“This thing is huge.” I held up my hands as his hood draped over me. I looked like I was wearing a dress.
“You should’ve let me choose.” Blake said as we stood outside Jamie’s house.
“It looks hilarious.” Jake tried not to laugh. “She’s swimming in it.”
“I’m not wearing this.” I said pulling it off. “It’s too hot.” I looked at Blake’s glaring expression and shoved the hoodie into his arms.
“Ella.” He said in a flat tone.
“Why are you guys standing outside?” Jessica said as she got out of her car.
“Kelsi dressed herself and Blake is struggling.” Jake said.
“Wow!” Jessica looked me up and down. “What a babe huh?” She nudged Blake who started to growl.
“Stop that!” I said and he looked at me and pushed the hoodie to me.
“Oh my gosh. Take mine.” Jessica pulled off her small jacket and handed it to me. I put it on and Blake started to button it.
“Are you serious?” I asked and he nodded.
“Good?” Jessica asked.
“Perfect.” Blake smiled and grabbed my hand.
“Let’s get in there finally.” Jake said as we all walked into Jamie’s house.
The place was packed and oddly warm inside. One of the rooms people just danced and all I could smell was sweat. We came to another room where everyone was talking over each other and the music. Jake turned and said something to Blake. Blake nodded and Jessica walked over and grabbed my other hand.
“Come on! Let’s get something to drink!” Jessica pulled me but Blake’s grip was firm. “Blake!” She yelled and he let go. Jessica pulled me into the kitchen where it was way quieter.
“Jessica?” I heard Jamie’s voice. “And you brought her… are you trying to ruin my party?” Jamie asked and Jessica scoffed.
“I came with Blake.” I said and Jamie’s nose scrunched up.
“I was told he rejected you!” She yelled.
“By whom?” I heard behind me and Jamie froze. Blake placed a hand on my shoulder.
“Well I mean, a lot of people heard it. Um, Travis Hilliard told me.” Jamie said to Blake’s unmoving expression.
“Whatever you have heard, it’s wrong.” Blake said, pulling me away. He led me outside and I was happy with the fresh air.
“Fresh air.” I took a deep breath. Blakes attention was elsewhere and I looked over. He watched Travis talking and laughing as they entered the house through a side door.
“Stay here.” Blake said, walking off in Travis’s direction. I went to an old play area and sat on the swing. I saw Jessica come out and scan the area before heading in my direction.
“I got you a drink.” She handed it to me as she sat in the swing by me. “Where’s Blake?” Jessica looked around. I took a sip and made a disgusted face.
“What is this?” I asked.
“To be honest with you, I have no clue. I spooned it out of the punch bowl. Not surprised it’s spiked.” Jessica took a drink.
“What!?” I was shocked.
“Uh yeah Kelsi. Most of these parties are drinking and letting loose. I'm willing to bet Blake is in there right now with a drink.” Jessica said and I took a deep breath and started drinking it. “Kelsi!” She gasped.
“Oh goddess, that's disgusting.” I coughed.
“Kelsi, you shouldn’t have done that. You’re supposed to drink it slower. Drinking it that fast will make you sick.” Jessica had a worried expression.
“I’ll be fine.” I continued to drink until it was gone.
“If you get drunk, Jake is going to be so mad at me!” Jessica sighed. My body started to feel warm, really warm. Jessica started to rattle on about what she wanted to do now that school was over. She wanted to teach for the pack. I thought that was really wonderful for her.
“I mean, I’m not sure which age group I’ll be teaching if I go for it. I want to be useful to the Suncrest pack.” Jessica’a smiling face started to spin.
“Yeah, I can’t wait to go to college and do my thing.” I watched Jessica’s confused expression. “What?”
“Well, if there’s no rejection. You have to start Luna training.” Jessica said and I stared at her.
“They said he had to reject.” I said and Jessica studied my face.
“Are you drunk? How is that possible?” Jessica looked at her cup. “Oh my gosh.” She turned back. “Have you ever drank before?” She asked.
“No. I don’t party.” I said, closing my eyes so the spinning would stop.
“There you are!” I heard Jake but didn’t open my eyes.
“Hey! We were talking about after school ambitions.” Jessica's voice was too chipper for my liking.
“Shhh.” I said as I focused on breathing.
“What’s wrong? You don’t feel good?” I felt Jake’s hand on me.
“I gave her some of the punch. She drank it pretty fast.” Jessica’s voice was unsure.
“What!? Do you know how much alcohol they put in that? Travis was laughing about how it probably didn’t even taste like punch anymore!” Jake snapped.
“I’m sorry!” Jessica said. I opened my eyes and Jake’s face twirled around me.
“Are you ok?” Jake asked.
“I just can’t see.” I said and there was silence. I felt myself slip out of the swing and hit the ground.
“F*ck! My dad is going to kill us.” Jake sighed and helped me up. “How much punch did you give her!?” Jake was mad.
“Don’t be mad.” I said sadly and hugged Jake.
“Oh no. She’s an affectionate drunk?” Jake asked.
“I have no clue.” Jessica said.
“Travis said a lot of people were saying that garbage.” I heard Blake.
“Nothing!” Jessica said quickly. There was silence and I knew Blake was probably confused by her weird outburst.
“Kelsi drank the punch.” Jake said.
“WHAT!” Blake said.
“I didn’t know she didn’t drink, like ever!” Jessica seemed annoyed.
“Is ok! I’m fine.” I said as I held onto Jake more for balance than anything.
“Ella?” Blake’s hand rubbed my back.
“Mmm, yes?” I said as the warmth from his touch mixed with my warmth from the alcohol.
“I should take her home.” Blake said.
“I agree.” Jake said.
“Oh I’m sure it’ll all just wear off!” Jessica said.
“No, I’m not waiting for that to happen here. If it was just us four at the pack house or her house. Then we could wait it out. Not in front of the seniors class.” Blake said, still rubbing my back. “She hates to be embarrassed and this will be embarrassing. This could only get worse.” Blake said and I moved from Jake. I grabbed Blake’s arm and moved to hold onto him. He put his arms around me.
“Thank you, you’re sweet.” I said.
“Maybe you need to get her drunk more often?” Jessica said.
“Very funny.” Blake said as we walked along the outside of the house. I stumbled a bit trying to walk straight.
“I ruined your night.” I sighed.
“No, this party was off to a terrible start.” We got around the outside of the house to Blake’s truck.
“Jake?” I asked.
“Jessica will take him home.” Blake said as he helped me into his truck I laid against the window. So nice and cool. I felt Blake putting my buckle on and I grabbed his hand. I laid a kiss on the back of his hand.
“Thank you.” I said before letting it go. He didn’t say a word as he started his truck. I closed my eyes to not focus on the spinning. The truck stopped after a little longer drive than I thought. I opened my eyes and could see the pack house. My door opened and Blake helped me out.
“Come on, easy.” He said as I slowly slid into his arms.
“This isn’t home.” I said looking out as Blake carried me inside.
“Shhh, I don’t think I could leave you alone and feel good about it.” Blake whispered. I laid my head on him as we climbed the stairs. I opened them again when Blake opened the door. I looked around but couldn’t really register anything. Blake placed me on the bed and I started pulling the coat off. I didn’t pay attention to what Blake was doing as I tossed the jacket across the room. I started to take my tight pants off.
“Ella!” Blake picked up the jacket and came over. I noticed he was in pajama pants.
“I can’t sleep in these tight pants.” I said pulling them off. I moved the blanket and got under the covers. I sat there waiting, watching Blake as he looked worried. “Come on.” I said and Blake sighed. He got into the bed and I laid my head on his chest.
“This feels like a bad idea.” Blake rubbed my back.
