Chapter One: Prologue
"Absolutely not!", my mother screamed at the doctor, pulling her baby closer to her breast to suckle.
"Doctor, we've been trying to have her for eight years. There's no way...", my father started off.
"I said what I said, Alpha; you should just put that thing down. It'll only make the clan look weak," said the doctor.
"I have half a mind to banish you from the clan, Doctor. Speaking to the firstborn daughter of your Alpha in such a way. You ought to be ashamed," father yelled back.
Mother attempted to take a swing at the doctor, but was far too weak from having just given birth. She sighed something about not wanting to fight in front of the baby anyway. The doctor grumbled to himself and stormed out of the room, leaving them alone with their newborn baby girl.
Mother waited until the baby finished drinking, then lifted her to present her to father; father bent down and kissed the baby on her forehead, and the two looked into the newborn cub's gray, cloudy eyes for what felt like an eternity. They did not care that their firstborn was blind, they were just delighted to finally be parents.
At least that's the story I've always been told of my birth.
