CHAPTER 7

1296 Words
Nora's POV I didn't get enough sleep last night, I couldn't seem to get my mind off it. I need to clear my head. I thought as I got ready for school. Once I was done I went downstairs and there I saw mum flipping pancakes, I love her so much. " Hey mom, good morning" I said as I walked into the kitchen. " Good morning sweetie, how was your night " mum responded. I couldn't tell her the truth I didn't want her to worry. " It was great, so what's for breakfast" I said. " Ohh I'm making pancakes, have a seat you don't wanna be late, do you?" I sat down and waited till she dished my food. I ate super fast, I didn't want to be late. "Should I drop you off " mum asked. Taking a walk my be the best way for me to clear my head. I might has well walk to school, it's not that far. " No mum, I'd rather walk, might be a good way to get my mind at peace" I told her After breakfast I ran back up to my room to pick my backpack, once I took it, I had the urge to look back and I did. I looked through the window at the forest, shivers went down my spine as I stared deep into the forest. I took deep breaths and left my room, I'm not dealing with this today. "Bye mom" I waved as I walked out the door. "Wait! Nora Nora hold up" mum yelled as she approached me. "What's wrong, did I forget something? " I asked 'No you didn't, umm.... I'm having a meeting with the Alpha, so I don't know if I'll be back before you" Mom said. Aha! that's the word again 'alpha', I heard it in school yesterday. "Mom?? Alpha" what or who is alpha" I asked really confused. She looked nervous as I mentioned it" Ohh sorry honey I mean I'm having a job interview " No way I'm having that, Mom doesn't know how to lie, lol. "Really?? in this area, so who's doing the interview, the trees??". "No honey, I'm driving to town. I need to get a job to pay the mortgage" she responded. "Hmmn okay then, have a nice day, I gotta run" I waved. "Bye sweetie " Mom waved back. I put on my ear pods as I walked down the road, I really love the scenery of this town apart from the creepy part that is. I put on one of my favorite happy songs and sang out loud as I was walking down to school. ' what's that supposed to be about baby ' ' go free up your vibe stop acting crazy ' ' reminiscing all the good times daily ' ' tryna pull that got me acting crazy ' I kept singing the song 'Breathe' by Olly Alexander. I noticed a group of people walking past me, they looked like students as they were carrying backpacks. I turned of the music but I didn't remove my ear pods, smart right??. " That's the new kid, she's human. I think she's tge Alpha's mate" I heard one of the girls say. " Did you see the way she tipped Layla off yesterday in the cafeteria, it was so nice to see someone step up to that b***h. I love her, she would definitely make a good Luna for us, finally" another girl murmured. " Yeah she's awesome" the last girl finally spoke. Okay, what the f**k is going on, aren't they humans?? Luna??? Alpha again???. I need to find Julia ASAP. Funny how we only met yesterday and it feels like we've been friends since, she's lovely. Finally, I got to the parking lot and there I saw Julia leaning on a black SUV with a guy, wait? that's the guy that came in with creepy Alex, yes that's his new name. I ran over to meet her. " Hey Julia" I waved as I approached her. " Nora, how are you doing today" she said with a hug. " Ohh I'm fine apart from the fact that I didn't get enough sleep last night" " Oh my! why what happened" she asked looking so worried, awwn. " Ohh nothing much, just wandered into the forest and saw something, let's just forget about it" I said not wanting too much attention. Julia looked at that guy beside her, they both had the same look as mom, weird right??. "Umm anyways, Nora this is Tim, my mate... umm I mean boyfriend" Nora said. Wait what!! she's dating this Alex friend. " Hi I'm Tim" he scratched his neck. Nora has taste, this guy is so handsome, like come on guys. But not as handsome as Alex, wait did I just say that in my mind. " Ohh I'm Nora nice to meet you" I responded. The door of the car open and guess who came out.... Alex. Looking so handsome in his denim outfit. His hair slicked back to perfection, that jawline, ohhhhh my days, those lips, sweet heavens take me now. My brain short-circuited for a solid five seconds. Maybe six. Alex stepped out like he owned the goddamn world. Denim jacket. Boots. That smirk. Why did he have to look like a whole forbidden snack? Ugh. Get it together, Nora. “Hey,” he said, voice all low and dangerous like some bad-boy movie character. I cleared my throat and pretended I didn’t just blush. “Hey... creepy Alex.” He raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. “Creepy? I thought we were past that.” “Not even close,” I replied, crossing my arms and trying not to melt. “You still show up out of nowhere, act like you know me, and you keep staring at me like I’m a mystery you’re trying to solve.” “I am,” he said without missing a beat. Okay. Pause. What? Julia awkwardly coughed. “Alright! Uh, we should probably head to class, right?” “Yes. Totally. Class. Education,” I muttered, still watching Alex like he was about to pull out a wand or something and confess he was a vampire. Or wizard. Or both. We walked in silence—well, not total silence. Tim and Julia whispered behind me while Alex stayed weirdly close. Not that I minded. Okay, I minded a little. My brain was racing with words like Alpha, Luna, mate... Suddenly, Alex leaned toward me. “You shouldn’t have gone into the forest,” he whispered. My heart dropped. “What?” “I smelled your fear last night.” Pause. Rewind. He smelled me? “What the actual hell—” A loud growl echoed in the distance. We all stopped. “What was that?” I asked, backing up slightly. Tim and Alex exchanged a look. A serious one. Not the I-ate-your-last-cookie look. This one screamed we’re-screwed. “Nora,” Julia said slowly, “you need to come with us.” “Come where?” Alex stepped in front of me, shielding me like someone just pressed the danger button. “Home isn’t safe anymore,” he said. “They know who you are now.” Wait... what? “Who knows?” But before he could answer, a blur shot out from the woods behind the school—a massive, jet-black wolf with glowing red eyes—and it was coming straight for me. Everything froze. Except Alex. His eyes shifted—literally changed color—and then he growled. Like, really growled. And right before I could scream, he muttered something that made my blood run cold. “They’re here for my mate.”
