Chapter 1
/ Aurora Malstov
I know I shouldn't do that. It's f*******n, unspoken, frowned upon. Yet, I was standing in front of the elder chest, about to flick my wand into opening it. I didn't know if I had the power to do that or not. But it doesn't hurt trying, right? I can just cast a sweet little opening spell and gather all the energy this tiny but very powerful chest has to provide. I was contemplating whether what I was doing was right or not when Malina stood quietly beside me, watching me, judging me. She knew what I was thinking.
"You really have to do this? Standing in front of this doomed chest every day and thinking about ruining your life!"
"Shhh! What are you doing, woman?! You will wake every witch and wizard in the castle with your shrieking voice! And don't ever use that voice on me again", Malina straightened. She knew I didn't like being disrespected. She knew I didn't like my authority, my decisions questioned. Yet she was still doing that.
"You know what I mean by that--" I was not concerned with her explanations. She was a comrade, a powerful witch, an asset to our coven and a dear friend of mine. Still, I stand above her, in terms of ranking, title, power and stupidity. She was right. What was I doing here? Why do I always come here and stand like a ghost in front of the mythical chest, wanting to open it every damn time, when I know that I can't. I sighed, I was getting worked up and I didn't like that.
"Let's just get out of here Malina, my daily session of craziness is over. We should get back to our duties". She understood my words, maybe even me. Who was I kidding? No one understood me or how I operated. Sometimes, even me.
Malina started walking in front of me and exited the cold damp room after giving me a final nod. I watched her back as she glided out of the dimly lit room with grace in her long cherry-red cloak. She was beautiful. Etheral is the word I would like to use. I, too, made my way out after giving a last glance at the chest, which was slightly bigger than a middle-sized box, decorated with intricate gold designs and gems.
If it was money I was after, the embellishments on the outside of the chest were more than enough to support my future generations. But, unfortunately, it was the inside which I was after. Even so, I was not quite sure what I would find there. But what I knew was that I will open it one day and I have a feeling that it will be done sooner than later.
