I took a deep breath calming my nerves, I looked myself over in the mirror and headed out of the kitchen. My dad pulled open the front door and greeted our guests. The middle aged woman Maya was wearing a blue suit and was holding a box of Indian sweets. She handed them to my mom and embraced her, the man behind her was her husband Rajeev. He and my dad had been friends for years.
I smiled at them and hugged them both, “Rosie this is Maya and Rajeev’s son Rishi. Rishi this is my daughter Rosie” he smiled at me and handed me some flowers. I smiled and thanked him. They all sat down in the living room and started chatting. I took this moment to study Rishi.
He was tall, very tall, his black hair was in a little man bun at the back of his head. His eyes were a dark brown almost black colour. His beard was full and connected well, facial hair was a thing I loved in men. He was wearing black trousers and a white shirt, his broad shoulders stretched the fabric around his arms. He caught me looking and gave me a small smirk.
I turned towards his parents and started talking to them.
Rishi POV
We walked into the house and instantly my eyes found her, she was stunning. Her pink suit was simple, the floral chuni was pinned on her shoulder and fell down her arm. Her hair fell softly around her shoulders. She wasn’t wearing much make up, which I liked in a girl. I am a simple guy and I like my girls simple too. She was short much shorter than me, I smiled at her and handed her the flowers. She smiled and thanked me, I think she might be my one.
Rosie POV
After everyone ate some snacks I started picking up the dishes. Rishi grabbed some plates to help me.
“Its fine don’t worry I can do it” I smiled
“It’s fine I’ll help” he picked up some plates and we walked to the kitchen. I set them down and so did he and he looked around.
“Wow your kitchen is huge” I smiled looking around
“Yeah dad had it rebuilt, it’s my favorite room in the house” I loved cooking so much.
“Your mom mentioned you made all the food today, it was really good thank you” I smiled at him and he handed me the plates to put into the dishwasher. Once we finished we walked outside and sat on the chair swing.
“So tell me a bit about yourself” he spoke. His voice was so deep
“What do you want to know?”
“Anything you want to tell me” he smiled his dimples showing.
“Okay, so I’m 24 I graduated when I was 21 in bakery and patisserie technology. I now own a little bakery near Birmingham. There isn’t much else to know really, I’m just a simple girl looking to settle down” his eyes were trained on me a small smile on his lips. “Your turn” I smiled.
“Well I’m 26, I’m a lawyer, I graduated when I was 21 did my masters now I work in a Law firm as a partner. I haven’t had time to focus on relationships, I was always too busy with work. But now I’m happy where I am I want to settle down. I was also going to say that you look beautiful” I smiled at his complement but my heart sank when he said he was a lawyer. I know where this road goes.
“So do you have a type?” he asked snapping me out of my thoughts.
“No, not really. I’m more of a personality first kind of girl. Looks fade personality doesn’t. I just want someone who will keep me happy and that I can keep happy. Someone who wants a family, who wants children. Someone who just wants a simple life” I look up at him and he smiles.
“Me too, I just want a simple life with a girl I can love to grow and build a family. I am a very family orientated guy I love my family”
“So am I family means everything to me, my family is very big” I laughed it was true I had a huge family.
His phone rang and he scowled down at his phone. “I’m so sorry I have to take this” I smiled and he excused himself. He walked away talking on his phone, his voice full of power, it was a bit intimidating. He seemed like a lovely guy so I was sure he would say no to this marriage proposal. He walked back over and sat next to me again.
“Sorry, I’m working on a really complex case at the moment its sucking the life out of me”
“Aw it must be hard”
“Sometimes but it’s rewarding too” he stood up taking my hand pulling me with him and he laughed.
“How tall are you?” he laughed at me
“5’4 what about you” he smirked his dimples deepening.
“6’3 nearly a whole foot taller than you” he smiled and we walked inside. I gave him a little tour and we carried on talking for another hour or so before my mum called us. Rishi kept glancing at me the whole time.
I made dinner and Rishi was sat at the dining table watching me in the kitchen. Everyone ate and chatted and my heart felt a bit heavy. I didn’t want to get happy I knew how this would end.
I poured the dessert and handed bowls out to everyone, it was just a simple cheesecake. I finished my bowl and Rishi came over to me.
“Could I have some more cheesecake is my favorite, I think you just won my heart already” he laughed. I gave him another slice and he smiled eating it.
