I knocked on Kyle’s door, waiting until he looked up at me. “Alvin wondered if you wanted to go out with him and some of the guys today.” Kyle shrugged. “I told him it was okay, but it’s up to you. If you’d rather not go, that’s your choice.” Kyle shrugged again and sat up, setting his iPad aside. “I’m tired.” I nodded. He was always tired when he was upset. Like holding in all the emotion wore him out. “He said they’re going surfing. I know you’ve always wanted to try.” Kyle’s lips tried to curl into a grin but ended up looking like a scowl. “He probably won’t show up.
