The Luna's Gift

Today is the day before my 18th birthday, my brother Levi just woke me up and told me to come down for breakfast, it's the last semester of school and a few weeks til I graduate, and tomorrow I can finally shift and hopefully find my mate. I've had a crush on Alec as far as I can remember, he's the Alpha's son and all the she wolves throw themselves at him. I've never made a move or told anyone besides my best friend Lana how I feel. Alec probably doesn't even know I exist, he's usually got someone on his arm at all times because they just want the be the next Luna. I roll my eyes at the thought of one of the many I've had to watch beg for his attention, although he never really gives them much thought he plays the part and let's them think he cares. Alec is 6'4" of solid muscle and beauty. He's got golden tanned skin that glistens under the sun and shaggy brown hair that always has that perfect messy look, and the bluest eyes I've ever seen. His smile is one of those crooked bad boy smiles that makes my knees weak. Alec is perfect, and he doesn't even know I exist. As far as I know at least. I shake off the thought and get ready for school and head down for breakfast, my mom and brother are in the kitchen and Levi is scoffing his food down like always. Levi is 16 so we're a year apart and really close for siblings. We have the same group of friends and surprisingly never fight. My dad is the Beta of our pack so Levi is next in line to take his place. Betas lead morning training so my dad is already gone for the day. "Levi, do you always have to eat like a pig?" He looks up at me and smiles "I mean we are technically part animal sis" I laugh and shrug my shoulders. He's not wrong. "Mom, I'm just going to grab a protein shake, Levi I'll be in the car when you get done and I'm leaving in 5mins so hurry up" "Okay sweetie, mom replies, don't forget you have to pick your dress up this evening for your party tomorrow" "I know I'm going right after school, Lana is coming with me and Levi is riding home with a friend" I head out to my car to wait on Levi, he finally comes out and we head to school and when we pull up Lana and our friends are waiting in the parking lot like always. Lana is gorgeous, she's 5'5" with long blonde hair and a perfect curvy body and big green eyes. She turned 18 a few months ago and hasn't found her mate yet. "Hey Lana, sorry slow poke was stuffing his face like always and I had to wait on him" She laughs "nothing out of the ordinary, so are you ready for tomorrow?!" "I mean I guess but I'm also nervous, being the betas daughter they expect me to find my mate tomorrow, I don't want to disappoint my father" "Ayla you worry too much, just go with the flow and things will be fine", she smiles. Lana is always so easy going. She's the best friend anyone could have and I'm lucky we have grown up together. I hope she finds her mate soon she deserves it more than anyone I know, myself included. We head into school, of course as soon as I walking into the building I see Alec and like always there's a girl hanging off his arm and she's laughing at everything he says. Fake, they're so fake. They want a title and don't even care he barely pays them attention. Most guys sleep around but Alec has never really been that guy. It makes me like him even more. "Oh my god Ayla look who's trying to impress Alec today, she's such a skank she slept with most of the wolves already, Lana says" Mindy is who she is referring to. And she's probably right. "yeah it's an adventure to see what girl tries next, you'd think they'd take a hint when he barely has a full conversation with them, but they're relentless" I say. We keep walking and head into class passing the scene and I roll my eyes. Skanks, I think to myself. I'd never say it out loud. As I walk by I can feel someone staring at me but I brush it off and go into my classroom.
