One Story
Chapter one
I run from the vampires, using my magic to defend my family from them. We're surrounded by the evil, my magic enveloping us in a blue forcefield. My litte brother screams, clutching onto my mom. My dad does his best to send his power into me for added strength, but the monsters are too strong and his strength is faltering.
"Dad!" I shout, using all my energy into protecting us.
"It's alright, sweetheart. I'm okay!" He yells over the snarling of the vampires. They're constantly scratching and biting at the barrier, I can see in my dad's eyes the fear of his magic growing weaker. My dad isn't a witch, he has magic in his bones but he can't use it personally so he transfers it to me since I'm the only one who can use it outwardly.
The barrier grows weaker and I can feel his magic fading away.
"I love you, sweetheart." My dad says and I look at him with fear in my eyes.
"Dad? No!"
I look to my mom and little Ashton, my mom smiles warmly and I could almost forget the beasts tearing at the forcefield. She mouths 'I love you,' as my dad withdraws his magic from me. He gives my brother mercy and kills him before the monsters can, sending bolts of power into him and he goes limp in my mom's arms. One of the most peaceful ways to die because you feel no pain. For those with magic, the doctors do it for those dying already. My mom and dad close their eyes as the barrier collapses and I fall to the ground. Tears in my eyes as I watch my parents be torn apart by the vampires, their screams echoing in my head. Once my parents are dead, the monsters turn to me but once I turn to them they disintegrate instantly. I'm so distraught by my parents deaths that I don't see the red aura surrounding the destruction of the evil creatures.
I wake up drenched in sweat, hearing my family's screams echo in my head. I scan the dark room for creatures or anything lurking in the shadows, to my relief, I'm alone in the empty room. I calm myself down, trying to take deep breathes and remember it's only a dream. Not a dream, a memory, a terrible memory that will forever live in my mind.
I look out the window at the open doors of the terrace, leaving the windows open allows me to breathe in the warm fresh air and almost forget about the tragedy of my family. My heartbeat slows and I sigh of relief, knowing that I survived. But the monsters still roam.
It's dangerous to go out at night, a government curfew has been made for the humans... or in my case, human like, everyone hides in their homes, the doors locked, with crosses and holy water, desperately trying anything to keep the vampires away. They can't come out during the day otherwise they'll burn, but that doesn't stop the werewolves. The government hunted them down, most of them, to make sure humankind will be safe. Some still lurk but stories have been told that they either died or have learned to control themselves.
My dad was a secret service agent for the president, his magical skills allowed him to defend our leader. Rumors have been spread that the president was a witch and that's how he used my dad's power to defend himself and his family, no one knows to this day but the democracy of our nation is falling apart. The vampires and other creatures out there have had years of learning to control themselves.
The attack on my family has made me hate vampires, my magic is the only thing that protects me from them as well as the items placed in every household. All the houses for sale come with them because of the attack that happened years before the president came to power, the government's strength is faltering and the vampires know that. The monsters are getting stonger and the humans are getting weaker. Humans don't have super strength or razor sharp fangs that the vampires do. Witches and werewolves are the only ones who can protect the human population, werewolves were unpredictable and dangerous so they had to be eliminated.
We are born who we are, if you were born a werewolf you might as well kill yourself or be forced to hide your whole life. Humans would never trust someone who isn't them, even witches were forced into hiding over the years. Instead of using magic to allow our lives to be simpler, we have had to do things the old fashioned way. Buying a house and paying rent rather than using magic to convince the landlords to allow us to live for free.
Compulsion is where vampires and witches are similar, we both can persuade humans to do things we want. But unlike vampires, we held onto our humanity. When turned into a vampire, you lose your soul and turn to the darkness. Vampires don't care about anyone other than their thirst for blood, they could never know what family is like and they would never understand what it's like to be hunted. Humans tried their best to defend against the vampires, but their strength was too great so we sought out hiding from them. It was the only thing that could protect us, it's worked so far and the only thing we want in life is safety. Love and maybe a family too, but having a family or finding love is risky because the monsters could take it all away.
When vampires first came into the world, we were tricked into thinking they were human too. We never thought it was strange how cold they were or that they never aged, they never stayed in a place long enough for us to notice. It was when they started acting strange we began to notice, they'd stay inside all day and only come out at night. The law enforcers would notice the amount of deaths or missing reports that would come in an increasingly disturbing amount, my mom was a police officer and I would always ask what she does at work out of curiosity.
She wouldn't tell me about the missing kids or the strange cover ups that the vampires would try. I was a dangerously curious child and would overhear my parents talking in another room about how weird the police reports were sounding. Our parents pulled us out of school and my mom became our teacher, she left her work to protect us and that's when bad things started to happen. The vampires became more obvious, the werewolves were introducing themselves to society in a drastic way. Witches were being hunted, children of magic were tested in public schools and the only reason my family wasn't questioned is because of the president's protection. My dad was needed to protect him and we needed him to protect us. Life changed a lot and the monsters were to blame.
