The Magic Rings
The rain poured down relentlessly, drumming against the pavement as if the sky itself were impatient. Mayla hurried through the empty streets, clutching her books close to her chest. As usual, she had no umbrella. College had been dismissed an hour ago, yet Uncle Titi was still nowhere in sight. She sighed, lost in thought, the water soaking her hair and dampening her spirits.
And then he appeared.
“Finally! Where were you, Uncle Ti-tiiiiii?” she shouted, elongating the “ti” to irritate him.
Uncle Titi chuckled, shaking his head. “I’ve warned you many times not to call me TT. And if you insist on adding ‘Uncle’ to calm your evil soul, then what am I to do? After all, I’m younger than you by five years, Aunt Malka.”
Mayla glared at him, though a small smile tugged at her lips. Mischief ran in her blood, and in front of him, she was untouchable.
Meanwhile, the Vega Palace party raged in full swing, the air thick with the presence of the city’s most notorious criminals. Aliyan, with a knowing smile, entered quietly. “Thank Allah you came, Captain Eagle. I’ve been waiting for five hours.”
Mayla raised an eyebrow. “On whose advice did you arrive here first? Or were you just eager to see the vibrancy of the party?” she asked sarcastically.
Aliyan laughed. “Alright, please stop scolding me. I, the innocent Aliyan, apologize to my honorable Captain Eagle.”
Her blue eyes gleamed with quiet fire, signaling that she had already accomplished her mission, and Aliyan smiled, satisfied.
The next morning, sunlight broke gently through the clouds, painting her room in soft gold. Mayla’s gaze lingered on every detail, each object a memory. “May I take this picture with me?” she asked Titi.
“Of course,” he said, “but you have to forget everything about this world and accept our new world.”
“I know…but I can’t forget my dream.”
“Alright,” he said. “Put on this green magic ring.”
“Why is mine green and yours blue?” she asked, curiosity dancing in her eyes.
“Because you have greenish luck,” he replied. “It means you have big goals in your life and that you want to achieve your own dignity.”
Mayla chuckled softly, then slipped the ring onto her finger.
Later, she found herself gazing at the sky, her mind wandering to Captain Aliyan. He stood nearby, eagle-like eyes scanning the horizon.
“Yes, Captain Eagle?” he asked when she noticed him.
“Nothing special,” she said, trying to keep her thoughts private. “I was just randomly walking…then I saw you sitting here.”
“Hmm,” he murmured. “What did Maverick say about the mission?”
Mayla’s tone was firm. “I know, Captain Eagle. That prisoner…he called his death by tormenting Maverick’s brother. But insha’Allah, we will accomplish the mission too.”
Aliyan’s eyes softened. “Wow…wait, Mayla, please slow down. You’re running too fast—you might lose yourself here.”
“I can’t, Titi,” she said confidently. “You’re with me.”
His face paled slightly. “I can’t…cheat you, Mayla,” he whispered, his voice tense.
“What are you thinking?” she asked, noticing his inner turmoil.
“Nothing…let’s go to our new home,” he said finally, a hint of determination in his voice.
The Vega Palace mission had left its mark on all of them. In the basement, a battered prisoner struggled to breathe, his eyes and tongue stained with blood. Captain Eagle stepped forward, calm but determined.
“Did you show any mercy to my brother?” the prisoner rasped.
“I know he was innocent, but I’m proud of him,” Mayla said quietly. “He didn’t beg for his life from a coward like you.”
“You won’t get death that easily,” the prison leader said ruthlessly.
Mayla’s blue eyes remained steady as she instructed the AI assistant to bring the prisoner food. Even in this cruel environment, she maintained her humanity.
Later, Uncle Titi appeared, his presence warm yet mischievous. “Don’t call me Uncle,” she scolded, though a laugh escaped her lips.
“Ok, ok,” he replied, “cool down. I care about you—but remember, in this new world, you can do everything…except calling me Uncle.”
Mayla laughed along with him, feeling the bond of trust and companionship between them.
Back at school, the physics class was underway. Miss Lean lectured on the Theory of Relativity, explaining the possibility of time travel and alternate dimensions.
“Absolutely true,” a voice interrupted, loud and confident. “It’s me—the most intelligent and beautiful girl—Mayla.”
The class chuckled softly. Miss Lean raised an eyebrow. “Lady Einstein, can you prove it?”
“I have no visible evidence…yet. But I will,” Mayla replied, her confidence unwavering.
Later, in the cafeteria, Mayla endured the mockery of classmates like Diana and John. Their words stung, but she remained composed, knowing that her protector—though not of this world—watched over her. Diana’s humiliation and John’s sudden punishment at the hands of unseen forces made the lesson clear: those who mock others often become the joke.
“Was this really necessary?” Mayla whispered to Titi.
“I know you could have handled it,” he replied gently. “But sometimes, I just can’t watch you get hurt.”
Even as she adjusted to this new life, the moral complexities remained. Conversations with Maverick about the prisoner tested her resolve.
“He is a murderer,” Maverick said. “You shouldn’t show him sympathy.”
“I know,” Mayla said softly. “But I want his death to be meaningful, not a mere punishment.”
Titi, ever by her side, reminded her that in this new world, her dreams and goals mattered. She wanted to build a home, earn her own money, and live with dignity.
“Soon,” he said confidently. “You will, Mayla.”
They arrived at a beautiful house, surrounded by blooming flowers and a crystal-clear lake. “Is this yours?” she asked, eyes wide.
“No, it’s my friend’s,” Titi replied, a hint of mystery in his tone. “But he and I are one. He will like your personality.”
Mayla looked at the place, sensing that her life was about to change forever. Though the world around her was strange and dangerous, with magic and mystery intertwining, she knew one thing: she was ready for anything—as long as she had her courage, her friends, and the magic rings guiding her.
The journey of Captain Eagle, her magical rings, and her companions had only just begun. Through challenges, betrayal, and the constant test of morality, Mayla would rise—not just as a hero in another world, but as the master of her own destiny.
The rain had stopped, the sun was breaking through, and a new chapter of adventure awaited.
