Rachel's POV
I am not sure why Jewel sent this big hunk of a Viking with me. Instinct may say he is my mate but, I am not good enough for a man like that. I was barely decent for the human husband I had. I was told for a long time I was not worth much to anyone. My human husband even started cheating on me because he just wasn't into me anymore.
Jewel and her brother are the only two I want to deal with. I was told I was not meant for great things. That big blonde yum of a Viking should not bother with me. I am just a waste of space to him. I can't give him anything he needs. I would rather hide away from the world than be rejected for things they can't handle because of me.
"What is your name mate?" The deep-voiced man near me asked.
"R.. Rachel." I glanced up to see him watching me closely.
"Rachel," He repeated my name. It never sounded so good. His blue eyes watching me closely.
"Wh... What is your name?" I glanced back up to those intense blue eyes.
"Isaiah" He answered with a smirk.
"If you want to reject me I understand." I bowed my her low. I was waiting for the rejection pain. I had felt it once on my 18th birthday. He was a ranked wolf. Said he didn't want half-breed scum in his bloodline.
"I would never reject you." Isaiah's voice rumbled. "I have waited a few hundred years for you to show up." He took a step toward me. I took a step back. Until I ran into the bookshelf behind me.
"Why would you want me?" I looked down at the floor. My back against the bookshelf and Isaiah's big burly frame holding me there.
"Why would I not." He raised an eyebrow at me.
"I am a half breed. Part pack wolf and part southern wolf. My first rejection was at 18, then my human husband no longer wanted me." I looked back at the floor. I was holding back the tears squeezing my eyes shut.
"I am a half breed too. Half wolf and half dragon." He answered. His deep voice making my insides quiver.
"I am a weak wolf," My eyes were still downcast. Why had Jewel sent him with? I didn't want this conversation. It was going to hurt.
"I don't think you are a weak wolf. I think people have been mean to you and you have hidden away so you no longer get hurt." His words are right next to my ear. The blonde whiskers from his beard tickling my ear and neck.
"I am not suitable for you. You need a warrior." I gulped trying to hold back the tears.
"Maybe I don't want a warrior, maybe what I need is love. Someone willing to love all of me, including my rough edges." His words are soft with their deep tone. Caressing my skin in a way I had never heard.
"I don't know how good I would be at that," I sighed. My body was reacting to him in ways that surprised me.
"Oh, I think you would. If the Moon Goddess paired us, then she knows what she is doing." You can hear his absolute faith in her judgment from his words.
I wasn't sure what to say to that. My mind was cloudy, I had this urged to reach out and touch him. My body wanted him to touch me. I was so messed up, that when I opened my eyes I felt cradled and safe in his closeness. I let my finger reach out and touch his chin. I saw him close his eyes and sigh. The sparks were fantastic, the warmth of his skin like nothing before.
"I will not reject you." He adamantly whispered. His arms scooped me up, as he's buried his nose in the crook of my neck. A deep groan left his mouth. He let me just touch his face, chest and run my fingers through his blonde hair.
He was just as solid And muscled as I thought he was. "Why won't you reject me?" I breathed. His arms wrapped around me in a solid embrace.
"The Moon Goddess made you just for me. I have waited all my life to have my mate. I promised myself I would not reject her." He pulled me tightly to his chest. "I promise whatever mean things have happened to you will never happen again." Isaiah buried his nose in the crook of my neck once again. I did the same. The scent of heaven was all over him.
"Rach?" I heard Jewel's voice call from the front of the library.
I let go of Isaiah, to head to her voice. He was following me closely. "Here Jewel." I stood next to the table I had called my own the past few weeks.
Jewel and Tau came up to the section, I was working at. I pulled the passage, I had found that talked of one of the first Queens without a husband.
She ruled with an iron clawed fist. No males lay with her or stood behind her. She was the strongest wolf in the kingdom.
I read out loud.
"Do we know who this Queen was?" Jewel asked.
"Her name no, but I know she is from the Munoz line." I gathered the other materials I had found. We were showing the family tree. Trying to see the woman who ruled. We couldn't locate a single Queen who rules without a husband.
"Perhaps it was the first one," Tau mentioned offhand.
"You mean like a founding one?" Jewel looked back at him.
"Yes, they may have wiped out all of her histories." He glanced at the papers.
"If she was. wiped from this histories there must be something that we can do to find her." Jewel looked back up at Tau. I could see she was indeed curious about what I had found.
I looked over to see Isaiah quietly saying nothing. "Do you know who this Queen was?" I asked him.
"No, Likely Munoz line before the males took over the ruling." He grunted.
"You keep searching Rachel. Isaiah, please stay with her. If any of the head families find out they will not be happy." Jewel looked at him intently.
"You have my word, I will protect my mate with my life," Isaiah said while his eyes landed directly on me. It sent shivers through me just thinking what a beast of a man like him could do. For the first time in my life, I felt safe.
