Chapter 1~Saying Goodbye! Mateo's POV Her lifeless eyes look up to the sky. A pool of blood running from the corner of her mouth. It was starting to dry. The smell of death was lingering in the air. Her skin that was once snow white had turned a deep light purple. Bruises were fresh on her neckline. Helplessness washes over me. Tears sting in my eyes. I did not protect her. I tried. I really had tried to. But my efforts were not enough. Click, click, click. Photos were being taken of her body as I took notes of finding her there dead. I should have known something was wrong when she did not answer my calls or my text. She always answered them. She always was there for me. But clearly I was not there for her as I should have been there for her. How could this have happened? To such a good cop? To my future life partner. I had wanted her to be my future. I had fallen in love with Ellis Benson. But I never got the chance to tell her how I felt. I never had the balls to. Because I was worried it would ruin our friendship. She was my partner on the force for over four years now. I knew when I met her Ellis had problems. Dangerous ones. She had a crazed exboyfriend. From her college days. She had noticed his issues in college. Back during high school Chad Hollands girlfriend hand drowned when they went on a canoe trip. No one was able to prove that Chad killed her off when she had planned on dumping him. I cough as the smell of death over powers me. Her cat Clio come over to me purring. Poor thing. I was going to take the cat home with me. I had to find clues so I could find that asshole and put him behind bars before he harmed any other woman. ♥☆♥ "Come on man let me by you a beer tonight" offers my friend Officer Zak Hartland. He places a hand on my shoulder as they prepare to take Ellis body out of there. I had a hard time watching her being taken away. I could have stopped him. "We all knew he was after her. There was more I could have done" I argue with Zak. "No man you did all you could do. We will catch that bastard and make him pay" Zak promises me. I nod. "I hope so" I say. "we have to sweep through this place once more. I have to find out this assholes next move" "Alright. But we went through everything" Zak points out as he places his hands on his hips. I notice something odd there in her apartment there. Her personal files were all out in the open. Normally she kept them over in her office. Ellis was pretty private about her life. She had a good life. She was adopted as a baby. She never knew her real family. She was looking them up. She never had any siblings. She longed for them. Recently she had found she had a twin sister out on New York. Her name was Morgan something. I notice Morgan's photo was out. And her address. Ellis never had gotten the courage to meet her sister. Though I told her time and time again that I was more than happy to go with her to meet her sibling. ♥☆♥ "What the f**k? Ellis had a twin sister?" whistles Zak as he looks over the papers I found. I notice the pad of paper next to things. The murder had written down her address. He was going after Morgan next. I hold the paper up to the light. I see the address had been written down. "Damn it!" I groan. "What? What?" asks Zak. He looked hella confused. "He is planning on going after Morgan next" I say as I tell Zak about the paper normally were in the office. And what we needed to do. "What are you going to do now?" wonders Zak. "I am going to New York" I answer him. I make the photographer take snap shots of this on the table to. "I have to protect Morgan" "Right, if you need me I can go with you" offers Zak. He was now my new partner because I had lost my beloved Ellis. "Thanks man. I might take you up on that offer" I sigh. "I think we are done here for now" "What about that beer?" asks Zak. "I will take a reign check on that" I say. "I need to get this cat home. And call her parents" I sigh. "Alright man. Call me when you need me" Zak offers as he pats me on the back. I get the cat carrier. Then get the kitty in there. I head out as we lock up. "Goodbye, Ellis, I will protect your sister" I vow as I look around the apartment one more time. ♥☆♥ I head on home. The cat meows all the way back. I drop the cat off at my place then I head to the store to get cat food. I get myself a tv dinner as well. When I get home the cat meows and follows me around wanting attention. "Everything will be alright" I tell the kitty. I pop the microwave dinner in then wait for my meal. The kitty was hungry to. I had messages on my phone. I sit down to listen to them. "It is Zak and I know you said no. But I know you are hurting right now. I am here for you. I will do anyting you want. Just let me know say. the word and I will head to New York right along with you" Zak tells me. "anytime man I am here for you. I called her parent for you. I know you have a lot going on" "Hi Mateo, I know you did the best for our Ellis. Do not blame yourself. You are the best. I want to take her cat home. Contact me when you can. I will plan a funeral for her. I will let you know the details when I can. I might have her creamted I am not sure, so much has happened to take in right now. Call me honey when you can" her mom says with tears in her voice. Tears water in my own eyes. Ellis was gone. I was never going to get the chance to tell her I loved her. I should have told her. I should have done many things differently but I did not. The microwave beeps letting me know my dinner was done. I get it out. I set my badge and gun on the table. I sit down to eat with no appetite in me at the moment. "Elllis I swear I will protect Morgan.
