CHAPTER FIVE

1207 Words
24th of April 2013. Two days to the explosion. Max was referring to the previous day when he and Stanley decided to cool off at a nearby Chinese restaurant. For the music more so than the food that was served there. Max was sharing with his friend Stanley his amazement at how so many people seem to think that his new technology the artificial space was not going to work out and that someone was even willing to go as far as faking an identity to warn him of it. The restaurant was cool and it was a fine evening and the men sat there talking freely when suddenly two men got off the edge with one another and started throwing punches at themselves. Surprisingly, the cause of their outrage was the new technology – the artificial space that was just two days away from greeting the dawn. One of the men was of the opinion that the tech was going to be a huge success and all would appreciate the genius of the man who was behind the project. This line of reasoning really got to the man who had been sitting all by himself in the restaurant and seemed to be observing everyone. He got up almost immediately and hurled himself towards the direction of the man who was appraising the building of the artificial space. There was a short and loud argument between the two men and before the security at the restaurant could get there and intervene, some punches have already been delivered. The two men were thrown out of the restaurant and the man’s plan was taking shape when he saw through the window of the restaurant that the two men whom he had been watching closely, were also stepping out of the restaurant. “One at a time” he said to himself and got into position with the CEO of frost-bane as his first mark. “It has been a long day buddy and I so much want to get home to clear my head” Stanley said. “Sure thing.” His friend nodded in agreement and the men parted ways. Max got into his car and ignited the engine but it did not respond and just as he wondered what could be the problem, he heard a distinctly familiar voice “I have a g*n to your head make any sudden movement and you are a dead man.” “What do you want” Max asked. “I just want to ask you a few questions.” “Oh I see, a ‘few questions’ coming from a man who has broken into my car and pointed a g*n to my head. Are you out of your mind? You will most certainly regret this.” The CEO of frost-bane was threatening. “I would take it easy if I were you Mr. Max Dean.” The man who had taken Max hostage in his own car warned him. “Do you really believe that you and your group at frost-bane would be able to pull the stuff you are planning? I mean the artificial space.” “Yes sir” Max said with a note of mockery. “Without a shred of doubt I absolutely believe that the artificial space would definitely see the light of day and would be a delight to the hearts of men. Now can you get out of my car?” “I am glad that you are not scared or terrified with the fact that I can end your life right here and now or at least you are not showing it. it’s impressive I must admit. Now Mr. Max, are you aware of a premonition that has somewhat gone viral that you are going to destroy the world with the launching of your artificial space?” “Oh yes I am well aware of that” Max said. “And what level of thought have you given to that premonition coming from not just one person.” The man said. “Well, I see the premonition as the state of mind of mediocre individuals who have failed to see progress but doom in the endeavours of clear minded and insightful people like myself.” Max fired at the man pointing a g*n to his head. “So you do not see any chance that you could destroy the world when you launch your artificial space?” The man asked sincerely. “No I don’t” Max answered rudely. “In that case, I do not have much time so I will go straight to the point. If you do not stop the project of your own accord, you would be made to stop it and I assure you, that you will not exactly enjoy the measures that would be employed to that end.” The man told him. “Young man you have gotten yourself into serious trouble because I would see to it that you go down for this. You broke into my car with a g*n and held men hostage in my own car for close to thirty minutes to tell me to give up my major achievement as CEO of frost-bane technologies, you must be mad. Yes I dare to say it again, you are a mad man.” Max has had enough and he was clearly not taking any more from the man whoever he thinks he is. “If you do not stop, you would be stopped at all costs.” The man repeated and mentioned something that Max had dreaded since the start of their conversation. “You have a beautiful family. I wouldn’t throw that away if I were you for some doomed invention.” “If you go anywhere near my daughter I would find you and mess you up, you hear me?” By this   time, the man had stepped down and was walking away from Max’s car then stopped and walked towards the car and said to the CEO of frost-bane. “Wow! I never knew you had a daughter.” And he walked away. Max looked at him with so much hatred, he must have felt it. After his meeting with the CEO of frost-bane tech, Lucas went over to his best friend Stanley and had a similar discourse in a similar scene but Stanley had gotten out of his car to see a strange man waving at him only to be taken and held at gunpoint. This time, Lucas threatened that Mr. Stanley should warn his friend or his house would be burnt down along with everyone inside before the launching of the artificial space. “Maybe that would serve as a lesson to frost-bane’s CEO” Scott had told Stanley and after he left, Stanley got into his car immediately and ‘flew’ to his friend’s house who was already walking around his own house with a Pistol. Max and Stanley agreed to tighten security in and around frost-bane technologies until the launching of their invention. As regards the burning of his house, Stanley resolved to let the police know that he has reasons to believe that someone was threatening to burn down his house. But for whatever reason, the men did not disclose to anyone that their invention was being greeted with opposition from ‘insane’ individuals. They thought they could contain the threat and they also thought that Scott who did not introduce himself to either of them and Jack were in league but how wrong they were.
