilled. The surprise on her face did not waver as she looked at the man who was before her. Not only was she aware of who the man was and the story behind him, but it was also the wolf inside of her that was causing havoc in her mind. It was screaming words she always wanted to hear. Mate. It's mate!  But no… It can’t be right. Mint was too surprised that the food slipped out of her hands. Her body had carefully moved back as she felt some sharp shards pickling on her skin. Still, despite the pain that she was used to, she all could hear her wolf screaming that her mate was the man facing her.  Sitting before her was probably the cruelest and dangerous man in the whole realm of werewolves. He will not save her from this. No. This Alpha will make her suffer more than what Carson was already doing to her, and that did nothing but shook her into the core. All her dream of having her mate save her from all of this seemed like nothing but indeed just that.  A dream. In response to what he had discovered, Leighton chuckled. For once, he finally understood why his beast seemed relentless. Crossing his arms, there was a glimmer in his eyes that speaks immense danger. “Why keep an omega that could barely do her job? It is better if they all rot in the wild, fighting off rogues and serving as a sacrifce.” Why… is the world so cruel to her?
