Ira
She had no idea how long she slept for. The last few days had passed in a tizzy with not enough rest or sleep.
With the news of Jack and Alex being free her nightmares had increased affecting the quality of rest that she could get.
She wasn’t as strong as the werewolves who could manage even in a sleep deprived stage.
So once she settled down on the cosy leather couch, she was off. The mild scent of sage emanating from the couch was so peaceful that she did not have a single dream.
Somewhere in the middle of her sleep, she felt as if she was being watched.
Her throbbing heart, beating against her chest set butterflies fluttering in her tummy. She woke up but did not dare to open her eyes.
She knew who was watching. She could feel his overpowering presence close to her. Opening her eyes and facing the man of her wet dreams seemed very daunting so she prayed that he gave her enough privacy for her to scoot from there.
The last time they were alone in the trench she had been unable to control her body!
Her prayers were answered soon enough and she heard the door closing.
Slowly she opened her eyes to look at the door which connected the library to Liam’s bedroom.
She gently lifted the big first volume of History of Werewolf Clans of Australia, closed it and adjusted it on the stack of books that she had made on the mahogany office table.
She would need to read through these books quickly.
The history of werewolf clans was dated back to five thousand years. Whoever had compiled that had been thorough in detailing out the travel methods that were used by the clans in the olden days.
Once this volume was over there were 2 more volumes. One of them mentioned the family trees of these different clans and the third one was more modern, noting down the various businesses of the members of the clan.
She wondered how Liam had laid his hands on these collectables. There were only seven copies of the books published by a witch and each clan had a copy in their library.
She had seen it in Kirra’s. That’s where she had quickly browsed through Kirra’s clan and her close allies to get an idea of Kirra’s ancestry.
So if Liam had one set here, she needed to know which clan was missing its set of this historically relevant book.
Could that be a key to Liam’s biological parents? She felt excited about solving the mystery so soon.
Should I just continue reading? Maybe take the book to my room! Or maybe not tonight. I will take a couple of books tomorrow. Still thinking, she turned around to get to her room. The door to her room was artistically hidden behind the books. She would never have known about the door if she hadn’t accessed the library from her room.
No wonder she missed it the last time!
Was magic involved in this concealment? Did James do this trick of connecting the interiors? Or are there more such doors?
She wondered. She had to be out of this place asap but her curiosity won over and she started checking every bookcase to see if it opened into another room or another library.
The door to the bathroom and Liam’s bedrooms were proper doors. Between the door to Liam's bedroom and the bookcase that opened into her own bedroom, she felt the case give way a little.
Slowly she pulled the case inwards and saw a beautiful warmly lit room with a pillar in the middle surrounded by leather couches similar to the couch she had been napping on.
A slight knock on a wooden door as the guest’s metallic ring banged against it rung through the room.
Liam’s tall frame walked towards the opposite end of the room. He had gotten rid of his jacket and loosened his shirt.
It made him look sexier as his hard muscles underneath the layer of the shirt left little to imagination.
So this must be the living room that I haven’t seen! Ira thought glancing around the warm room. From her angle she could see a part of a well equipped bar.
She turned to silently close the door and escape into her room but saw Monike waltz into the living room and Ira froze in her spot. Although the scene was painful, her legs felt heavy and stayed glued to the place.
From her spot, she could see the room but was absolutely sure that she was not visible. Monike looked beautiful in a black satin gown and her stupid high heels.
Ira still wasn’t sure how the woman could strut in such heels on such a terrain. Obviously, the princess did not head out in the forest often. She was a human princess so must be well taken care of by her maids or omegas or whoever served her.
Monike ran her finger against Liam’s chest through the partially open shirt. A weird pain shot through her heart as if it didn't have enough space in her chest. Just behind her forehead, she felt as if someone was pounding with a hammer, trying to drive a nail in.
She wanted to be angry but instead, an irrational desolation took over. No matter how much she was attracted to Liam, he will always be Monike’s man.
The last nail in the coffin was when Monike suggestively purred about waiting for him in her bedroom with a pair of f**k*ng handcuffs.
What kind of k*nky stuff were they involved in? All thoughts were useless. She had to keep herself and her heart safe. No use lusting after the man that you couldn’t have. Moon God had played a cruel joke on her by choosing Liam as her soulmate.
She closed the door and walked towards her own room, unceremoniously shutting the door to the library.
She plopped on the bed face down, exhaling deeply and controlling the tears that were building up. She talked herself into shutting Liam’s thoughts out.
After a few minutes of agony, she got up and put a kettle to boil. She was not going to allow someone else's decisions to make her unhappy.
She had committed to his foolish project and would complete it as swiftly as possible without breaking her own heart.
A hollowness in her chest kept nagging her, even as she tried to concentrate on the freshly brewed tea in front of her.
She would survive!
The buzzing of her phone pulled her into the current reality. She disconnected it from the charging and happily attended the call from her best friend.
Guess what?
What?
Come to my chambers darl. I have news about my mate.
Really? Wow! Tell me how to get to your room.
Oops! I forgot! I haven’t given you that tour of this place yet. Are you up for it now? We haven’t had lunch! Let's talk over dinner.
Okay! See you in a bit.
She disconnected after agreeing to her friend. Looking forward to distracting herself with some G- Talk, she started getting ready for the evening.
