"Grandpa, please let me explain..." Cree's voice trembled with urgency as she desperately tried to reason with Duke.
But Duke abruptly hung up the phone. As the dial tone buzzed in her ear, Cree felt her heart sink lower and lower. Then she crouched down, gently caressing her daughter's cheek, and whispered softly in her ear, "Sasha, from now on, you have to listen to Daddy, okay...?"
However, Cree quickly noticed that something was off with her daughter. Sasha, who was normally lively and energetic, was far too quiet.
"Sasha…" Cree pulled Sasha into her arms, her voice filled with panic. "Don't scare Mommy like this!"
Seeing Cree growing more and more anxious, Liam Anthony sighed and revealed the truth. "The doctors said... Sasha suffered from severe trauma and has lost her mind…"
Tears streamed down Cree's face uncontrollably. "Sasha, it's all Mommy's fault. I'm so sorry! "
Liam walked over to Cree and tried to comfort her. "Don't worry; I've already contacted the best psychologists. Sasha will be alright soon. "
Hearing Liam's reassurance, Cree felt slightly relieved, but the look of sorrow on her face pained Liam deeply. Cree gently kissed her daughter and showed a hint of determination on her face, as if she had made a difficult decision. Although Cree wasn't sure how Liam had managed to rescue her from the Greene family, she knew exactly what kind of person Ike was.
Cree didn't believe Liam could have rescued her without some sort of conflict. What's more, he had just hit Snow to stand up for her. Then both families won't let him off easily. She stood up and looked at Liam, speaking with difficulty. "Liam, I'm going back home to try and buy you some time. Promise me, take good care of Sasha..."
Liam felt a sting in his nose as he forced a smile, tears threatening to spill over. How could he not understand what Cree was trying to do?
She was worried about retaliation from the Greene family, and he had just killed Snow's bodyguards. And that phone call was probably the Montgomery family calling to hold her accountable.
"All these years I wasn't there for you. You both suffered so much. From now on, as long as I'm here, no one will ever bully you again." Liam gently wiped away the tears from the corners of Cree's eyes and spoke softly, "Cree, come on, let's go home together."

Inside the Montgomery family's ancestral home, Duke's eyes were cold and sharp. Leaning on his cane, he sat on the sofa, scrutinizing the swollen, bruised face of Snow. Beside him, a richly dressed middle-aged woman was shedding tears, looking extremely distressed. The woman was Snow's mother, Priscilla Montgomery.
"Dad, you have to stand up for Snow!" Priscilla clung to Duke's arm, shaking it repeatedly. "She's my only daughter...Boo hoo hoo..."
Priscilla kept crying and gave Snow a discreet look. Snow understood immediately and dropped a bombshell. "Grandpa, that Liam is the bastard Cree has been hiding for seven years!"
Duke's calm demeanor cracked as he slowly realized the implication of her words. His fury erupted with a force that shook the room. "What did you say?!"
Snow and her mother exchanged smiles, their eyes gleaming with satisfaction. Years ago, Duke attempted to marry Cree off to the Reese family so that he could use Reese’s Star River Capital to strengthen the Montgomery family and expand their influence. But when Cree got pregnant out of wedlock, it shattered Duke's plan..
Duke had always harbored resentment over this. Not only had he stripped Cree of her position on the board of directors, but he had also removed her parents from the family's decision-making circle. It was only after Priscilla made great sacrifices that she grasped the opportunity to manage the Montgomery family business. But Priscilla knew that as long as Cree remained in the family, there was always the risk of her losing everything.
Seeing that they had successfully infuriated Duke, Priscilla's eyes shone even more brightly. She gently patted Duke's back, speaking in a sweet voice, "Dad, please calm down; we don't want you to get too worked up."
Duke glanced at Priscilla and snorted, his anger not yet subsided. Just then, Priscilla let out a coquettish giggle, "Snow is still here!" she said, giving Duke a playful push.
Snow's expression shifted slightly, but she wisely turned her back to the scene.
At that moment, the butler, Mason, walked in slowly. "Sir, Miss Cree has returned…"
Duke, irritated, pulled his hand away from where it had been roaming over Priscilla Moon's backside, his face filled with displeasure. "Tell her to get in here!"
The butler left to carry out the order. Soon after, the doors to the sitting room were pushed open from the outside. Several pairs of eyes turned simultaneously to the entrance. Liam walked in, holding Cree by the hand. He strode confidently through the main door of the sitting room, casting a cold glare at Snow, his eyes full of undisguised menace!
If Snow hadn't been Cree's cousin, she would never have walked out of that hospital alive!
"It's you!" Snow shot to her feet, her face contorted with resentment.
She had never suffered such humiliation in her life when Liam slapped her across the face at the hospital!
"So, you're Liam?" Priscilla sneered at Cree, her gaze shifting briefly to Liam. Her voice dripped with mockery. "Oh, I was wondering how you dared to defy your grandpa. Turns out you have a wild man backing you up!"
"If you don't want to die, you'd better watch your mouth," Liam said in a cold voice.
Priscilla looked stunned; she hadn't expected Liam to dare threaten her in front of everyone! Duke rose to his feet and took a few steps forward, casting a vicious glance at Liam before turning his gaze to Cree. Then he raised his hand and struck her.
Smack!
The sharp sound echoed through the room as Cree hung her head, neither resisting nor dodging, simply clinging tightly to Liam's hands. Liam looked at Cree helplessly before fixing Duke with a cold stare. "Mr. Montgomery, that was too much."
Hearing this, Cree's face went pale. 'Oh no!'
Cree hadn't expected Liam to say something so bold to threaten Priscilla, let alone confront her grandfather. Seven years ago, when her uncle passed away, Cree had vaguely sensed that there was some sort of forbidden relationship between her grandfather and her aunt. The affairs of recent years had only confirmed this suspicion.
Now, Liam's public threat to Priscilla was like touching Duke's most sensitive nerve. Seeing Duke teetering on the brink of fury, ready to strike at any moment, Cree didn't hesitate. She pulled away from Liam and pleaded tearfully with Duke, "Grandpa, please, I'm begging you, let Liam go! I'll apologize to you on his behalf!"
Watching Cree's submissive posture, Snow felt a surge of satisfaction. Before Duke could speak, Snow let out a vicious sneer. "If you're going to beg, you should be humble enough. Do you think shedding a few tears will solve everything? Don't forget what tomorrow is!"
"It's not impossible for me to spare this piece of trash," Duke said, his eyes gleaming as he stepped closer to Cree. "Tomorrow is my birthday, and it's also the day our family signs the contract with the Greene family. You know what you have to do!"
Cree bit her lip and nodded in silence. Seeing her comply without further resistance, Duke's lips curled into a satisfied smile. He commanded, "Get the best stylist and doll her up nicely to send her over to Master Greene!"
With that, Duke took Cree by the hand and began leading her upstairs.
But then... "What if we refuse?" Liam reached out and pulled Cree back into his arms.
Liam pointed at Snow and her mother. "I've heard that Ike has quite the taste for both mother and daughter pairs. Since you, Mr. Montgomery, are so fond of trading women for advancement, why not send these two to the Greene family? Wouldn't that be even more effective?"
"You're courting death!" Duke whirled around, glaring fiercely at Liam. "Drag this piece of trash out and chop him up to feed to the dogs!"
