Chapter 6Miriam sat in the passenger’s seat of Bradyn’s car, trying not to pay attention to the way that Bradyn sped down twisting country roads as she continued to turn towards Miriam in conversation.
“Don’t expect your cell phone to work out here,” Bradyn was saying. “But I know the ranch has a landline in the office. And most of the family have satellite phones, so if you really need to get in touch with me, you can.”
“I’m sure I’ll be fine,” Miriam replied. “Just focus on driving.”
“Driving, yes, driving… Jessica is a few minutes behind us. After I talk to both of your young men individually for a moment she’ll drive me home, and we’ll leave this car for you, in case something happens and you need to leave in a hurry. I don’t want you to feel trapped.”
“Although I appreciate that,”
