Loredana "Lory's" POV
"King Joe here." I heard the King I had come to work for, after finding my mate Mike last year.
"It's Lory, Cacodemon showed up and killed two people. One a family head who has tried to kill Jewel since last time I guess?" I formed it as a question because I was not here during that. I met them kn the European trip where they fought and killed Velito.
"Lobos, that old bastard needed to die anyway." I heard the King growl.
"He and a demon named Nightbreed?" I threw out to him. He wanted me to keep him in the loop about how his daughter was going and if she needed any help.
"I have heard of Nightbreed, slightly younger than our Beta Hawk but deadly. Why?" He asked me with a hint of a growl.
"He had been hired to kill Jewel. Either way, both are dead now." I shrugged. In this wild family death of an enemy was no big thing.
"So my girl is safe?" He seemed not so sure.
"Well other than the impending dragon threat yeah she is good." I knew the dragon threat would be a rough one. I hoped we could do what needed to be done.
"Anything else I need to know?" He seemed like he knew but I wasn't sure what.
"You know about the marriage she has to do?" I figured I would ask. He would know if anyway.
"I knew they would make her, who did they pick?" He asked, you could hear the worry in his voice even though he was hiding it.
"Tau," I grinned into the phone. Yes, even I was on team Tau. I knew the King was too.
"Well, got damn! I like that boy!" He paused a moment, "how did he manage that?"
"Probably when he threw the security head thirty feet and Jewel knocked out eight of his men." I chuckled as the memory flashed begin my eyes.
"Hahahaa" You could hear the King slap the table as he laughed. "That is one way to do it!" He finished his laugh to ask, "any other worries you think?"
"No just the impending dragon threat." I figured all of us were in the same boat. We would manage as we did with Velito and the mad scientist guy.
"I will make sure we are down for that." The growled low. I knew he would always help Jewel. Regardless of who her actual father was, he was her dad. He would be there come hell or high water.
"That's all I have right now," I told him.
"Thank you, please keep me posted " Then he hung up.

Maya's POV
*********
"Athens why did my Beta Hawk and you leave and he come back bloody?" I asked my soul brother as he sat in the chair on the porch waiting for our afternoon conversations.
"I took him to Jewel this morning. She had told him about someone named Ivan Nightbreed. He went to check it out and found that Lobos had hired the old demon to kill Jewel." Athens plastered a massive grin on his face.
"So, they are both dead?" I leaned back to sip my coffee.
"Of course, it was a treat to see Cacodemon kill." Athens giggled. I knew he always hit a little rush from the violence that was displayed.
"How are my kids?" I glanced over the rim of my coffee mug.
"Your boy has a lovely powerful which mate, And your feral daughter went toe to toe with an ancient demon well past most people." Athens grinned as a cup of blood tea was sat down in front of him by Amber.
"Do we know what he came back with blood splatter?" Amber sat down with her coffee to look at us both.
"Lobos and a demon named Nightbreed are dead." I summarized what Athens just told me.
"Nightbreed has been sent a formal letter saying that Cacodemon placed protections on all of you." Amber leaned back to wrinkle her brow a bit. You could see she was thinking something. "He didn't take his, soul. I wonder why."
"How do you know they didn't take the soul?" Athens leaned forward to ask.
"When I got pregnant with Kiwani I noticed I could tap into the connection. I have never seen him not take one." If she thought it odd we should keep on the lookout for ideas.
"I didn't take the soul as there was no one." The man, my brother from ancient times literally could make me a jumping bean. He could be anywhere and you would have to hear his voice.
"How did he not have a soul?" Athens asked.
"That was his price to be a demon." He laughed a little. "Everyone has a price they pay."
"How was my girl?" I looked at both men who had seen her this morning.
"She is doing just fine," Athens chuckled.
"She stayed fighting the demon almost as old as me and was holding her own. I am very proud of my niece." Hawk grinned, he picked up Amber sat in the chair, and pulled her on his lap. She squealed and yanked his braid playfully.
"Well, all that training she threw herself into is good then." I sighed. Yes, I was a worried momma. Yes, I wanted to fight her battles for her, and yes I wanted her home and safe with me.
A momma's wish is to keep her babies safe and out of harm's way. The dragon threat worries me now. If Lobos was gone that was one less worry I needed. The other families shod fall in line.
"I am keeping an eye on the families, Leon from Linzi's is taking over the head of Lobos family." Athens sipped some blood tea. "He is a bit of a noob but he has a good heart." he grinned.
"Well, that is good at least." I closed my eyes this being a mom with older kids was rough! I knew it wouldn't be long till I would be down there and wrap my arms around her to know she was safe.
