CHAPTER 6
When Lightnings Clash
As Drake guided Janine to her seat at the meeting table he stood by her side. She didn't take a seat and just stand by his side while hooking her arms with his. The elders seeing this had an eyebrow raised since no one has ever inched a move to touch their High Priestess, not even the younger males who would profess their interest with getting their High Priestess to notice them.
They are called elders yet they are just almost the same age as Drake. Centuries-old to be exact. Janine is from a younger generation which is why she can refer to them as the elders. Her Granny is older than these elders. While Janine waits for everyone to get comfortable seating, Leila came in with the pushcart of tea and finger foods. Leila went around to pour them a cuppa' and place the plates of goodies on the table. Then she went to a corner and stand there.
When Janine saw Leila finished her task and already standing at one corner of the room she started. "Thank you for coming here on short notice." She then paused and tightened her hand holding onto Drake's arm. "Here beside me is Drake, Alpha of the Indigo Moon. He would be taking me to help us with the current status of our businesses in the East. As everyone knows in this room, most of our profit came from those businesses."
Leo one of the elders who had confessed his love for Janine before, stood up to cut her speech. "Why does it have to be him, and why do you have to go with him to someplace? You have a duty here as our High Priestess and you can't just simply leave the town." He stated firmly, and the other elders nodded in agreement.
"First of all Leo, it is reasonable that he would be the one to guide me as he would be the one to currently provide our Coven with the financial aid needed until our businesses are back to its usual stability. Second, being a High Priestess doesn't restrict me to leave and attend to our businesses in every part of the world. You must have forgotten that elders are the ones to take over the responsibilities in town while the High Priestess is gone." She stated with a sarcastic smile.
"You are out of your mind to trust our enemy with the businesses. Not to mention that you are already giving them the land which legally belongs to our Coven." Leo said in a grumpy tone while staring daggers at Drake, who seem to enjoy Janine's arm hooked with his.
It is just like the same scenario when she brought up the topic of poison, one of the elders disagreed and imposed that it is impossible to happen and others would just nod in agreement. They barely give meaning to her views and opinions as they view her as somewhat inexperienced and young. Knowing that it would be impossible for her to convince them she turned to look at Drake.
Drake immediately saw the hint at Janine's face. He pats Janine's hand to reassure her. "Leo is it? Well, for one, does anyone of you here able to surpass what the previous High Priestess has done for the business of your Coven? Then why hasn't anyone helped before the recession period came in?" He asked with a mocking tone. "Let me answer your first question though of why does it have to be me. My full intentions of coming here are pure of business as we have long stopped bloodshed from each other's race. Upon arriving here and meeting your lovely Priestess is perhaps a destiny our Goddess created. She is mine. My mate. My little witch." He proudly said.
The shock on every elder's face can be seen and Leo's face turned red from anger. "Not because you found her as your mate you can already take her away, she is still a human and you can't force her to just go off running away with you." Leo raised his voice.
"I didn't force her to come with me as her mate. She is coming with me as a business partner. Personal matters, especially the matters of the heart can be tackled in between." Drake retorted in a more sarcastic tone, making Leo angrier. Drake can sense that Leo is in a fit of rage already and he's enjoying taunting more of his anger.
Janine wanted to giggle with how the two men are arguing but held herself as she doesn't want the other elders to look down on her. Especially the elder who is almost the same age as her granny, elder Theodore. Leo is one of his descendants and a large part of the Coven is his family members. Elder Theodore to be specific is the one who disagreed with her about the poisoning of her grandmother.
"Gentlemen, I believe this shouldn't be argued about as my intentions are purely for the better future of our younger generations to come." Janine calmly stated. "I will be giving an update once we have arrived at the businesses in the east and see what needs to be done for it to prosper within these trying times. Every one of you has my contact number and we could set up a meeting online if needed." She paused for a while and continued. "The previous tasks are divided the same way as before my dear brothers and sisters. Yet, I will be sending everyone a document within this day to clarify each task. Now, we shall take our leave." Janine finished.
Everyone stood up from their seats and eyed Janine with a disgusted look. Drake unhooks Janine's arm from his and held her hand instead. As Leo was passing by them Drake lifted her hand and kissed her wrist instead. This made Janine gasped from the excitement his lips brought to her skin. Leo, on the other hand, wanted to attack Drake from behind. Drake sensing Leo's rage, he faced him. Leo held back his anger and try to soften his features as he can.
"Mi'Lady, please take care of your journey to the East, and don't forget to call me at least for the updates. If you distaste any of the arrangements provided by this wolf just let me know and I'll be there." He then moves towards Janine reached out his hand to hers and kiss her ring. She allowed it since it has been customary for the elders to kiss her ring. As he kissed her ring, he held her hand give it a gentle squeeze, and kissed her knuckles as well. Drake seeing this, growled to warn Leo.
Janine felt nothing for the kiss on her knuckles made by Leo as she is used to it since she has treated him not just an elder but as a friend as well.
