AN OUTSIDER FOR ALPHA THERON
“Where is she?” he asked the guards that were mounted at the entrance of the prison. They stammered, struggling to get the right words out.
His presence alone could make the most eloquent person lose their sense of speech.
In their defense, they had not been expecting him, not at this hour at least.
“I said," Where is she ?!”, he growled even louder. He was not a man of patience, he despised slowness and hated repeating himself even more.
“Don’t tell me you lost her”, they were dead this instant if they did. They knew that.
“No alpha, never ”, the older of the two spoke up finding the courage , “cell sixty-seven, she lays there”, his voice trembling.
He shoved passed them, their fright disgusted him. He walked into the prison, his royal guard by his side, and the men he had just spoken to following them from behind.
With every strut, the wails of the prisoners echoed in the building, promising their loyalty, and begging for mercy at the very sight of him.
He kissed his teeth, this was why he hated coming here. The laments, the awful smell of blood and sweat. That smell of betrayal, rogues and what not, drove him crazy.
He needed a deep cleanse after.
However, today,he needed to be here against his will. He had a special guest waiting for him, a little gift from the opposing pack, one he personally needed to teach a lesson.
“There you are”, a smirk crept on his face as he approached her cell. She sat there behind bars, in torn linen that was more reddish brown than white, oozing of dried blood.
“Well well well”, his smile widened. He was finally meeting the worthless wolf that alpha Brandon felt smart enough to come spy on his pack.
Pathetic.
He always sent women.
That told him all he needed to know.
She struggled to lift her head to look at the man who was now standing before her. With the authority in his voice she sensed he was someone of great importance.
She was too weak to speak, bruised and emotionally scarred. She had been in this prison for three days, starved of food and water, tortured severely, all for a crime she did not commit.
Everyone thought she was a spy, she had explained severally she was not. At this point, she was tired of saying that she was just a girl who had lost her way.
Maybe that was very hard to believe, especially when you are a member of the crescent moon pack. She exhaled, now she was in only where the goddess knew, fighting for her life.
“You look at me when I’m talking to you!”He spoke to her, her head was still down. Her hair wet from sweat and blood, clinged to her face, hiding all her facial features.
One of the guards with him used a wooden stick to poke at her, she didn’t budge. She physically could not, her head seemed to be a lot of weight on her small body now.
“I see we have a tough one”, he chuckled looking at his royal guard, who joined in the laughter sheepishly.
“I love this”,he said, his gaze back at her. He loved a good challenge, especially when it came to these females.
‘This would be fun’,.
It was always interesting stripping them of their power and dignity, watching them lose all resilience they had earlier feigned.
He signaled the guard at his right to open her gate. He did so immediately.
He walked in, “you really don’t know who you’re messing with, do you?”, he chuckled again when he heard her whimper.
“No longer audacious?”, he knelt to meet her at eye level. Pulling a fistful of her hair, he yanked her head up. She let out a loud cry, the guards roared in laughter.
Smiling, he looked up at her and was met with her big pleading brown eyes, his heart immediately did a little squeeze, he looked away quickly.
Shutting his eyes, he let go of her hair. ‘What just happened?’
He was confused by the electric jolt he felt in his body when they made eye contact , he had never felt this way before. He blinked, trying to clear his head, his heart was now beating faster.
He turned back to look at her, “Who are you?”, he whispered his thoughts out loud.
She tried to speak, “I-, Ir-“, she kept stuttering, her body became so limp she could no longer hold her weight. Against all resistance she fell, like second nature he caught her.
‘What was happening to him?’
He was taken aback at how he caught her without a second thought.
The guards quickly rushed to his side, getting her off him.
“Are you okay alpha?”, one asked.
He didn’t reply, he was still stunned by what had just happened.
Why did her eyes feel as though she bore into his soul? He looked at how she laid nearly lifeless on the floor, a tug of war brewed within him. He didn’t know if he wanted to save her at the moment to punish her further or to understand what had just happened.
Regardless of whatever was running through his mind, one thing was for certain. He needed this woman alive.
He stood up from the ground, “Check her pulse?”, it was a quiet command.
The one that was kneeling beside her, held her hand, finding her radial pulse.
“Weak and thready”, he looked up at him waiting for the next command.
“Take her to the royal physician right now ”
Now they all looked at him in disbelief, he could read their minds.
He only used the royal physician.
“You heard me! Make sure she lives or you're both dead.”, they carried her immediately, rushing out of the prison.
“Are you okay alpha?” His guard,Winston asked when he noticed he kept touching his head
“Yes”,he answered, mildly irritated.
“Tell the guards to do a shift, stay here till that’s done”
“Yes my lord”,
he turned to leave, pausing in his tracks he turned back at Winston.
“And, I don’t want to hear a word of this outside. Tell those fools too. Guard her till she recovers”
“Yes my lord”
Now he desperately needed her alive. He needed answers, answers that were not related to Alpha Brandon anymore.
He needed to know why his heart was thudding this way for her.
