THE SWEET DAD

EPISODE ONE: DAD’S FINALWORDS.   “I feel so awkward today,” Emily whispered after saying a short prayer. Her night was full of nightmares, sweat was drizzling from her pajamas. She was buried in thoughts trying to recall what she was dreaming all that night. She finally gathered enough courage to walk to the shower. While she was taking a bath, this song called Bye was ringing in her mind like a church bell. “Is Jimmy (her boyfriend) about to leave me or what is wrong?” She thought. Emily headed downstairs to have her breakfast. She was the last one to wake up that day and, due to this, her dad was so furious. “Good morning?” She said before sitting down. She noticed that her dada had not responded to her greetings. “Dad, are you mad at me?” She asked. He was still quiet. “Who is the eldest kid in this home? “Her dad finally asked, throwing a sharp eye to Emily. “I,” she answered, feeling a bit embarrassed. “How comes it’s your sister Aaliyah who wakes up so early, helps your mother prepare breakfast, arrange the dining table and do all the other staff why you are still asleep?’’ He said in a furious roaring voice. “You should be the role model, one who makes sure everything is alright in our home, you should be the one taking care of your sibling’s needs, you are the parent when we are not around Emily!” “You are doing the opposite, Emily!” “You are a disappointing firstborn Emily, stapes up Emily!” He said and left for work. Emily was so angry, she could not hold her tears. Her mum tried to comfort her but her efforts bore no results. Emily angrily said that that was not her dad and she went to her bedroom to get her bag and left for school. It was a hard time for her mum, she was so confused about what step to take next. Her mum was working as a Data Manager in a company that was not so far from Emily’s school. She decided that before she could go to work sg=he would go to Emily’s school check her and later head to her workplace. She drove Aaliyah to the bus stop and headed to The Brighton School, where Emily schooled. Fortunately, she was able to meet one of her college mates at Emily’s school. Consequently, she was Emily’s class teacher. They were able to advise Emily through the school psychologist on how to take responsibility her being the elder kid. Her mum left for work. Emily was in a low mood that day, she was all alone that whole day, she avoided even her boyfriend, Jimmy. It was really a bad day for her. The words of her dad had replaced the bye song in her mind. “I think dad is right, am in college, a grown up, one who is capable of having a home, but am irresponsible, am always lazy waiting things to be done for me, Aaliyah is far better than I am, I need to change.” She thought. Emily made a decision to correct her behaviors from that day. As she was heading home from school she explained what had happened to her boyfriend Jimmy, this is after Jimmy asked her what brought her mum to school that day. Jimmy was a nice guy, he was always there for Emily, he advised her and even helped her study. He even protected her frim bullies of her class. Jimmy advised her to apologize to her dad immediately he arrived home and promise him that she would manner up. They parted ways and Emily went home ready to apologize and change her behavior. When she arrived home she immediately scheduled a studying and working timetable to help her balance her studying time and working time. After that she did her assignment and she headed to the kitchen and started preparing supper. She was going to prepare a tasty meal to gain back respect from her dad. “I can’t wait for my dad’s forgiveness; I want to be hugged by him again,” she whispered. Suddenly her mom arrived from work, she was so elated seeing Emily prepare supper before her. “Wow, watch my first born daughter do splendid work,” her mum said as she gave her a warm hug. She was so excited that her advice had worked. Finally, Emily had finished cooking supper. All that was remaining was to apologize to her dad. They sat down the three of them, Emily, her mum and Aaliyah watching their favorite TV Show. They were waiting for their dad to arrive so that they could have dinner together. The night was getting darker and time was moving but their dad had not arrived yet. “Call daddy mum,” Aaliyah said to her mum. “Don’t be scared darling dad told me he would be late today,” her mum replied. Aaliyah tried to insist but Emily told her to calm down. They enjoyed sharing stories together. Their mum was sharing Emily’s childhood memories when she peed on her self during a church service. This made them crack their ribs. As there were talking their mum’s phone rang. Aaliyah was so fast to get it. Their mum took the phone; it was a call from a nearby hospital their dad had been engaged in a fatal road accident. “Why are you crying mum?” Emily asked. Emily could not believe she called Jimmy who drove them to the hospital. Hell broke loose when they arrived at the hospital. Unfortunately, their dad had passed away. They cried so hard they not believe it. It was most hard for Emily, she wanted to apologize to her dad but he was not there anymore. Her screams filled the hospital. The song bye playing in the background of the scene. They were allowed to watch their dad’s lifeless body. Their relatives, friends, neighbors and classmates had come to the hospital after receiving the sad news. They headed home and started burial preparation. That very night Emily did not sleep, her dad’s words were playing on her little mind. Those words became her turning point and her dad’s last words. She said an oath to always follow the advice from her dad.
