Tau's POV

"Joya?" Emiliano snorted. "That was well before we had laws and customs." He rolled his eyes heavenward.

"So, she still ruled for 60 years before there was a successor." I heard Jewel snort back.

"Doesn't matter she doesn't count. Why do you want to fight this?" Emiliano glanced between Tau and me? "Do you not want to marry your true mate?" You could see how she answered this question was what he planned to do. He was going to pull something. You could smell it.

" Of course I want to marry my mate." Jewel scoffed. "I just worry it will have effects on his second task." She looked down at the floor.

"I can marry you. You are my second chance. Then you can keep him after." Gael spoke a little too enthusiastic for my liking.

"No, I am still marrying Tau," Jewel growled. The vibration of her growl let it be known there was no backing out of it.

"So why are we having this late-night meeting?" Groaned Sául.

"Because I want to understand why the law the new Queen has to marry. There is no text to explain why it was put into existence." Jewel's tone, left nothing to the imagination.

"Well, if your Uncle Cacodemon hadn't killed the ancient Lobos we could ask him." Samuel snarled back.

"Not my fault the old fart got killed for being the worthless s**t bag he was." Jewel shot back with venom in her words.

"I may have a solution." It was Linzi's voice we heard. Every eye and man leaped up with a surprising growl.

Attention turned to Linzi, a lazy smile spread across her face. Mortou and Athens (a Cheshire cat grin on his face) staring back at us. Athens even though this could be hostile, pointed to Linzi clapped his hands, and giggled.

"Who are you?!" Demanded Emiliano.

"Linzi," she scoffed at him as she moved closer to Jewel. Jewel I noticed stood, taking steps to her. I could see the grin on her face.

"Linzi this is a surprise." Jewel clasped hands with Linzi as they hugged.

"I got word about Joya and this meeting and knew I needed to come here." Linzi grinned down at Jewel. You could see the motherly glint in her eyes.

"MOM!" Shouted Leon as he started to bound toward them.

"Act like your station pup." Linzi curled her lip at Leon. Her eyes darting to give him some side-eye.

Leon I noticed, skidded to a stop, eyes downcast as a whimper escaped him. He turned, settling quietly back in his chair. Sául I noticed smirked at him as did a few others. Leon noticed it too. He raised his lips in challenge to them. There was a tense moment before they stopped as Linzi cleared her throat. She stood next to Jewel. I took my place just behind her. I had no idea how this was gonna go now.

"Joya was mated to Conin. They were to mate after his second task. His task was to kill Tvso's father. Conin died, Joya never picked another mate." Linzi paused as she eyed each man at the table. You could see they were shifting under her stare. "Joya was killed by her youngest brother Joesph." Linzi spat the words out.

Even Jewel glanced up in shock at the utter distaste she had for the man. "He killed her while she slept. Didn't even challenge her. She was too strong for him even in her later years. She would have lasted likely as long as the old Lobos head had." She paused looking around the room to ay her eyes on Emiliano. "How old was the nasty bastard?"

"454," Emiliano squeaked out under her intense gaze.

"At the time of her death, she was only 90," Linzi's words held a deep sorrow. "After her Joesph and the other males worried another female would be as strong. So they always made them marry and allowed the males to take charge. They made sure to breed with females lower so that strong females would not be born." Linzi giggled then. It was like she had a tickle of insanity.

Linzi looked back at Jewel with such love, that it warmed the area around us. "Your dear leader chose to breed to the hidden Lyican Queen. Allowing this beautiful she-wolf to grow. The Gods and Goddesses aided her by having her brother. His wolf Tys is notorious all over ancient Europe as the wolf of death. She was given Tau, the griffin as her mate so that this time history would not repeat." Linzi turned again. This time she faced everyone in the 12 families. "I know Cacodemon has threatened you, my pup told me that. But understand you make this hard on my girl and I will help him bury you." With that Linzi leaped to the table a massive brown wolf, she walked the edge of the table. Her lips lifted in a smile that was not happy. It promised deadly things. Each family head she stopped at she snapped her teeth at them.

We heard the whimper from Leon, as she sat, looking at him she turned her head to the side. She licked his face and jumped back down as the woman she was. " Pay attention to the signs," she winked at Jewel and me. Then she went back to Mortou and Athens.

"The threat of my mate comes with me too." Growled Mortou to each of the family heads.

"I will kill with them just because." Snickered Athens just before they disappeared.

"How many ancients do you have on your side?" Groaned Emiliano, he lowered his eyes to cover his face.

"My mother the Lyican Queen, has pacts with all the ancients, if there is one missed then my Uncle Hawk knows of them or has killed them." Jewel swelled with pride. "All want to see me succeed." Akasa vibrated a deep growl that brought her presence known to the table. "So fall in line." Jewel's eyes flashed their black with violet uniqueness. I was proud, this could have gone bad. We managed to keep it together. These Southern Wolves were sure a blood-thirsty lot. I was glad Jewel had the connections she had. Any other person would have been dead already given the plots these scheming wolves had.
