Chapter 15

People had been fantasizing about vampires in movies. They think these beings are cool. Well, they do appear cool in books and movies but not until you have one above you trying to have you murdered. One thing I know for sure, the threat wasn't over yet. On top of the roof, bumps had formed on the impact of the thing that landed on it. "What was that?" I asked Jessy, voice shaky. She pursed her lips, heaving an annoyed breath. "More vampires. It's already night so you better expect more of them to show up." That wasn't the news I wanted to hear. Klank! Whoever is above us clearly wanted to have our roof destroyed. It slammed the Tesla roof until there were dozens of upside down mini mountains near my head. I yelped. My heart leaped as a blade pierced the roof a few inches from my shoulder. The blade glistened between us before moving upwards, pulled up by the attacker. "Darn these vampires," Jessy cursed under her breath. She glanced at me and to the roof. I yelped again when the blade pierced another hole on the roof. This time, Jessy reddened. "Do you know how to drive?" she yelled. I was too startled to talk. I nodded. "Take the wheel!" "What?" "Take the wheel!" she yelled. "If you don't drive you'll get us both killed!" "Fine, fine!" I didn't know what she had in mind but I grabbed the wheel as the blade pinned again, nearly hitting my head. I gulped when the glistening metal moved upwards, about to strike again. Jessy kicked the door open, sending it plummeting into the sidewalk. Her strength had me awed but I didn't have time to cheer in merriment. I grabbed the steering wheel and kept my foot on the gas. The vampire above me kept stabbing the roof like it was some piece of bread. Jessy held on the hood of the Tesla and gripped on it tight. She managed to get herself out and swung her foot on the top, coat rippling with the wind. I tried to focus on the road, finding it hard to stay calm whenever Jessy yells and grunts overhead. Metallic clash of swords echoed above me. I'm not gonna deny. I feared for Jessy's life. Whatever it is that she's fighting up there made me want to go and help her. But the only thing I could do as of the moment was to keep the car running. I nearly freaked out when Jessy fell on the windshield, cracking it. She grunted and held on the wiper. "Are you alright?" I asked in panic. "Keep driving!" A blade slashed near her face. Covering her face, she dodged it. She crawled back to the roof and her trenchcoat covered the cracked windshield. I couldn't see the road, making the Tesla trot and almost crash. Jessy got upwards and the clashing sound resumed. A series of grunts, thugs, yelling and cursing augmented on top of me. I couldn't focus on the road. A blade banged at the windshield, shattering it. I kept my grip on the wheel as shards rained on me. Jessy's head appeared infront of me, ghostly pale hands gripped on her neck, trying to choke her to death. Someone I couldn't see from my point of view. A surge of fear and panic invaded me. I was torn between helping her and keeping the car running. "K-keep. . .d-driving Peter!" She struggled to free herself from the vampire's grip, punching it, grabbing it. She got herself free. I heard her blasting yell and from the rearview mirror, I saw a man fall off the Tesla and into the cold asphalt of the highway. Jessy had killed the vampire. I sped the car into where the streetlights were finally turned on. The Tesla was almost under it when a man walked right below the dome of the light. He lifted his arm in the air and fire erupted in a horizontal barrier across the road. I stepped on the brakes and the speeding Tesla came into a full and abrupt stop, causing Jessy to get thrown into the air and hit the ground hard. "Jessy!" I hurried out of the car and rushed to her aid. I grabbed her by the shoulder. "Are you okay?" She grunted and shove my hand away. I touched something wet. Blood. Now we're both bleeding. Infront of us, the man who caused the fire slowly stepped closer towards us. He had blond hair; ghostly-white skin; fierce, deep blue eyes; and has his fair share of beard. A smug smile appeared on his face. Jessy slowly got up from the ground, holding her wounded shoulder. "Victor Valerious." She spat the words with distaste. The man looked strong and dangerous. How was he able to shoot fire from the ground remained a wonder to me. . . but it turns out I no longer wanted to know. The man Jessy called Victor smirked, revealing sharp fangs. "We meet again, Hannah Worthington," he said. "Small world, is it not?" My face muddled while staring at Victor and slowly turned my face to Jessy. "Did he just called you Hannah?" I squeaked. She didn't respond and kept her blue eyes on the Victor guy. Two blades materialized on the back of his wrists. Two vampires emerged into the light behind him, fangs bared and ready to turn us to shreds. Two more appeared until there were a dozen of them. These folks were different from Victor. They have dark eyes. "Uh, Jessy?" Ignoring me, Jessy pulled two daggers from her sidepockets. Victor infront of us didn't deem this as a threat. He chuckled like he was already a winner in this game of blades. Jessy remained firm on her feet despite her bleeding shoulder and her shivering sidekick (unfornately, that's me). "Do not make me do this hard for you, Hannah. You are alone." "Excuse me? She's not alone!" I should be cowering in tears like most scared fellow do but I had this inner urge to act like a threat even if don't really look like one. I wanted to help Jessy or Hannah or whatever her name is defeat the enemy. Though I clearly had no idea how I'm gonna be able to do that.
