ALPHA KAEL POV "We receive word that emissaries from Grayson Pack will be visiting Astro Pack in a few weeks’ time," I stare at the Ipad connected to my throne for identification of the person who just spoke; it reads Beta Davis the ambassador to Astro pack from Grayson Pack. I had since lost interest in the matters regarding the palace and the Pack. I stare at the empty seat beside me, the Luna seat; my Luna seat. Ever since, she left me. I willfully forgot the identity of people and as time went on; I seem not to recognize faces anymore. Hence, the need for the identification app created and installed by the technological team of Astro park. Their bio; picture, name, age, position and all concerning them clearly written for easy identification. No one knows the true reason for it except Ramon. "State the purpose of their visit?" Ramon, my trusted friend and Beta asked. "Just for entertainment and knowledge, the Alpha son has been ordered to go round each pack and learn what it means to be a leader to the people, the Alpha wants him to be fully equipped and be able to lead the great werewolves of Grayson Pack," He explained gently. I gave a little nod. Sounds reasonable, like a true Alpha, whose interests are his people. "Any arrangement made regarding their accommodations?" Ramon asked. "Not yet, we were hoping since he is an Alpha's son, he would stay in the palace," he responded. "That's oka..." Ramon started but I interrupted him. Is the palace now a refuse dump? "What effrontery; has the palace become a place where you dump people on visit without my permission," I growled angrily. I hadn't breathed a word since the meeting began two hours ago. Ramon had been the one anchoring it, speaking my heart to the elders. "My apologies, your highness," He bowed his head in reverence. "Get out," I said sternly. "Alpha," His eyes froze in surprise. "Out," I ordered. The Alpha's order is final and no one has the ability to ignore it. He turned and left. The other elders bent their heads in fear as silence filled the room. The silence stretched for a while, I let the fear of me sink into their heads. "Continue," I ordered. "Next," Ramon said gently and calmly. I scoffed. "Gamma Wilson, report on moonstone pack," Ramon said I gazed round the room, my eyes landed on the shortest man in the group. His gray hair and beards speaks of that of an ancient man who has spent thousands of years on earth. "Moonstone pack has been prospering well, your highness," He started, "the Alpha is grateful for the help you rendered to us last time. It has not only helped in building the economy, but also reassured the hearts of the people that indeed, they have an alpha who cares," He bowed his head. I don't remember rendering any help to any pack. I turned towards Ramon, he winked at me. I understood he had done something on my behalf. Many times, he runs the kingdom on my behalf with or without my knowledge. He knows how to cover up my lackadaisical attitude towards the pack, and gives the credit to me. I made a mental note to reward him for it. He’s more than just a best friend or a Beta. The best Beta any Alpha can hope for. "Any threats from the rogues," Ramon asked Gamma Wilson "the security measures the Alpha put in place for the pack has reduced the Rogue attack to 30 percent," He said. "30 Percent," Ramon exclaimed, forgetting to keep his emotions in check. "The security measures and provisions made were supposed to be enough to curtail the Rogue attack to a maximum of 10 percent, so why is it still at 30 percent, Gamma Wilson?" "Your highness," He bowed slightly, "I agreed with you, Beta Ramon but unfortunately, the Rogues still find a way into the pack, though the frequency of their visit is less than 20% compared to last season. And also over 40 Rogues have been caught and executed," Gamma Wilson explained. I nodded slightly bored of the discussion. I waved to Ramon to call in the next case. A new ambassador stepped out, Beta Rickard, Brimstone pack popped up on the screen. "Your highness, the Alpha of Brimstone pack sent his warmest regards," He started, his voice thick. One could tell he commands authority in his pack. "Today makes it a year since we signed the peace treaty between Astro pack and Brimstone pack," He paused to take a breath. "Our dear Alpha expresses his joy to you, Alpha Kael. The peace our pack has enjoyed has been as a result of the peace treaty signed between us, we are most grateful," I was slightly confused when a treaty was signed with the Brimstone pack. I turned to Ramon; I beckoned him to come closer with a nod, he climbed up to my throne. "Alpha," He bowed I almost rolled my eyes but I remembered it's a very important official meeting. "Beta, Closer," I ordered He drew closer, and bent so he could hear me. "Who the heck is this? And which pack is Brimstone," I whispered into his ears. "One of the packs you acquired last year," He said. "Oh okay," I said even though I can't recall. Ramon went back to his position. "Continue," he said to Beta Rickard. "Today, 9th May makes it a year we signed the contract," He started. Hold on, 9th May sounds familiar, a date I can never forget. The day my joy was cut-off and my misery began. The day I lost Luna Natalie. Tears clouded my eyes. I hate to be reminded of that day. "Our Alpha sent his gift…" Beta Rickard speech fades into thin air. "Get out," I said. "I'm sorry Alpha if I have..." "Get out!!!" I screamed He raced out. "All of you, out," I growl angrily My heart is panting, breaking into tiny pieces. They all raced out of the palace trembling. I fell on my knees beside the throne. My heart fell shattering into various tiny pieces. The quiet room did nothing to soothe it. The pain like a knife cut through me. I screamed holding my chest. Her face flashed through my mind, her alluring smile, her green eyes which held depth, her long curly blonde hair. Her round shaped face. The tears flowed freely from my eyes. Dropping the Alpha title aside, I let myself wallow in deep pain. I could remember her beautiful smile, the last beautiful smile I saw; when she helped me dress up for the battle. The very battle she died fighting. Her beautiful voice as she told me to come back in one piece. I had promised to come back to her. I fulfilled my promise but she broke hers and never came back to me. She never came back. I turned to Ramon "why didn't she listen?" I asked, tears still flowing down my cheeks. "I was everything to her, she just had to obey, just a little obedience. Is that too hard, is it?" I asked him again. He stared at me, one could almost touch the empathy that clouded his face. He was the one who advised me to let Luna Natalie stay back and not go to war with us. I embrace the advice since I was having a bad feeling ever since the training began. I had needed a push to be able to voice out my feelings, Ramon came forth when he told me a night before the battle that she shouldn't be allowed to go to war, a Luna is supposed to take care of the park if the Alpha is not around. Why hasn't she listened and done like any good Luna would? Why? Angrily, I threw the glass vase beside the throne across the wall, shattering it into pieces. "Your highness, Alpha," I heard Ramon called I ignored him, too consumed by hurt and anger. "I told her not to join us," I slammed my fist on the armrest of my throne, cracking the intricate carvings that adorned it. Blood gushed out from fist. My eyes burn as I think of my wife, my mate, my all. I'm the Alpha, the strongest and most powerful wolf in the pack, I was supposed to protect her, keep her safe. Yet, I failed. I knew how stubborn she was, I should have placed a ban on her or perhaps locked her up but I failed, I failed. "I failed," I voiced out as I stared at my healed fist. "You tried your best Kael, you did," I noticed him standing in front of me. From his posture, he has been standing there for a while. "I should have done better," I whispered, "You tried your best," He said "No," my roar echoed through the throne room. I couldn't hold back my rage anymore. I stood up, my eyes blazing with fury, and slammed my fists onto the throne again and again, cracking the stone beneath. The sound of shattering stone and wood filled the room as I unleash my wrath. The destruction did nothing to soothe the pain. Finally, I collapsed to the floor, surrounded by the ruins of my throne room. I buried my face in my palms and let out a defeated roar. "Kael," Mom's alarmed voice reached my ears as she raced towards me, her attendants trilling behind her. It dawned on me that the news had reached her. "Kael, baby," She came closer to me. "Are you okay?" Her eyes filled with so much pity, I knew her heart was bleeding. When Natalie died, She had tried her very best to console me, but I was inconsolable. "Ramon, you stood watching him do this?" She asked, pointing to the mess. "There was nothing I could do, Queen Alpha," he bowed in reverence. She signed deeply, her pain visible in her expression. "Leave us," She whispered to her attendants. They raced out fearfully like cats whose tails were set on fire. "Son, are you alright?" She asked again, this time climbing up to where I lay. I stared at her with my tears laden face, I couldn't find my voice "It's a year today," Ramon spoke on my behalf. "So baby, I'm so sorry," She bent and drew me into her bosom. I let myself enjoy the feel of my mother's love. I badly needed the embrace. We stayed in silence for a long time. I feel my hurt evaporating as I lay like a child in my mother's arms. "We would find another woman who would perfectly fit into Luna Natalie's shoes?" She said patting me. I raised my head and looked her in the eyes. How dare she suggest that another woman can take the place of Luna Natalie, my one and only love? "Never," I spat. "Son, the earlier you accept that she is gone, the better," She tried to draw me into her arms but I refused to be comforted. "Besides, the park needs a new Luna, it's high time," She whispered. The pain and anger came rushing like a mighty wind. I stood up like an angry lion, ready to pounce on his prey. Breathing heavily, I stared at my mother, The Queen Alpha. "Ramon, do be a dear and talk to him." She instructed. "I'm afraid, I would beg your pardon to seat this one out," He said. She stared at him, unable to decide what to do with him. "She is dead, Kael, Dead and gone, get that into your skull," She screamed. Her words made my already shattered heart break into tiny bits. Unable to control the rage burning inside of me, I shifted to my wolf form and raced out of the palace.
