Kaila POV. “Lucas,” a hint of confusion evident in his eyes. “Yeah,” I chuckled sadly. The heart pain came rushing back. I thought I was done mourning Lucas. Alas, it was just a momentary distraction. What was I expecting? I thought I was over him. I guess what I thought I felt for Handsome scarred was nothing. He stared at me, unsure of what to say. I could hear the unasked questions in his heart. I believe he want to know what happened. Who is exactly is Lucas, and what did he do? “He was my mate,” “Was?” he asked eyes on me. I bent my head to avoid eye contact, wouldn’t want him to see my tears. “He rejected me,” I whimpered. I cast my mind to three days ago. •Three Days Ago• I was sitting on the vanity chair with Stella dressing my hair when I felt a shiver run down my spine, only one person has the ability to ignite this spark of electricity racing within me. His footsteps, music to my ears, only one werewolf is capable igniting this fire in me. Lucas, my handsome mate is within the palace. I hastily stood up from the vanity chair, a painful tug made me sit back on the chair. "Ouch," I screamed. "Welcome back," A sly smug on her lips "Stella, what was that for?" I asked still nursing the pain from my hair. "My apologies, your highness," She bowed like an innocent new maid. I rolled my eye at her. Using my expression to tell her, 'her acting didn't get the required result'. "Okay fine, I had spent the last couple of minutes trying to talk to you but you seem lost in a world unknown," she said, hands akimbo on her hip. "That's no excuse to pull my hair," I muttered. "I didn't pull your hair, missy. You stood up without warning," Her eyes daring me to lie. Ops, I really should not throw stones at a glass house. "So," She continued, "may I enquire what made her highness so on the edge that she forgot her little maid who is attending to her, though who is she to ask such question, your highness," She bowed deeply, though I know deep down she mocking me. Not in the mood for her silly games, especially when my beloved is within. "Lucas is here," I whispered trying to contain the excitement. "OMG, you need to dress your best," She squeal. She seems more excited than I am. She raced to the dressing room, I laughed happily. She came out with two beautiful dresses; sea-blue and purple. "This or this?" She asked raising the two dresses up. "You pick and be fast about it," I said. My heart far away. I really need to be on my way down. I hate to keep him waiting. After some back and forth, we settled on the sea-blue dress, a sapphire earrings and necklace to match. She styled my hair elegantly, adding my tiara on top, a blue jewel slippers. A light makeup to enhance my beauty. Satisfied with her work, she declared me ready to go. I half raced towards the stairs, butterflies in my stomach. From the stairs, I saw him standing erect, the posture of a warrior. I smiled as I watched him moved his feet in slow and steady manner. He must be in a hurry but decided to see me. Probably, drawn by my stares, his chiseled handsome face looked up, with a small nod enough to send me to the clouds, he acknowledge my presence. "Your highness," He muttered coming toward the stairs. "Lucas dear, I had told you to stop with the 'your highness' stuff," I said, a beautiful smile on my face as I hasten but in a graceful manner down the stairs. "After all we are mate," "Is everyone around?" He asked, extending a hand to me. A perfect gentlemen is he. "Yeah, I think so," I said. Dad should having a meeting or probably done, mom told me that she would be in her room in case I need her and Hannah has nowhere to go today. "Do have a seat, Lucas dear," I pointed to the cushion behind us. "I'm perfectly fine standing Kaila," the way he called my name sent a cold shivers down my spine. I loved the feel of my name on his lips. Mate or not, I had always loved Lucas. I was extremely glad when the moon goddess fined it fit to pair us together. "It would be my pleasure to have everyone present now," He requested. His deep baritone voice; music to my ears. "Now?" I asked unsure. "Yes please," OMG, he is about to propose. I would say yes within a heartbeat. "I think Lucas is about to propose," I mind linked Stella. "You've got to be kidding," She replied Thank the goddess for the power to communicate with each other through the mind. "I'm serious," I told her. "Accept my congratulations in advance," she screamed, I blocked her immediately. "Mom, Dad, Hannah, very urgent. Meet me in the first general parlor," I mind linked my parent and younger sister. "Are you okay?" "Are you alright?" "Sis, you good," Their various reply came at once. Well, I'm not okay, my heart is pumping faster than before. My legs feels like jelly and the joy in my heart is indescribable, but there's no way am saying that. "It's a code red, be fast, please," I whimpered. "Hope it worth my time," Dad said. "On my way," Mum replied. "I hope I don't regret this," Hannah mumbled. I smiled, code red in the family means something that had to do with life or death. Well, Lucas proposing is a life or death issue, right? Turning to face him, I whispered "They are on their way," I blushed. I'm quite certain my cheeks are red from blushing. "Are you alright," Dad voice echoed as he drew close. "Your highness," Lucas bowed his head as my Father and mother approached. "I'm fine Dad, Mom, thank you," I whispered "Hi Lucas," Hannah timid voice greeted. "Hi," He replied. Dad took his rightful position on the throne and Mother sat beside him. Every parlor in the house has a high chair specially designed for the Alpha. Hannah found herself a sit opposite where I stood. "To what do we owe this summon," Dad said, an aura of authority filled the room. "Dad, Lucas has something to say and he humbling requested I call the entire family," I blushed. "Then go ahead with it, boy, I don't have all day," Dad said. I sent him a side eye, begging him to chill a little. "Your highnesses, it's a great pleasure to have you all here," He started "the main purpose of this; is in regards to Princess Kaila, my mate," I heard my breath. The moment I've always been waiting for is here. "By all means, go ahead," Father gave a curt nod. "Kaila," He turned to face. 'Oh boy,' my breathed hitched. I nodded not trusting my voice at this moment. "I don't love you, and I never had. Not even spell of us being mate can change my mind right now," he said with no slight emotion. "You are kidding, right?" I asked my heart breaking into tiny pieces. He came close and held my hand. "No, so I Lucas Ambrose Junior reject you Princess Kaila Jacob as my mate," I took my hands back as if they burn. The tears that had gathered in my eyes gave way and rained down my cheek. An emptiness surge through me. I could hear the whimpers of my wolf as she wails in pain. At that instances, a banner was dropped from the top that reads; 'Congratulations on your Engagement'. I look up to see the entire palace watching. It dawn on me, 'I had just been rejected by my own mate in the presence of everyone. From my peripheral view, I saw him leave. "Are you okay?" I saw mom in front of me, her eyes filled with concern. Of course, I'm not okay. I'm in deep pains, just pure pains of the heart but whole body hurts, like a part of me is being separated forcefully. I shifted immediately shredding the beautiful dress Stella picked. Without looking back, I raced out of the palace.
