CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT
The film crew had erected two-thousand tiered seats with mannequins over in the fire training area of the aerodrome. Lorries had brought in large sections of scenery which were painted to represent higher rows of people and the overhanging roof of the Wimbledon Centre Court.
With the predicted good weather, film hands and sceneshifters went about dressing the mannequins and fixing them to seats. All the mannequins had been fitted with jumping jack flashes, so once alight they would hopefully move about and look realistic. It had been decided the flares should be thrown by the fire staff on duty and not the pilots overhead. This was to ensure combustion would take place at designated locations where the cameras were ideally placed.
