The Proposal

Luciano's POV I was happy when mom told me she'll be coming over today. I'd worn my favorite clothes to impress her. Mom had always said I look attractive no matter what I put on, but I still dressed to impress her. We've been best friends since I can remember. She doesn't come over often and neither do I, so when we see it makes me very happy and makes me want to do anything to make her smile. I'm currently at the garden looking for a pretty flower to give to her. When I found one I run to my mom. "Mom, look at what I found". I ran to my mother with a flower in my hand "and I'll be giving it to Scarlet". "A beautiful flower for a beautiful girl"mom said. "Yeah and after giving the flower to her I'll ask her to marry me and we'll be happy together" She chuckled softly. "Why don't we go inside and have dinner" ************ I waited for her but didn't see her. "Mom, would I see her today, tell me she's coming". I said, sadness evident in my voice. "I'm sure she will, don't worry love" Mom says patting my hair and giving me a kiss. Some minutes pass by until I hear the doorbell ring. I rushed to the door hoping to see Scarlet but disappoinment floods me when I see only Uncle Massimo, Scarlet's dad. "Where's she?" I asked Uncle Massimo while poking my head out the door to look for her but don't find her. "I'm sorry boy, she won't be able to make it today, maybe some other day".He says making his way into the house. "Mom said she would be here, why isn't she hear?" I ask as tears stream down my face. Uncle Massimo crouches in front of me, wiping my tears and uttering the word "big boys don't cry" before getting up and going to greet my parents. I dry my eyes as I mutter to myself maybe some other time. ************** My parents and Uncle Massimo talked about business during dinner. They laughed when something funny was said. Sometimes I didn't understand why they were laughing, I didn't get their jokes. I'd sometimes make a face if they laughed at something I couldn't understand. I sat at the table silently eating, still sad I didn't get to see her today. I'm bored, it's boring without having Scarlet here. I miss her so much. Does she miss me? *********** Dinner's over quickly and Uncle Massimo stands up, getting ready to leave. "Promise me she'll be here next time you come visit" I say holding his hand. "Sure thing boy, I promise to bring your Scarlet when next I come" he says letting go of my hand. Before he walks out he turns around and tells me "she misses you". Hearing that made me feel a little better. Scarlet misses me as much as I miss her. After dinner, mom followed me to my room to tuck me in my bed. "Good night baby" she says placing a kiss on my head and walking out of my room. Just as I tried closing my eyes to sleep, I heard the sound of gunshots and screams. I ran out to look for my mom but I saw her lifeless body on our marble floor and I saw Uncle Massimo pointing a gun to my father's head. I couldn't move or say a word, my vision became blurry, he pulled the trigger and my father's body dropped to the floor with a hole in his head. He's dead and uncle Massimo killed him, I saw him coming close to me and then black out.
