Chapter 3: EREBUS

1442 Words
I felt sick while I was being teleported to the island. This is my first time being teleported and it feels so terrible. After a few minutes, I felt the ground. Fear started to consume me thinking that I arrived on the island of Erebus. I confirmed that I arrived when I saw three unfamiliar faces looking at me. "Hey there young lady! We are the Lorcan Family. My name is Sian, I am the head of Kavans on this island. Welcome to Erebus dear!" A man with a well-built body greeted me. He was standing next to a gorgeous woman that is smaller than him. It felt weird being greeted so cheerfully when you are in a prison. And I haven't even lasted a minute here but I think like a ling time prisoner. Sheesh! The lady extended her hand to me, I shyly put my hands on top of hers and she helped me get down on the platform. "Don't be shy dear! Are you hungry? Of course you are! Come with us. We prepared something, specially prepared for you!" I hesitated thinking that it will be my last meal. Pretty much the same in Elletra, the platform is circular, embossed, and protected by a laser beam. I know because I saw the laser appeared after the man took out the from a keyhole in the ground. The platform is not in the middle, it was surrounded by pointy rocks. I think it is for extra protection in case one of the prisoners tries to escape. "We are currently in the south part of the island and this place is just right behind the palace where we live" Both the older ones are right beside me while the other one just followed right behind us. After a couple of minutes of walking, I saw the palace he was talking about. It is a black-blue-ish colored place, it's scary alright. I wonder if that's where they keep all their prisoner. I hope the bed's comfortable and the foods are free. We are all sitting at a long dining table with foods in front of us p. The Kavans leader sits in the center of the table, in his right are the lady and the boy who sits across from me. The lady motioned me to eat, so I did. I ate a lot since I didn't get to eat last night. I ate my whole heart out not minding the three persons with me. When I was done eating, I noticed that they were done before me. I must have eaten a lot. The Kavan leader straightened his back and faced me. "Well, since your done eating, let me explain to you how things work around here. I will explain everything tou need to know. Ain't that great? Let me start, Erebus is part of the world Elletra, it is an island so special that there's only one way through and out of it. Basically, Erebus is where all the prisoners spent their life after one of their relatives committed a crime. One rule! To provide for what you need, you must work. It means you need to work for your food, clothes and the place you'll be staying. If you don't then no food, clothes and shelter. Simple. Right? We will not pay you money but you will work, in exchange for your needs. Don't worry you won't work all for the whole 24 hours. Only 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. And most importantly, you will have a cellmate. Don't worry cells in here aren't like the ones in the court dungeon. In here, cells are pretty much like a regular-sized house perfect for two prisoners. And mind telling you that there is no saying no to who your cellmate is. Your cellmate is YOUR cellmate, like it or hate, you have no choice. All you need to ALWAYS remember is to WORK and LIVE. Ahh! One more thing! Getting in trouble means 15 hours of work for the whole week. Hear me? You better not cause any trouble, dear. Or else!" He explained all at once. I bet that was tiring. I got scared because of what he said. I was never the troublesome type, but I got scared for my life. I learned fighting skills because of my dad. He wants me to learn how to protect myself from people who want to hurt me, the training was hard, really hard but I think working is harder. I never worked before, how am I gonna survive. And what is that work anyway? "What work? I said in a low voice but still making sure he will hear me. "Well, there are several options" "What options?" "There's the mining, logging, castle maid, island maintenance worker, and last but not the least is machine maintenance. You choose" My face fell hearing all the options. There's nothing I can do! What will I choose? "Oh! I almost forgot!" I felt hopeful all of a sudden. "There's the cooking maid. They prepare all the food we eat on this island. How does that sound? Great?" All my hopes washed away. I can't cook. I only know how to eat and I am pretty good at it. "Dad there's one more option, say it!" I was stunned for a moment, the deep baritone voice from who I think is the Kavans leader's son spoke for the first time. I looked at the leader one more time, hoping to finally find my work! I hope it's this one. "Shut up, son! She is a lady! She can't do that. So what did you choose dear?" he said asking me about my decision. He didn't even tell what was the last option. "What's the last option? I want to hear it!" I demanded. I have no choice but to hear it. Maybe it's the one for me. "Well, if you insist. This is a work where only 3 prisoners participated. And they are all boys. Still want to hear it?" "Yes!" I firmly answered. I really want to hear it. I'm curiously and all. "Before working, you need to train first. And if you pass, you'll start working and failure means choose another work" Training? Is this the kind of training that I know and do? "It's becoming a Kavan" The words dropped like a bomb in my mind. Kavan? I will train to become a Kavan? Does this mean I can get out of here if I pass? I can see father again? "If your thinking you will be a Kavan in Elletra, drop it! Kavans who trains in here, works in here. Sending a Kavan to Elletra is almost impossible. Elletra has more than enough numbers of Kavans on there. So you decision is?" " I want to be a Kavan!" I have to try and besides, that's all I know how to do. I can't cook, clean, mine, or fix machines. That's the closest thing I know I can do. I think the things I learned from Elletra will be of help. I hope so. "Are you sure?" asked the leader. I saw the son smirking at my decision. "Yes!" "Okay then" We went out of the palace but this time were heading in front, not to the back where the portal is. A car was waiting for us, while heading there, I saw a hologram plastered in the dark sky. Its says 'Hour 12. Day 6. Month 1. Year 20' It's the time and date. All four of us went inside the car. The leader is driving with his wife sitting in the passenger seat. While the son is sitting on my left side at the back of the driver's seat. It's true that the cells are like an average-sized house that can fit 2 prisoners. They also have cell numbers written on the door. All cells look the same. We stopped in front of Cell 8. "You can go out now. Your cellmate is currently working. By the way, you will start working tomorrow. You will work from hour 10 to hour 18l got it?" the leader said before I came down from the car. As I stepped out, I heard the lady call me. "We forgot to tell you our name dear. My name is Cassie Lorcan, my husband is Costian Lorcan and my son's name is --" She got cut off when her son shouted 'Let's go' to the leader. The leader started the engine and before stomping on the gas he shouted "Dear! I forgot to tell you that... ITS ALWAYS DARK IN HERE!"
