Chapter 10

Kaila POV "Stay here," he growled. I stared in shock as he advanced towards the door. Who the heck is there? His broad back, sculpted with muscles, flexed beneath the white robe. He reached for the handle. A low growl sounded from the door, indicating whoever it was, was right outside. He opened the door forcefully, his fingers morphing into sharp claws. The transformation sent shivers down my spine. As the door swung open, a gentle breeze filled the room with fresh air. The handsome, kind, mysterious stranger stood frozen, staring into nothingness. Is he staring at the intruder? His chiseled features seemed chiseled from granite, his eyes fixed intently on some unseen point. "Who is there?" I asked after a brief moment of silence, my voice barely above a whisper. "A wild boar," he replied, his voice laced with disappointment and - was that relief I sensed in his voice? His gaze shifted, meeting mine for an instant before drifting back to the darkness outside. I paused for a moment, processing what I had just heard. Did he just say a wild boar? It was an animal that made us so worked up. I did the unexpected; I burst into a feast of laughter. He glared at me, but I cared less as I kept laughing, even though my stomach hurt from the laughter. Holding my stomach with both hands, I kept laughing. So, a boar made us scared? Oh, goddess of the moon, I was super scared. Tears streamed down my face as I laughed uncontrollably. My sides ached, and my stomach hurt, but I couldn't stop. The handsome stranger's glare deepened, his eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "What's so amusing?" he asked. I tried to speak, but laughter choked my words. I pointed at him, then at the door, and finally, at myself. "I...I...thou...," I tried to speak but failed, as only laughter seemed to be the language I could speak. "Pull yourself together now," he ordered. Like magic, the laughter and giggles stopped. Just like when Father ordered us to do something, and we couldn't disobey. Hold on, is he an alpha? Nah, an alpha wouldn't leave his pack without an entourage. He closed the door with a bang, obviously annoyed at the interruption. I watched as he walked towards me, stopped by the table, pulled the chair out, and sat in front of me. He glanced at me, probably wondering if I was okay with him sitting beside me. He stood for approximately three seconds and sat down. I guessed he decided it was his place, after all; what choice did I have, even if he decided to drive me out? "I believe we were in the middle of a discussion," his voice dripped with authority. Am I certain he's not an alpha? I asked myself. Or maybe he's a Gamma or a Beta. "I believe so too," I whispered, stretching my legs on the bed. He nodded curtly. "You were on the verge of telling me what happened to you and why you're hurt and alone," I said. "We'll press the skip button on that one. I'm curious; who are you?" he asked, staring at me, boring holes into my soul. "Curiosity kills the cat," I chuckled nervously. "It also gives it a great shot at knowledge that can't be known if it wasn't curious, plus it saves the cat from trouble," he said. "So, who are you?" he repeated, his voice low and commanding. I hesitated. Should I reveal my true identity or hide it? "Well, you already know my name...what else do you want to know?" I asked quietly, my head bowed. "Kaila Jacobs," he nodded. "I got a hang of that one," he said, smiling slightly for the first time since I'd met him. "Why were you running in the forest?" he asked, taking advantage of the change in atmosphere. I decided to ask the one question that had been on my mind since I woke up. "May I have the pleasure of knowing your name?" I asked politely. He stared into space for a while. "Call me whatever comes to your mind, but I can't disclose my name," he said. I drew close to him, staring straight at his face. "Are you a spy?" I asked. "What?" He chuckled. He has a beautiful smile; he should smile more often. "You're not answering my question," I stated. "Call me whatever comes to your mind," he repeated. "Handsome Scarred," I whispered. He nodded without a word. "So, what happened to you?" "Lucas," I said, almost tearing up.
