Mid morning Johnny left his cabin and made his way to Lenoir's cabin. For the last couple months he had grown very fond of the widow and her children. She was helpful, would cook him nice surprises, and had a wonderful laugh. He liked the way she tended her children and worked hard. So it didn't seem like a burden to give her food if he got to spend time in her company. There was frost in the grass, crunching underfoot. Winter was fast approaching and he wanted both houses stocked up. At the turn to her cabin from the trail Johnny paused. He thought he had heard voices.
