Chapter 5

Emily’s POV: As Abigail and I climb out of the tunnels, my stomach growls very audibly making Abigail look back at me with a questioning look. “I haven’t eaten anything all day. I had pop tarts in my backpack but I never got around to eating them.” I say answering the question I could see forming in her head. “Well, don’t worry. We are in the middle of the woods so there are plenty of deer. Do you want me to go hunt one?” Abigail closes the hatch on the tunnels and makes sure that it is locked. “Deer? I’ve never had deer before. Do you just like, you know? Kill it?” “I hunt it. It’s my favorite food, as well as my husbands.” “Hunt it? Like. You just hunt it and then eat it? Raw?” I vomit a little in my mouth as the words come out. “Haha yes, raw. Usually my wolf eats it, but I know you don’t have your wolf yet. Has your wolf tried to talk with you?” I think back to the day about that random voice in my head. “I think so? I’m not sure. There’s been a weird voice in my head that isn’t mine. Could that be my wolf talking to me?” I felt excited knowing that my wolf was trying to reach out to me. “Could be. Could also just be someone talking to you through your brain. Like telepathically talking to you.” Abigail says as she pushes a branch out of her way. “Telepathically? You mean. That’s real?” I feel as though my head might explode as I slow my steps following her. I have to catch the branch she let go so it won’t hit me in the face. “Yes ma’am. It’s real. So are witches, vampires, mermaids, and sirens. Now, telepathy is a power some supernatural creatures get from the Gods and Goddesses. You know. Poseidon, Zeus, Hades. All of them? They all give us powers based on what they think we are worthy of. Such as your father. He was born an alpha. No one really knows why, he’s not the greatest of Alphas. But, your mother and I have been talking and believe that the reason he was born an Alpha is actually because you were meant to be born. You were meant to kill the oldest Vampire. She’s a very bad person and has sought the end of werewolves. Most of us stay in hiding, but a lot of our kind don’t stay too far out of the eyes of the Humans. Like your dad for example.” She rambles on, climbing over rocks and continues through the forest as if she knows the territory like it’s her land. “You keep mentioning my father as if I know who he is.” “That’s right. You don’t know who he is.” Abigail stops in her tracks and turns to me. She places her right hand on my shoulder and looks me in the eyes. It’s kind of as if she’s about to tell me something I’m not supposed to know. My heart is pounding hard in my chest and I’m pretty sure that Abigail can hear it. “Your father is John Wilson. The president of the United States.” My dad is the president of the United States. I feel like someone has shoved my heart down into my stomach and it dropped so fast. “The president?” I ask in disbelief. “Yes, also the alpha of the biggest pack in the U.S. and quite possibly, the world.” She continues walking as if she didn’t just deliver the most important news to me that I’ve ever heard. “Wait. So my mom told you? Why did she tell you?” “Well actually, I’m your Aunt. Well, sort of.” She shrugs her shoulders while looking back at me. She stops walking and sits on a nearby rock. “Your mom is actually my childhood best friend. You see. Your mom's pack was killed when she was 16. Your grandfather gave her her alpha title before he died. That and she was a born alpha as well. She now had the power of two alphas in her body, making her the most powerful Alpha in history. She’s from Kansas City, but came down here to Arkansas on the rare occasion because of my mom. Your moms mom and my mom were best friends going way back, so they would come to visit sometimes.” As she talks about my mother’s upbringing, she stops for a moment to sniff the air. She looks at me and puts her finger over her mouth to let me know to be quiet. She stands up and her eyes glow yellow. She steps back to me as if she’s protecting me. Suddenly, a wolf jumps out from bushes a few yards away. Abigail lunges at the wolf, knocking it sideways. The wolf quickly gets on its feet, as does Abigail. Only, to my surprise, she c***s her hip to the side and crosses her arms in front of her. “Really? Right now?” She says angrily at the wolf. Then, right before my eyes, the wolf lays down and slowly becomes a human. A naked man to be exact. I quickly avert my eyes from the man laying on the ground. “I smelled new blood. Wanted to check it out. Make sure that you are alright.” The man said. “Here, let me get the extra clothes from a spot.” Abigail says. After a few minutes she returned with clothes for the man. He thanked her and I could hear the clothes moving around. Hopefully onto his body. He walked up to me and I flinched. “Don’t worry, I’m dressed now.” The man says to me. “Emily, this is my husband and mate, Jacob. Honey, this is Anna’s daughter, Emily. Go easy on her, it’s her 18th birthday and she doesn’t know much about werewolves or anything for that matter. She’s just getting introduced to it all.” Abigail explains to the man. “Nice to meet you Emily. Sorry to scare you like that.” He extends his hand out to me to shake. “It’s alright, nothing like getting the heart pumping early in the day.” I replied, shaking his hand. We all turn and start walking towards the direction that Jacob came from. After about 20 minutes of walking, climbing, and pushing through tree branches, we reached a village looking place. There are several houses, some smaller than others, and cars on the dirt roads. “Welcome to our pack territory, Emily!” Jacob says walking backward with his arms held out indicating the village. “I know it’s not much, but we all look out for each other.” I look around to see others coming out of their houses. A few look at me strangely and others smile at me. One little girl hid behind her mom and shyly waved at me. “Let’s go inside our house. You can ask all the questions while I make some lunch.” Abigail says walking towards a house to the left. It’s about 1 in the afternoon by the time we are done with lunch and questions. So far, I have learned that I am a rare breed of wolf. I’m what’s known as a true alpha. Pure blood as most call them. Basically, I’m born from two alphas and I’m going to have great power. Mermaids walk amongst the humans, but mostly on the coasts because they need to be able to go to the sea. Sirens are out there, but most of them are dead. Hunted down by Vikings a long time ago. Same with dragons and sea monsters. Some still exist, but they hide in caves or in the darkest point of the ocean. I got the whole vampire werewolf backstory of the two sisters, and I have to say. It was wrong for Svetlana to want immortality and basically force it on her family. But the mood goddess basically forced their village into being cursed with two side of who they are. Abigail gave me a purple flower to keep in my pocket as well as told me to drink vervain tea once every few days. This prevents vampires from being able to manipulate me with their mind control. I kind of know the rundown of all the witch stuff as movies got that right. Vampires can create other vampires by making another person drink their blood, then die. Once they wake, they are basically vampires. They can survive off of any type of blood but they prefer humans. Legend has it, all I have to do to kill one's bite them. But anyone can kill a vampire with wooden stakes or vervain. I also learned that there is a target on me for my true alpha blood so it would be wise for me to not go around telling people. Vampires and witches are going to hunt me specifically for my blood. The taste or abilities it will bring are apparently very enticing to the supernatural world. There’s a group that everyone keeps referring to as the council. Basically, it’s a group of powerful vampires, witches, and werewolves. They are all about making everyone fear them so they will try to convince me to join them or they will kill me. The leader of the council is none other than the original vampire herself. Supposedly, she’s ruthless in her quest for power. The more she has under her, the more power she possesses. All of the previous true Alphas there have gone up against her and lost, badly. Abigail told me that the moon goddess has created true alphas to kill her sister. Ended all vampires out there. There was a lot to take in at lunch. Like yesterday my life was normal. Yeah, I was bullied but no one wanted me dead. Now, I’m being hunted for the taste of my blood and it’s abilities to make spells more powerful. This was a lot for me to take in. I’m not sure of how to take all of this, but I’m trying to level out my head with fresh air. “Emily!” I jump as Abigail screams my name from the other side of the porch on her house. “What? What is it?” I can hear her heart racing as she runs to me. “It’s your mother. She’s been taken and possibly injured.” She says grabbing my arm and pulling me the direction she came from. “Some of the others went to find her so they went to her spot. There was blood. Her blood. There were footprints everywhere. Quickly!” My mom's blood? Her spot? I ran on the heels of Abigail as we went towards a car and hopped in. Jacob doesn’t even wait for us to get our seat belts on, he goes as soon as the door closes. We go around corners so fast that I fall over in the back seat. Mom is going to be okay, I’ll wait until we get there and I’ll come out so we have a better chance of protecting her. I hope you’re right. Since we have the time, who are you? What is your name? Hi Emily. My name is Rylee. I’m your wolf. It’s nice to meet you. Anna’s POV: I wake up being hung from the ceiling by silver chains and hovering over wolfsbane plants. My body is so weak I can barely hold my head up. My arms are aching from being strung up like a piñata. Just as I wake up, I look to the left just as someone comes at me with a bat. They make solid contact with my side and I scream out in pain. I have to admit, they had great form. “About time you wake up Anna. I warned the young vampire and it seems he underestimated you.” Svetlana hisses at me. “Young vampire? Old man should know better than to kidnap an alpha.” I say just before being hit again. A little bit of blood comes up onto my lip. Svetlana walks creepily over to me. She grabs my face and pulls me closer to her. Her eyes get red and the lustful sound of firewood cracking comes from her as the veins in her face become prominent. Her eyes darted from my eyes down to my lips and took her finger across them, picking up some of the blood that was sitting there. She lets go of me and puts her finger in her mouth to suck the blood off. I swing back into my place over the wolfsbane plants. My bare foot touches one of them and my skin sizzles as pain surges through my body. Don’t show pain or weakness. They are looking for that. I’m well aware, Katherine. Now shut up and leave me alone. I can’t focus on you and this snake at the same time. I growl as I look up at Svetlana who is smiling big. “Let me down and fight me like a real woman!” I exclaim and pull myself up to be able to shake myself. I lift my feet up so they won’t hit the wolfsbane again and do my best to break the chains. No luck. I’m starting to get a little discouraged. Then all the vampires around me start to panic. I can hear their heartbeats rising as well as their panicked talk. Something is going on outside that is worrying everyone but Svetlana. She stands with a smirk on her face and she looks to the door as if she knows something, or someone, is going to be coming through it. She turns her body towards the door, then looks back at me. “She has arrived.”
