An Entrance

Liam The entire weekend had passed with no news of Kirra or her mate. He had tried reaching out to mind link Kirra, but she had blocked him. Standing in front of the mirror he ran a finger on it. It turned metallic and he waited for the hum and the golden glow. Nothing happened. With his mind on Ira he could focus on nothing else. A few more days of no sleep and he would flip. He walked around the library. He had broken the desk in anger. No one dared to meet him when he was behaving like a feral maniac. Monike had tried getting into his chambers, but seeing his anger, she had backed off too. He was waiting for Ben, who had taken over the working of the pack. Good thing he was such a balanced person! Ben was out representing Liam in the meeting with the alliance, and he waited. ‘Stupid wolf! Because of you, I haven’t gone to the meeting. This waiting is killing me!’ ‘And waiting for our mate is killing me. Didn’t James say that you need to be here?’ His wolf whined. He ran his hand through his hair in frustration, pulling out a few strands with his brute strength. ‘At this pace, you will soon be bald!’ Hs wolf sneered. ‘Shut the f*ck up!’ He continued to pace. If he knew Ira was anywhere in this world, he would have gone looking for her. He would have abducted her or cried and grovelled. Whatever worked, he would have gotten his girl back. But… The knocks at his door pulled him out of the reverie and he snarled. He was in no mood for niceties with anyone. With his lips retracted and canines out in offence, he opened the door and found Ben smiling at him with his hands up. Liam blinked a few times. The sunlight felt unnatural as it pricked his eyes, which had been devoid of any external light for some time now. “You did it, boss! Alliance has agreed. Can I come in?” Liam stepped aside and Ben entered… “F*ck! This room stinks! And you!” Ben sniffed and gagged. He wrinkled his nose and looked around the destroyed living room. It had shards of broken furniture and broken bottles of alcohol lying around. He shook his head. “Kirra and James would be here any minute. James is going to recoil at the state of Ira’s mate.” “F*ck off!” Liam scowled. “No, I won’t. I have good news, and you need to be presentable for our visitors. You won’t want to meet Ira like his, so why meet her family when you are stinking? If she doesn’t hate you yet, she will when she sees what a savage creature you have become. Now go, tidy up and I will take care of the living room.” “I don’t want anyone in the library!” Liam shot back as he headed off to shower and groom himself while Ben summoned the omegas. He knew arguing with his beta was not going to help. He felt better after a cool shower and some food in his system that Ben had asked the omegas to get. Ben had emptied the entire room of the broken furniture and got the floor cleaned up. It even smelled better. As Liam sat at the bar stool, the only undamaged furniture in the room and chomped on his sandwich, Ben sat next to him and filled him up with every detail from the meeting. "The wolf moon clan wasn't supportive, which was a given. They weren’t happy that Kirra hadn’t easily conceded to Alpha Joshua's arm twisting. He had wanted stakes in The Blood Moon pack’s uranium mining in exchange for helping Kirra in the Battle of Myponga. The smart girl had stood strong, saying she would think about it. He wasn't happy that Kirra had won without his help. The Red Moon clan from Tasmania hadn’t attended the meeting. They wouldn’t until Waru got punished for his crime against the werewolves and the witches." Ben had a sip of his beer as he continued. "The Death Moon had been a close alliance of Kirra’s pack, so they agreed instantly and Alpha Leo had sided with us. Scott from Blue Moon supported us on the condition that he wants regular training programs with the Rogues for his Moondyne Squad. It was his pet project where he was training a group of wolves from each clan of the alliance in guerilla tactics." Ben waited for the information to sink in. Liam listened with rapt attention as Ben filled him in. "The Pink Moon was skeptical. But Kirra gave them convincing evidence that Ira is a witch, and she was your mate. They agreed easily after that. They worship their ancient Luna Pink who was a witch who saved their civilisation.” Ben was smiling, looking at Liam. “Ira? A Witch? Everyone knows? She is my mate?” Liam blinked, trying to get his head around all the new information. It was too much. He did not want anyone to know. He had been lucky that no one had realised it during the battle. Although he had been loud enough for his people to hear. There was so much commotion that people had just assumed it to be Liam’s reaction to taking the dragon riding human as a prisoner. Most rogues aren't very bright and smart. That day, he was out with some of the dumbest ones who were fighting with him. It had been their punishment. It had been Miriam’s idea of community service for the not so smart ones. Thinking back, it was her style to let the lower beings die for her. “Hello... Hello... Earth to boss! Earth to bos!! Are you still here?” Ben tapped the bar counter. “Sorry I zoned out!” Liam responded wondering what powers Ira had. A starling loud cr*ck just outside the door stunned them. An unknown scent wafted in and Ben turned quickly in his fighter stance, ready to attack. No one could enter their land without their patrolling squad alerting them. The suspicious breach of their borders had kept the Gammas and Ben on their guard. Liam also looked at the door in confusion. Before anyone could knock or Liam could unlatch the door, it flew wide open. In strode an old woman through a mist of white fumes. Her wrinkled brown skin showed her ancientness as if she had seen centuries' worth of life. She wore an elegant brown cloak which must have gone out of fashion decades ago. Her unkempt curly hair danced around wildly and her soft brown eyes twinkled with mischief. She walked, supporting her weight on a short wooden staff, which tapped rhythmically against the stone floor as she trudged in. Ben growled, ready to let his wolf free, and Liam stood up, staring at the uncanny old woman. “Lighten up me hearties! An old woman can’t bring the house down.” She chuckled. *****
