“When will you be back?” I asked Amy as she packed her purse.
“I’m not sure. When Rayna says we’re done I suppose.” Amy looked at me.
“I didn’t know Dad and Jake were going out today!” I said moving my cereal around in the bowl.
“Oh they won’t be gone long.” Amy said, slinging her purse over her shoulder.
“I’ll just lock the doors after you go.” I got up and put my bowl in the sink.
“Kelsi, I wanted to talk about something.” Amy seemed uncomfortable.
“What?” I asked as we walked to the door.
“Well, I know we’ve talked about mate bonds. I just want to make sure…” She looked at my face as it grew into disgust. “Nevermind. There’s no way you’re both, um, expressing love.” Amy said with a smile.
“No. We aren’t expressing love.” I crossed my arms.
“Ok, I’ll text you when I’m on my way home.” Amy opened the door and the moment it shut, I locked it. I went into the living room and settled down with my book.
After a while I looked at the clock surprised I hadn’t had any interruptions. Was this part of the game Blake mentioned? To make me wonder when and if he was going to show. Oh well, it wasn’t worth worrying about. I stood to make lunch when I heard the door. I waited as Jake appeared.
“Hey.” He said coming in and sitting in Parker’s favorite chair.
“Hey, where’s dad?” I asked.
“He got called to the pack house. I guess they spotted some rouges nearby.” Jake sighed and reached for the remote.
“I was just about to make lunch. Are you hungry?” I asked.
“Starving.” Jake said as he scrolled channels. I walked past him into the kitchen. I started making some simple noodles. Jake came and sat at the island.
“Thought you were watching your show.” I said. I heard the squeaky chair and looked at him.
“I’ve been curious what happened when we all left yesterday. Dad wouldn’t say anything other than Blake refused to reject.” Jake said as I halved the noddles between bowls.
“Just that. They wanted to see how we interacted. Alpha Caleb saw I have some kind of immunity to the mate bond. Honestly it has me curious why that is. It’s not something I can simply look up on the internet.” I said pushing the bowl to Jake.
“Maybe dad knows something.” Jake pushed his noodles around.
“You ok?” I asked before twirling my noodles on my fork.
“I’m not sure. They say the moon goddess chooses your mate. If that was the case, then why you and Blake? I mean, Blake of all people!” Jake looked at me.
“I wish I had an answer. I don’t know, that's the best answer I have.” I said looking down at my bowl. “Why won’t he reject me?” I asked.
“Your guess is as good as mine. I feel like it’s the mate bond making him different.” Jake started to eat normally.
“I’m actually shocked he’s not here today.” I said finishing my meal.
“Oh yeah? You miss him?” Jake laughed.
“No! I was alone here for a few hours, completely uninterrupted. The past few days he’s ruined that.” I said before making my way to my room.
Later I got a message that Amy was bringing home dinner. I got up and went down stairs and started setting the table. Jake came in and saw what I was doing.
“Amy is on her way?” Jake asked and I nodded. “What did she get for dinner?” Jake asked.
“I have no clue.” I said back when the door opened. I sighed as I heard Amy talking and Blake laughing. She walked in with a bucket of chicken.
“Already set!” Amy smiled at my handy work.
“You said you were bringing home dinner, not someone for dinner.” I said.
“I didn’t bring him, he was pulling up when I was.” Amy said as she took everything out and set it up. I could hear Blake and Jake talking about the rogue cleaning.
“Dad’s not coming home tonight?” I asked.
“Probably not sweetheart.” Amy gave me a thoughtful look. She always did this when Parker didn’t come home. Trying to make us feel better that he was out doing something dangerous.
“Look! You set a place for me.”
“I didn’t know dad wouldn’t be here.” I said. I watched as Blake came over to me. Everyone got very quiet as his face got close to mine. I grabbed onto his shirt and just watched as he smiled. Then he walked past me, he went to where my dad sits and sat down. I felt confused as I took my normal seat. I didn’t look up, feeling like everyone’s eyes were on me.
“So Blake! What brings you here?” Amy asked, serving herself first.
“I wanted to update Jake on stuff and of course to see my girlfriend.” Blake said and the table got quiet.
“I’m not your girlfriend.” I whispered and his smile grew. Jake looked at Amy who in return looked at me. My face was flushed from the embarrassment.
“That’s nice.” Amy said with this unsure feeling to her voice. Everyone started to eat, but I felt it was difficult when everyone was watching me.
“Can you guys not watch me please?” I said without looking up.
“She doesn’t like it when people watch her.” Blake said and I grew annoyed that he would answer for me.
“I’m going to finish eating in the living room.” Jake grabbed his plate.
“Take napkins! Don’t get my furniture disgusting please!” Amy yelled after him. “Well, I am done also. Kelsi, make sure you put together a plate for Dad in case he gets back tonight?” Amy asked as she gathered her stuff. This was about the time where she got dressed for bed and spent the rest of the night panicking in her room, wondering if he was ok.
“Of course.” I said as she gave a weak smile and exited. Soon I realized it was just us. Blake rested his chin on his palm as I pushed food around my plate. I dropped my fork and looked at him. “What?” I said.
“Did you want me to kiss you earlier?” He asked and my face flushed.
“No! Of course not.” I stood up and grabbed my plate. Blake reached over grabbing my free hand.
“You’re saying one thing, but your face says something completely different.” Blake held my hand tight as he stood. He got close to me, leaning down to smell my hair.
“This is uncomfortable!” I said dropping the plate back on the table. Blake’s face got close to mine.
“I want you to ask for it.” He whispered.
“I-in your dreams!” I stammered and he pressed his cheek against mine. I couldn’t take this closeness, and I started to push on him. This was his game, to make me want it or beg for it. “You can stop now! I’m not going to kiss you!” As the words left my lips, his face moved closer to mine, his lips inches away.
‘You don’t want it.’ I told myself. ‘You don’t need him.’ I reminded myself.
“You want me to kiss you so badly. I can see it on your face.” Blake whispered against my lips. I didn’t have a reply, I was busy fighting myself to not kiss him.
“I hate you.” I said pushing myself that inch so our lips touched. Blake’s hungry arms wrapped around me. I heard the dishes rattle as he pushed me against the table. I couldn’t help but want this new amazing feeling everytime our lips locked and our tongues danced.
“Oh goddess, this is disgusting. I thought you said you wouldn’t do this at my house?” I heard Jake and we quickly parted ways.
“Well she kissed me this time.” Blake said, standing back.
“I did not!” I pushed past him.
“I really don’t care who started kissing who.” Jake dropped his plate on the table and left. I turned to Blake and glared at him.
“You did kiss me first.” He said.
