The words struck her like lightning. “You’re mine now”. Suddenly, the thought of losing her autonomy felt worse than death. ‘What did he even mean by that? She didn’t belong to anyone but the goddess. “I belong to no one”, she hissed at him, making it clear. He may be the alpha of alphas but she refused to be intimidated by him. He didn’t reply, instead he walked farther away from her and his physician.Finding his way to the door, he rested on it,watching every step of the examination intricately. “Easy child”, Theophilius said only to her hearing. She became still. He placed his ear on her chest, listening to her heartbeat. Could he hear how scared she was? She wondered. When he was done, he moved to her abdomen. Dividing them into quadrants, pressing each lightly then more harder than he had before. “What are you doing?”Alpha Theron called out, seeing him touch her below the abdomen. He stopped, “Examining her pelvis”, the old man replied, looking at him. “Mhm, okay. Go ahead”, Theron scoffed.Unknown to him, he started tapping his feet. Discomfort seizing him. He didn’t like it and her little moans from pain were not helping. “Are you done?”, he asked a few seconds later. “No,” now Theophilius was on her leg. “ Hurry up, I don’t have all day”, his tone sharp. Iria couldn’t help but wonder if this was how he talked to people. Even those much older than him and closest to him. “Yes my lord”, he pressed on her feet looking at her face. There were no signs of edema, “all good” He handed her that cup she had once rejected, “you need to take this dear”, she was hesitant . “ trust me”, his kind eyes did more talking than his lips ever did. She took it from him, seizing her breath , she gulped it down. “Yuck”, she handed him the empty cup. He dropped it on the table. “She’s ready to leave with you my lord” *** After thirty minutes on the road, they arrived at Alpha Theron’s mansion. Her jaw dropped in awe at how magnificent the edifice was, she had seen nothing like this in her twenty three years of living. The guard who she later learned was Winston helped her get down from the chariot. Alpha Theron got down after her. “Should I clear the people from the entrance?,”Winston asked him. Alpha Theron looked around. Workers could be seen going about their daily duties. It was still morning labour time. “No” She looked at him in surprise. She had not been expecting that response, entering the palace more discreetly felt like the wiser thing to do. He should know that. What was he thinking? Why was he not hiding her? What did he want from her? She was an outsider, a lost wolf but so far he had not treated her that way. He treated her like she was more important. Why ? His powerful hands held her wrist tightly, “ let’s go”. She followed him, groaning. “Too tight, it hurts”. His grip became tighter. She rolled her eyes at his lack of sympathy. They walked past the staring eyes. She could hear murmurs follow like a song as they walked past. “Who is she?” “He’s with a woman?” “A Luna?” Was this what he wanted? Did he want to start a rumour? Understanding his motive was hard. It didn’t make sense to her but she decided to keep mute. Perhaps if she was on her best behavior, she could use this opportunity wisely.Maybe in some way, she could find a way to go back to her people. If she played her cards right she might live. Inside the mansion, a woman who looked like she was in her late fifties dressed in black came down the stairs to greet him. “my lord”, she curtseyed. “Helena, how are you?”, he gave her a pat on her shoulder. She observed the dynamic between the two. He appeared to be lighter around this woman. “I’m putting her under your care, I trust you. Prepare a room next to mine for her” Iria could tell from the woman’s body language that this was a strange request. “yes my lord” , Helena didn’t ask any questions, she dared not question his authority. Iria followed her quietly from behind. She looked around, there were no pictures of family, none of him as well. She found that strange. “Your name? Child” “Iria , Iria Thompson” “A Thompson. Crescent moon pack?” “ oh, yes. How did you know?”, she was certain they were not the only ones answering Thompson. “ I had a friend many years ago. She married a Thompson, changed packs” Iria nodded, “can I ask her name?” “Brenda. Brenda Thompson”, Helena replied softly, reminiscing the memories they had shared. Iris’s eyes brightened,“She’s my grand sister in law”, she replied excitedly. What were the odds? “She was the only person that spoke fondly of this pack. I should have known she had some ties to it” Helena gave her brief smile, “she always said she would send a gift back, I guess that’s you” Iria found herself smiling for the first in a week since she stepped foot in here. They were in the hallway on the third floor now. It was void of pictures but had more beautiful sculptures and art works. “That’s his room.” She pointed at the last door in the middle of the hallway. She was getting eerie vibes from it. “This would be your room” , she pointed at the door just next to his. “Why is it so close?”, she had not meant to voice her concern out loudly. Helena truthfully wondered the same. It was unheard of for an outsider to live in the palace let alone stay this close to him. Most importantly, that was the room reserved for Luna. What was Theron thinking? He was definitely going to get into a lot of trouble with the elders for this. She looked at the confused petite girl in front of her. She looked so much like Brenda, same curly brunette hair, pointed nose and those beautiful brown eyes. “maybe he sees something you don’t or feels something”
