Scarlett’s words rang in my head the rest of the night and all the next morning. I didn’t want to fall in love with Alvin. I couldn’t. He wasn’t worth my heart and the pain I’d feel when he inevitably moved on. I couldn’t go through that again. I wouldn’t. I got up early so I could finish everything before I headed over to Alvin’s for dinner. I wanted to bring him a cake, too. A little thank you for having me over.
