OVERHEARD
That night, Shea tossed and turned. The plastic cover over the mattress rustled and crinkled every time she shifted or rolled over, like the sound of water trapped in her ear canal after swimming.
She woke in the middle of the night with her leg burning and her knee throbbing. The aspirin she’d taken before bed hadn’t helped at all.
Making matters worse, her brain wouldn’t shut off. She kept replaying her conversations with Toni, Robyn, and Indigo, contrasting them with what Megan and Linda had told her.
