The sun rose slowly in the early morning sky. The freshly watered flowers reached up to kiss the sun in its brilliance. Few passerby’s going on about their business, busily readying themselves and the town for the day. The faded buildings on the one main stretch of road watch as cars leave town one after the other heading to work. My distain could not be any larger.
“Good morning, you must be Ezra?” This pudgey short elderly man questioned as he approached me. grinning from ear to ear. His perk made my stomach lurch. “I am Mr. Ergon, I am your new principal. Most of the students call me E; feel free to call me either if you wish.” So perky. Aish! The only outstanding features about him were his eyes and voice. As deep and blue as the ocean and a voice that could calm a wildfire.
“Hello sir, yes my name is Ezra, I just moved here from North Dakota.” I say.
“Well welcome to Florida, the beautiful sunshine state that it is, I am proud to say that I am completely positive that you will enjoy and love it here.” I cringed at the thought. “The sun shines here nearly every day during the summer.” He clucked on.
“Great.” Goddess just strike me down. Another reason that I need to finish this assignment quickly. He went on talking about the classes and teachers showing me around school in a general sweep towards his office. He handed my information to the assistant giving her some instructions before waving me into his office.
“Any questions?” Lifting an eyebrow in my direction. I shake my head. “Good. So, what I am going to do is to set you up with a guide for later this afternoon, even though it is summer it si good to get an early grasp of things. Her name is Tori, she will be senior this year and I am sure she will be in one of your classes. She knows everyone in town and is an absolute sweetheart. I expect that she will treat you as if you were one of her closest friends.” He started fumbling through some files in his desk, he pulled out one that was rather thick shuffling through it finding what he needed. Picking up the phone he dialed a number there was a short pause before; “Tori? I am terribly sorry to bother on the first day of your vacation, but I have a new student who I would like you to meet. Yeah…Oh really…that would be fine…when? I was thinking later this afternoon maybe around three o’clock? Yeah, I think that would be wonderful. If he would like to tag along that is fine with me. The more the merrier. Great we will see you both then…Oh yes she is well…great and thank you again…we will speak again soon.” He hung up the phone flipped through some more papers and turned around to speak. “You will meet her in the town square around three o’clock, which gives you time to walk around and familiarize yourself with town and come up with any questions you could possibly have.” He escorted me out of the building and pointed me in the direction of the square and I waved as a departed for the square.
“Thank you, have a great day sir.” I walked in the direction that he had pointed in. This was going to be a cake walk, she is being delivered to me wrapped up all shinny with a little bonus gift. Well isn’t this just as splendid as can be.
