I crawled down the passageway, as mom was killing the men who invaded our home, their screams echoing down to the passage.
Once I was far enough down, I pulled out the small flashlight I had in my pocket, turned it on, and continued to crawl one hundred and fifty yards down the passageway, past the barn, until I got to the end.
I sat there for a few minutes, listening for any footsteps outside of the entrance. Since it was quiet, I turned off my flashlight, put it in my pocket, and slowly sliding the board over, careful of not making any noise to alert anyone. I slowly lifted my head out of the entrance, looking around to make sure there was no one around.
“Where is she?” I heard one yell.
“Where is the girl?” I heard from another.
I heard a snap behind me, and I ducked down low enough to where no one would see me. Two hunters walked past, guns ready to shoot anyone who attacked them. After they were far away, I quietly crawled from the passage, making sure I pulled the board back over and hid it well enough that they couldn’t find it.
Before I took off to my truck, I waited in the bushes for a few minutes, making sure no one was coming. Once it was clear, I ran out of the bushes, to the closest tree, and hid there for a minute. I did that the entire way to my truck, running behind trees, hiding behind them, and making sure it was clear before I continued to my truck.
It took me a while, but I made it safely to my truck. Anyone did not discover it, and there was no one nearby. I quickly moved the brush and branches away from it, constantly looking over my shoulder to make sure no one was coming down the driveway. The ravens I had seen earlier took off from their evening roost in the trees, and flew down towards the house, cawing loudly. They were covering the noise of my truck.
Once I got my truck cleared off, I jumped in, started it, and put it into gear. I looked down the driveway, and no one didn’t hear me. I drove out of the driveway and onto the dark road, not turning on my headlights. Once I was a mile down the road, I switch on my headlights and drove as fast as I could from the destruction that was happening at my home.
I was hoping mom could escape, and make it safely to Mountain Moon, where we both would be safe there.
I pulled out my phone and made one last call before I had to throw out my phone. The phone rang, and Selina answered.
“Summer? Are you ok?” She asked.
“No, I’m not, Selina. They are back! They want both mom and me this time! I am running, so this will be my last phone call on this phone. When I get somewhere safe, I will get a message to both you and Jeff, letting the two of you know I am ok. I will miss you and thank you for being such a wonderful friend!” I explained to her.
“Summer, be careful, and I will miss you, too.” She said over the phone. “I will think about you, and I hope to see you again.”
I ended the call, rolled-down the window, and threw my phone out with tears rolling down my face. Some day soon, I will see my mom and friends, but right now, I need to get myself away from the danger.
I drove towards Port Angeles to get onto Highway 101, and I didn’t stop until I got to Blyn to get some gas, drinks, and snacks. Once I got back into the truck, I opened up the glove box, and there was a burner phone sitting in there. I pulled it out, and there was a note attached to it.
Use it only for emergencies.
I will see you soon.
Love-
Mom
I placed the note aside and turned the phone on. There were no messages from mom, so I knew she did not get away. She became their prisoner once again.
Every couple of hours, I would stop, make sure I wasn’t being followed, and made sure the truck had enough gas to make it to Mountain Moon. Fifteen hours later, I pulled up to the gates of Mountain Moon, and the guards came walking up to my truck. A big, burly guard came walking up to my window, not looking happy I am here.
“This is private property. Turn around!” The big one growled at me.
“I know that. This is the Mountain Moon. I am a friend of the pack.” I explained to them.
“I don’t care who you are, leave!” He ordered me.
“Call Luna Tovi Salyers, and her daughter, Emma!” I demanded. He looked at me, confused. “Tell them Summer Halloway is at the gates!”
He linked someone and talked to them for a few minutes before his eyes came back to normal.
“They will be down in a few minutes,” he told me. I sighed a breath of relief. “Park over there, please.” He pointed towards a parking area to the side.
I started my truck and pulled it up over to the side. After a few minutes, my truck door flew open and someone yanked me out of my truck.
“SUMMER! Is that really you?” I heard, and I looked up to see myself in the arms of Luna Tovi.
“It is, Luna,” I answered her. She was smiling from ear to ear, happy to see me.
“It has been a long time since the last time we all seen you.” Tovi said, pushing me back to inspecting me. “You have grown into a beautiful young lady. Is your mom here with you?”
“It has been a while,” I said, smiling at her. “But unfortunately, mom couldn’t come. They are back, Tovi. They have mom again.”
“Who is back, Summer?” She asked.
“The Hunters.”
