“Is everything going smoothly?” I ask, trying to keep the conversation relaxed.
“Smooth as silk,” Alex replies, looking rather pleased with himself. “I held a meeting, compensated employees who wanted to leave, and reorganized for those sticking around. Right now, our plan is—”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa,” I interrupt, waving a spoon in the air. “This isn’t a board meeting. Save the business chatter for later. We’re here to eat ice cream, not draft memos,” I jest, trying to lighten the mood.
