Connie Brady’s phone rang at two in the morning. Not that she was asleep with everything going on. One glance at the caller ID and she cursed. Roberta Potter. Her world was collapsing around her, but if she didn’t answer, it would do so faster, and the consequences would be more dire.
“Connie Brady,” she said, pretending not to know who was on the other end.
“Con, it’s ASAC Potter. Sorry for the hour. But what the hell’s going on up there? My contact at Sedona PD’s saying they’ve got a woman from your camp who’s making all kinds of accusations, including rumors that NCB is planning to implement Operation Fresh Start. I’ve already got agents investigating your organization for credit card fraud. Something about a Bethany Vargas whose body turned up. Is this true? Is Fresh Start a go?”
