CHAPTER 3
Heat Of The Moment
He slowly broke off from the kiss though he is wanting more as he can feel that Janine is also feeling the pull of being his mate. She slowly opened her eyes and realized that she had placed her arms around his neck when the kiss took place. Her cheeks slowly turned red and feel a little embarrassed about what happened. She immediately let go and almost lost her balance. He was quick to wrap his arms around her waist to prevent her from falling.
"I think we should proceed with what needs to be discussed. Your men might be dying from boredom in the receiving room." She giggled and he gently guided her back to her seat.
"May I just sit here beside you while we discuss this offer you have sent me?" Drake smiled while pulling a chair to sit down. She nodded and they started.
"As I have tracked our history of feud, the matter is solely about the burial grounds on the west. I have consulted my grandma before she passed on what needs to be done as our Coven are facing a recession on our business deals on the east. She refused to sell those lands as I have done." She smiled reminiscing the day she was discussing the matter with her granny.
"Good thing that I was able to look for a loophole with those ancestral treaties our ancestors made. I can't believe they made this feud a big deal out of it when it can be resolved in just a matter of small talk." She went on while handing him a black folder locked with a golden thread. He took the folder and opened it. Inside he found several old copies of legal documents for the lands Janine's family was able to acquire over generations.
"Why are you handing me these?" He asked puzzled.
"Right now, aside from the fact that my family's business is not doing great, I am facing quite a trouble around here. You may have seen me earlier talking at the gazebo with our people yet I was warned by my Granny about a traitor who had been scheming against our own family. The balance of our Coven is not in good terms as well, yet I do not want to just banish our people as every family in this place had their fair share of sacrifices made for our Coven to prosper and gain the title as one of the strongest in the land."
She continued and he patiently listened to her. Her voice is a delight for him, the longer they take the more he gets himself familiar with every corner of her face and other features. "I know that our families may not be on good terms but I am willing to return your ancestral burial grounds without any exchange for it. You may say that my offer is too good to be true so I have made myself the honor of proposing that I would be needing protection. Those documents I handed you would be enough to prove that the ancient burial grounds of your ancestors are being returned. My lawyer has already prepared the other documents to complete it."
Hearing that Janine would need protection, made him furious as to who has the guts to hurt his mate chosen by the goddess. His mind immediately thought of a plan on how to protect her from possible harm. That is if she would allow him to take her back to his Packhouse for the meantime. Considering the number of tasks as a High Priestess he doesn't know what else might need to be considered. "I know that this has been of such short notice and I understand that your family, Drake is also interested in acquiring at least some of our business. I do not have any idea how to handle it, as my grandma said that I should be careful about who to trust with this matter as this can be the downfall of the coven. A lot of innocent are depending on these remaining businesses that our family has and I have chosen to rather partner and trust with someone who would take into consideration the value of these people. Which I have seen in your profile as a business owner." She lowered her gaze as she spoke meekly knowing her incompetence in this aspect. He immediately notices the downfall of her tone and he looked at her and smiled.
"You need not worry my little witch, I am yours to command." Her eyes grow wide with the boldness of his statement. She wanted to kiss him there and then but was able to control so she just threw her arms around his neck and whisper to him "Thank you, Drake." Instinctively he wrapped her in his embrace. Knowing this is another spur of the moment. She broke off her embrace leaving him to just hold her hands while still on their seats.
"Let us meet again tomorrow to finish up the plans about the protection you need, together with the lessons you need to take on handling the business. For now, let's exchange numbers so you may call me in case of any emergency that may happen within this day." He stood up still holding her hand and helped her from her chair as well. They exchanged their numbers and walked together to get out of the meeting room. She leads the way to the receiving room where a peal of laughter coming from Janine's maids, Gerald, and the warriors are heard. Janine and Drake take a look at each other and smiled while wondering what happened with the sudden turn of events.
