7. Distracted

Sometimes life plays such games with us that we can neither be happy or sad. I know my destiny will not go according to my will and I don't expect that either. But then why it has to create problems by introducing me to people who are meant to leave.  It's the seventh day that I have not received any notes from that stranger and that has made me go numb. I know I didn't know him but his notes would always add a spark to my morning. My friends have tried all ways of cheering me up and it does help a lot but deep inside me, I have a hollow and a heavy feeling. Unknowingly, I started expecting from him even when I don't know a thing about him.  Is it bad to expect something from someone?  It all started when I had forgotten to reply to his note as I was distracted with Aakash's declaration and my meeting with that flawless man. The next day when I didn't get his note, that time I realized my flaw but there was nothing I could do about it now. I was afraid that what if that guy thought that I have a bad opinion about him because of which he stopped sending me this notes but somewhere in my heart I knew that this guy isn't the one who would give up so easily. I even considered the option of leaving a note but then I thought that what would I ask him and what if he got a wrong idea about me then? That's why I chucked that option away.       But the thing that is troubling me is that why the hell am I bothered? I should be happy right that a stalker got off from my back then why the hell was I feeling so restless?  If I didn't know better its just that you are missing him - my inner goddess said seriously and I just couldn't help but let out a chuckle considering the circumstances that had and were going to take place in my life.  Sighing deeply, I finished my coffee and left to work. As I drove my way to work, unknowingly I was hoping that maybe today I will get the note from that man. You call me crazy or insane but I myself didn't know the reason for such expectation and edgy. Maybe it is because of the sense of mystery and conundrum that the stranger had created in my life.  I reached my office and hurried to my cabin just like the past 7 days in the hope of receiving the note.  My heart jumped in excitement as I saw a familiar box placed a the very corner of my table. I immediately charged towards it and opened the box hastily to find a chocolate and a note.  Good Morning, Where you used to be, there is a hole in the world, which I find myself constantly walking around in the daytime, and falling in at night. Very good morning to you. Why didn't you left me a note that day? I was waiting to read it. A gentle smile curved on my lips as I read the quote in the note. I t wasn't one of the usual motivating quotes. It was a sweet way of telling me that he missed me these days and I couldn't help but feel happy and cheerful as if I have won a lottery. Folding the note neatly, I carefully tugged it in my drawer. With that, I got on to my work with a light feeling in my chest.  ______________________________________________________________________________ " Hello " I greeted merrily as I grabbed a chair to sit down to have lunch with my friends.  " So the madam has finally received the note from the secret admirer " Aakash teased while both the girls knowingly smiled at me which I returned shyly.  I knew these people will come to know considering how locked up I was in my cabin for the last 7 days. " So what did he say, " Anvi asked softly and I narrated the contents of the letter. She and Aditi had a dreamy look on their faces by the end of the narration.  "Will you both change your express-" I started but the words died in my mouth as I saw Mr Ayaan Agrawal walking into the cafeteria with three gentlemen. He was looking sinfully handsome clad in a white shirt and grey pants paired with a charcoal blazer.  He was talking to one man and the other two just followed them as they walked through the cafeteria.  My eyes followed him till they grabbed the corner most table of the cafeteria.  They all sat and started placing their orders. He was clearly visible to me even though he had grabbed the corner table. After placing his order, his eyes scanned the whole cafeteria before it landed on me making me choke on my saliva. An amused smile came up to his face and he raised his eyes brows making my cheeks burn.   " Don't openly stare Meghna" Aakash said and I averted my eyes and looked down at my food. " I was not staring," I said in a small voice and again looked in his direction to find him talking but as if he sensed my gaze, he also turned to look at me making me look away. " You are venturing into dangerous waters Meghna " Anvi warned while the other two looked at me with a blank expression. " How can you say that? It's not that I like him or something. I was just looking randomly in the cafeteria when I saw him. That's it " I justified and Aakash narrowed his eyes at me. " Don't think that we don't know what is going through your mind Meghna and also Men are not fools. In the room full of people, again and again, you are gazing at him.  Do you think he won't understand all this? " Aakash asked me frostily; making me look down at my hands. Aise thodi na hota hai! -My inner goddess huffed.  " You don't believe me right? Then do one thing.  Look at him and you will see within 5 seconds he will look back at you " Aakash challenged and Anvi cleared her throat.  " That Won't be necessary I guess," She said softly as we all looked at her in confusion.  " He is already looking at you " She added and Aakash looked at me pointedly making me lower my eyes. " It's not what you all think. It's just that I was curious about him that's all.   " I said quietly and Aakash's look was as if he was praying for patience.  " Yes, Meghna.  This is curiosity which is normally termed as an attraction " Aditi said making me roll my eyes at her.  " Deny it as much as you want Meghna but all this will be clarified when you would have to face him as the project you have been given yesterday is handled by him.  So you will be directly in contact with him " Aakash said with frustration clearly visible in his demeanour. " We shall see.  " I said with confidence and got up from my chair to leave the cafeteria but not before throwing a glance in his direction.  I will not get into all this.  Whatever Aakash is saying is not at all true. I am not attracted to him or anybody to that matter and nor will I get attracted.  ________________________________________________________________________________ After few tedious hours of work , I wrapped up my things and took out a white paper to write a note to that stranger .  Well as you said that it's best that I don't know you. So when you know everything what do you expect me to say...  I knew I was being a little harsh on him but he deserved it for tormenting me for a week. With this thought, I neatly fold the note and keep it in the same box in which I received the previous note.
