That Fateful Night
*Trigger-graphic scenes of an accident*
Thalia POV:
All my life, all I wanted was to be loved. All the families that I have ever had were always way too willing to pawn me off onto someone else. When I finally married the man of my dreams, I thought that nothing could have ever been better. My husband Percy was all the things that a girl could have ever wanted. He loved me with all of his heart and made sure that my past was never what defined me. I worked as a barista at a Starbucks and loved life there. All my regulars were the best and always knew that when I worked they were in for a comedy show and a good song that was soothing to their souls. However, everything changed that one September night when I decided that I wanted to do some doordash to earn some more money. I was on my way back from delivering an order to a beautiful gated community out in the middle of nowhere. I was really excited about the fact that the guy that I delivered to had given me a $40 cash tip just for being one of the few drivers that were willing to come all the way out here. I texted Percy letting him know that I was done for the night and that I was going to take the long way home so that I could enjoy this quiet, cool evening, since there was no way my brain would shut off for the night.
As I started to drive home, I noticed that there was a car that seemed to be having trouble staying on the road and prayed that the i***t in the other car was not drunk and that I would be ok. As I continued on my way, I didn't see the second car that was racing the first car and that was when everything was flipped upside down. As my car was rolling down the ravine, the last thing that I remember was being bounced around until I hit the tree so hard that one of its branches broke off into my windshield and stabbed me close to my heart. As I lost consciousness, I saw a man running up to me in just a pair of basketball shorts yelling at me to stay awake. The last thought I had before I succumbed to the darkness was that I wished my favorite stories of werewolves were true, because this man looked just like one. Hello darkness. Here I come.
Johnathan's POV:
When I got the word from the border patrol that a human Doordasher had been in an accident on our packland, I grabbed my son Leo and raced over to where the men had seen the accident. As we pulled up in Leo's Blue F250, I saw that the accident was way worse than the warriors had led me to believe. Some of the warriors were waiting on the edge of the ravine waiting for us to arrive with their heads held down. Glaring at the lead warrior on duty, I snapped at him, "What the Hell happened here, Rory? You told me that it was a small accident! Her car is totally destroyed, and I don't see her outside of it!" Rory looked at me with a sorrowful look that scared me. "I am so sorry, Alpha. We didn't see her as we were racing around the corner. Charlie tried to get around me to beat me home and plowed right into her. As soon as I saw him hit her, I called you right away. None of us approached the car because we were all really close to shifting, and we didn't want to scare her anymore than she already was." I looked at Rory and Charlie for another second before I heard Leo screaming at me to get down to the car right now. Something was wrong. The look on Leo's face was that of fear and panic. I saw him pulling a small woman out of the front seat of the crumpled-up Nissan and saw him cradling her softly in his arms. Her pink hair was plastered to her face with all the blood that was flowing. There was a tree branch sticking out of her chest so close to where her heart was and seeing this my heart stopped. Rushing over to Leo, I gently took her from him and asked him to go and find her purse before the car that was on fire could take it from her. I rushed up the side of the ravine to the bed of the truck and gently laid her down on the blankets that we had thrown in there for her. Wiping her hair back and looking at her beautiful face, I started to hear my wolf whine. 'Asher, what's the matter buddy? What has your heart hurting buddy?' I asked him, feeling like I already knew the answer.
'Human, we need to change her now! I feel like she is meant to be one of us and I feel so protective of her that it hurts so much. Please save her!' After hearing him say that I knew exactly what he was saying because I could feel it too. This little woman was meant to be one of us. Yelling at Leo to take us to the closest hospital, I started working on her. I gently took the branch out of her chest and placed it next to us. When I pulled it out, she woke up screaming out in pain. I gently held her down and looked straight into her eyes.
"Little one, my name is Johnathan Crystal. You were in a very severe car accident and the only way I will be able to save you is if I turn you into one of us. I am a werewolf and would like your permission to turn you into one as well. I promise to take care of you and protect you no matter what. Do I have your permission, little one?" Her dark brown eyes looked straight into mine as if she was trying to tell if I was telling the truth. Seconds had passed before she nodded and spoke up to say, "I always knew that werewolves were real. I, Thalia Roberts, give you, Johnathan Crystal, permission to change me." After she said that, she passed out again and I got to work. I pulled her up to me where my mouth lined up with the closest vein that would take the venom straight to her heart and bit deeply. As I felt the venom start to flow into her, I mind linked Leo to stop on the side of the road and come to the back with me. Quickly, he found an abandoned road and pulled off to the side. Rushing back to the bed of the truck, he softly jumped into the bed of the truck. He looked at her and in his eyes I saw the sorrow of a brother that wanted to protect his sister. Softly, I called out to him and told him to be prepared because the venom was about to spread quickly throughout her body and I needed him to hold her feet and legs. Nodding, he gently but firmly held her legs flat onto the bed of the truck. I had turned myself so that she could rest her head and back up against me and I held her there. Sure enough, not even 2 seconds after we had gotten settled she started to convulse as the venom spread. Asher was looking out of my eyes by this point, whining that his new pup was hurting. I soothed him the best I could, knowing that this was hard for him. Looking at Leo, I saw that his wolf Cinder was looking at his new sister too.
I looked up at the sky and prayed to the Moon Goddess, asking her to let this torture end soon. Suddenly, Asher started purring in my head, 'Human smell her. She will be fine. She is changed, and she has you and our mate's scents on her. She was meant to be our child'. I kissed the top of her head and sniffed like he told me. Sure enough, she smelt like my mate did with the smell of freshly printed books. Leo sniffed as well and then looked at me teary-eyed.
"Dad, I looked at her ID when I pulled her purse out of the car. She is only 29 years old. I finally have a little sister." he said as he gently took her from me and hugged her close to him. As I watch my 2 children sitting there, I can only pray that she will come to know that me and all that is mine will stop at nothing to protect her.
"Come on my children. Let's get her to the hospital in the pack so we can make sure she is all good. Remember, son, she was human, so we have to help her settle her affairs with the other humans before she can come live with us." Nodding, Leo stood up with his new sister in his arms and climbed out of the bed of the truck and into the passenger seat. I got into the driver's seat and took off to the pack hospital so that my mate could meet our new daughter and make sure that she would be well enough before the next full moon.
