Chapter 16 - Lucky.

I came down ready for school. I heard everyone laughing and talking. I went into the kitchen and got an easy breakfast, just a juice and granola bar. I closed the fridge and felt Blake hug me from behind. “Good morning.” He said, placing a kiss on my head. I wiggled out of his embrace. “Really?” He said as I walked to my bag. “Good morning.” I said to Jake while grabbing my bag. “Ready?” Jake walked out of the living room. “Kelsi can ride with me this morning.” Blake said and Jake looked at me. “I always ride with Jake.” I said and Jake shrugged. “Do whatever you want.” Jake walked past me and out the door. “I’m guessing Jake isn’t a fan of change.” Parker said as he poked his head out. “I guess, let’s go.” I said walking out of the house. Blake and I pulled up to the school and Jake was already gone. I tried to ignore Blake’s outstretched hand as he cleared his throat progressively louder. “ELLA!” He said in a demanding tone that caused me to pause. “Come on Blake.” I stopped and looked at him. He began to furrow his brow. “No.” I said and he stepped to me. “Hold my hand.” He demanded. “Blake.” I stared at him as he pushed his hand to me. I signed and grabbed it. “You’ll stop rejecting my hand from now on.” Blake said as we continued to walk. “You telling me what to do makes me so angry.” I hated how he treated me like a child that needed his hand to cross the street. We walked into the school and were quickly stopped by Jamie Chess. She was just as popular as Blake was, but only for her looks and not for being smart or anything. She had bleach blonde hair, blue eyes, and a long face. All of her features were perfectly placed and her chest was well endowed. I always thought that was the reason for her popularity. She was Jessica’s best friend until recently. No one knew what was behind the break up, but some speculated it has something to do with becoming mates to the Alpha. What a dream for someone who wasn’t very smart. Would Alpha Caleb have allowed it? I wondered as I watched her stare at Blake with a goofy smile on her face. I gripped Blake’s hand a little tighter as she fawned over him. “Yes?” Blake finally broke the growing silence. “Oh Blake! You’re coming to my party right?” Jamie played with her hands as she shifted between feet. “We’ll be there.” Blake said and Jamie smiled wide. “Awesome! I can’t wait to see you and Jake there!” She said as she ran off. “B*tch.” I whispered. “Ella!” Blake gasped. “She’s only hoping you and Jake show up.” I said walking towards class. “That’s not true, I said we.” Blake followed with our hands firmly clasped. “Yeah? She said Jake. I can’t wait to see you and Jake. That’s what she said.” I said getting to the class and turning to him. “I don’t remember.” Blake said. “It happened three seconds ago and you can’t remember?” I asked, staring at him. “You squeezed my hand and it was all I could think about.” Blake smiled. “Ugh, I’m going to class.” I took a step and wiggled my arm. “You can let go now.” “What about my goodbye kiss?” Blake said and I glared. “Come on, kiss me goodbye.” Blake leaned down to me. “You! Ugh” I gave him a quick peck as he dropped my hand. “Bye Ella, have a good day.” Blake laughed. I walked to my seat and sat. Harry sat down next to me. “You know, you really don’t seem like a person waiting on a rejection.” Harry laughed. “I told you, he’s playing some sick game.” I said, sighing and then realizing I forgot my science book. “We’ll just share.” Harry slid his book between us. I came out for lunch and wasn’t surprised to see Blake waiting. I walked up and grabbed his hand. “Wow, I didn’t have to ask.” Blake said with a smile. “I don’t know if you know this, but you don’t ask, you demand.” I said as we walked into the cafeteria. Jake stood there next to Jessica talking. He saw me and walked up. “You left your lunch at home. Amy dropped it off with me.” Jake handed it to me. “Thanks Jake!” I looked at Blake who still had a firm grasp of my hand. “Get your lunch and we’ll see you at the table.” I said and he slightly pulled me. “No, I want you to come with me.” Blake said and I heard Jake scoff. “You can be without her for five minutes. Aren’t you an alpha?” Jake said, his voice dripping with annoyance. “Yes, and I want to spend every moment with my girlfriend. What’s wrong with that?” Blake replied in an angry tone. “She’s not your girlfriend.” Jake said before turning and walking away. Blake dropped my hand and followed Jake out of the cafeteria. “Jake is over this.” Jessica said as she also watched them. “I’ve noticed. I think he’s upset that he’s lost his best friend’s attention.” I said as we walked to an open table. “I heard you’re planning to go to Jamie’s party.” Jessica changed the subject. “Jake wants Blake to be there and he won’t go without me.” I unwrapped my lunch. “I know, Jake told me. You know that Jamie is going to be all over Blake?” Jessica asked. “I don’t care.” I said eating. “Yeah right! Even Jake doesn’t think that’s true anymore.” Jessica watched me. “Alpha and my father agreed. Blake is supposed to reject me.” I said keeping eye contact with Jessica. “You should’ve seen the look on Blake’s face when we didn't bond.” Jessica said. “Ok?” I went back to eating. “He was so relieved. Jake made a joke that it was probably Jamie. I hate that I ruined a friendship over the hope that I got to be with Blake. That I would be Luna.” Jessica said as she continued to watch me. “Is this supposed to make me feel guilty?” I was growing annoyed. “I understand, everyone loves Blake.” “I’m not trying to make you feel guilty. I’m trying to show you how lucky you are!” She made a face and looked back at me. “Why the moon goddess chose you, is beyond me.” Jessica stood up and left.
