“ Who’s there?” I asked.
The growl came again, closer this time, sending a chill down my spine. I instinctively reached for my dagger, the cold steel offering some comfort in the moment.
But the growl wasn’t the only sound now.
I glanced around, trying to keep my composure. “Stay alert,” I commanded, my voice low but sharp. “Whatever this is, we’re not going to be caught off guard.”
