Chapter 7.

814 Words
Unknown POV. Once Thomas had finished his phone calls, he also got into the car and the driver started taking us to the hotel that was booked for the duration of this visit. He informed me that the Nightshade Pack were preparing for the return of the future Alpha and Beta as well as their daughter making a surprise return, hence their inability to schedule a closer appointment for us. I understood. Family was important to wolves. I went over the plans again, trying to ignore the gnawing in the back of my mind that something was wrong and someone nearby needed some help. I shook it off. But, my wolf, Hendry, wouldn't stop pestering me to find whomever it was that needed us. We were approaching the next gas station. My driver asked if we needed to stop, but as we weren't that far from the hotel, we decided to keep going. I noticed a couple of cars there and something seemed to draw me in, but we had passed before it bothered me too much more. I returned to the paperwork, but my mind and wolf were drifting back to the scent of our mate. Tan's POV. Shit. I hadn't planned on this. Rogues weren't always evil or nasty creatures. Some just didn't like the pack lifestyle and themselves and their families would leave and live together, close enough to a pack to prevent them completely losing themselves to their wolves, but far enough not to cause any issues. These rogues seemed like the calmer kind, not the blood-lust crazy kind. One of them, a young male, was stocking the shelves from the store room out back, another was behind the counter and the third, another male but older, was cleaning up what appeared to be a breakage from a jar of something. It looked like tomato sauce or something. The one behind the counter, an older woman probably in her late 50s, smiled and waved at me. This made me relax a little bit as I went to pay for the gas and grab a drink from the cabinet. "Welcome to Deer Valley hun. Just passing through?" She asked kindly. "Yeah, I'm on my way back to my parents' place." I replied, pulling out my debit card to pay. "Oh, well you best be going careful, been some odd going's on around here of late. Some, strange attacks and whatnot." She warned. I allowed my scent and aura to come out a bit to show her that we were the same. "Oh, I see. You're a wolf too, and an Alpha's daughter at that." She bowed her head. "I hope that you have a safe journey ahead. Which pack are you heading to?" She looked relieved that I was another wolf. "Nightshade pack. It isn't too far from here." "Oh, that's a lovely pack. They have always been kind to us here." she smiled. "I'm Estella, the other two are my husband Wallace and our son Jed." "It's nice to meet you all. Thank you for your hospitality. I'll be on my way now." "Bye dear." Once I had filled up the car and set off again, I felt relaxed once more. Estella and her family seemed lovely. I got back on the road and after about half an hour I reached the turn-off to the pack lands. We had them secluded in one of the nature reserves. The only time humans were really a threat to us was if they came too close to the pack border. Normally, seeing a larger than normal wolf was enough to keep them at bay, and they mainly stuck to the trails. I drove down the track and approached the gates. The guards didn't recognize me at first, but once I let my full scent and aura out, they, too, bowed their heads and let me pass without issue. I mind linked my mother and father to let them know I had arrived and would be heading straight to my new house, about 10 minutes away from the pack house, and that I would be there once I had freshened up a little after the flight and drive. It felt good to be back home. The pack was a good 700 strong. We had one of the best warrior programs in the country and would often get requests for one of our 7 trainers to go to other packs to aid in training. The packlands though were amazing. We had everything we could ever need here without having to go to one of the bigger towns or cities. There were 2 schools, a hospital, a training hall along with a sparring ring outside. There was also a nursery and library, as well as a bakery, butchery, and supermarket. It was a whole little town hidden in the forest. And, this was my home again.
